Club Bars - far superior to Penguins arent they?

A sharpe edged chocolate biscuit is always superior, see also; kit kat and leibnitz.

As a child I found a club (mint) that had a layer of chocolate MISSING from the bottom. I sent it back to tje company with a letter saying it didn't have a lot of chocolate on it as advertised! 😅
Sent me an apology and £20 of voucher/coupons which was LOADS in the early 80's - biscuits for years!

Last time I gave blood there was an option for Clubs. I asked for an orange one and the lovely volunteer told me that was a niche choice. I expressed outrage and he then brought me two orange Clubs. Result.

I've never really enjoyed penguin bars - thin chocolate (flavour) layer around a powdery biscuit, sandwiched with tasteless paste - although I will of course accept one in an emergency, but what has happened to my beloved Club biscuit? It's now 3 bites of shite too! The chocolate tastes synthetic, has a horrible mouth feel and the plastic wrapping just compounds the degradation. Might aswell just buy Rocky Road and be done of it. My erstwhile adored Club biscuit is now just a sweet memory. Thanks for the memories Club. It's better to have loved and lost and all that.

Penguins are okay but orange clubs are far superior imho …

Another one who can't stand a Penguin. They tasted artificial and nasty long before it was the norm for so many biscuits. And very stingey on the chocolate.

I was a bit confused by the shorthand of calling it a Club bar as her in Ireland it's a Club Milk. So I headed off down a rabbit hole and it appears yours are made by McVities and only have chocolate flavoured coating whereas ours are still made by Jacobs and have milk chocolate coating with 30% cocoa solids. Still not as nice as they used to be but definitely sound better than the UK ones.

The best thing about a club bar was that you could reassemble the silver paper once you had removed the biscuit. Then slide over the outer paper and offer it to your brother. “Do you want my club, I don’t fancy it”

I'm stumped by all the orange Club love, they were the worst flavour (same with artificial orange anything and particularly Revels). If I had to I'd do a raisin Club at a push, but I'd have to be desperate.

I remember Trios and the really catchy advert for them. Does anyone remember Sainsbury's breakaway? Basically a Sainsbury's own brand KitKat but a staple of mid 90s lunch boxes at my school.

Hmm, see I'm not sure this is a fair like for like comparison. A Club specifically has flavoured stuff in it. I'll give you that a Penguin says it has chocolate cream inside, but it says inside, not on top. Club is more like maybe Trio or Gold Bar, whereas a Penguin, I would compare more to the - superior in my opinion despite not being chocolate coated - Bourbon?

You're not wrong OP. Penguins always tasted "cheap" to me. Orange Clubs on the other hand are the business. Likewise Viscount biscuits but I haven't seen those for ages.

Yes, Club Milks are still in Ireland and they are yum! Just checked the ingredients and they’re almost 63% milk chocolate.
Way better than penguins. Can’t comment on McVities Club bars as I’ve never had them.

Viscounts were wrapped in silver paper. Silver. Literally the biscuit of royalty.

There were orange and green. You could scoop off the "cream" bit with your teeth before tucking into the tasty biscuit.
