Asylum seekers have to be accommodated somewhere. What's so special about Piddington that it shouldn't be that somewhere?

They don't 'have to be housed somewhere'. If they are genuinely seeking asylum they should keep their documents to hand, not throw them away as many do. We taxpayers have no obligation to house people who cannot prove their identity.

They're not "allowed to do what they like", they're subject to the same laws as anyone in the UK.

Voting for a political candidate does not mean every person in that constituency has signed a blank cheque agreeing with every future proposal affecting their village.
People are perfectly entitled to support immigration, welcome refugees, vote for a particular party and still ask questions about the scale and practical impact of a specific accommodation proposal on their own community.
And if the response to those questions is simply “you voted for them, now shut up and accept it”, that doesn’t exactly sound like a particularly open-minded debate, does it?
Apparently democracy is wonderful right up until the people affected by a decision have the audacity to question it.

Really 1200 unknown men moved just outside a village of 350 people that has no shops or drs surgeries with no pedestrians access to the site and free to roam around in gangs to harass women and girls as has been shown to happen where ever they put these men and you'd be happy with that for your family ? But they are not allowed to work while the agonisingly slow bureaucracy processes their claims - this is the problem. They are at a loose end. Lots of young active men herded together with nothing to do is not a good thing at all, for them or for the local community.

Maybe Piddington and the surrounding areas could look at what voluntary work might be needed and create a scheme to direct them towards that.

I live two doors away from an HMo owned by Clearsprimgs / Ready Homes. It houses male asylum seekers. There’s plenty of HMO’s in my town similar. I can tell you it’s currently not much fun although for many years it wasn’t a problem

I can assure anyone that these men are having the time of their lives. The house is a four floor Georgian listed property which is party central on our road. The party starts around midnight and finishes at 5am. Good news is they sleep in the day. A five bed house in my area sells for £450 and rent would be 2,000 minimum a month.
while our laws dictate we need to provide housing to those seeking asylum this is what we need to do no matter the inconvenience to our own lives. However we need to stop anymore.

The “vast majority” of them are really, really not genuine refugees. According to an article in the Times (Sept 6th this year), a whistleblower at the Home Office has said that “At best 1 per cent of asylum seekers are genuine. There’s almost no aspect of the asylum system that isn’t either a massive fraud or just really dysfunctional. Nothing works as it should.” He said “staff … feel unable to challenge even the most obviously false claims.” There are apparently “block applications” from Pakistanis purporting to be gay, for example. “ An undercover BBC investigation exposed a shadow industry of law firms and immigration advisers charging thousands of pounds to help asylum seekers lodge fake claims pretending to be gay.” There’s also the fact that it’s so much easier to process a successful claim than to reject someone. The whole system is rigged in the (economic) migrants’ favour, especially as most of them actually come on a student, visitor or work visa.

You know these men have often come from wartorn countries and faced the kind of oppression that people like us can only dream of right? I don't think anyone can blame them for letting their hair down and enjoying themselves for once in their darn lives, they aren't hurting anyone why can't you just live and let live?

What is your solution then? Where should these men be housed while waiting for decisions on their asylum applications, 70% of which will be approved?

@sesquipedalian quite. In reality, there are huge, set-for-life wins if a migrant can get here and get their claim through. What this leads to in effect is a Hunger-Games style pipeline where we get those most willing to flout the law.

I feel sorry for the women who did not vote for their Lib Dem MP, but the rest of them, no.

Like many middle class people, they voted to welcome these men into the U.K......but as long as they're dumped onto the working class. As long as they're put somewhere else where they won't affect their own house prices or pose a danger to themselves, it's fine.

I hope other neighbourhoods see this as a cautionary tale, but I suspect they won't as their ideology is stronger than sense.
