AIBU to oppose housing 1,000 undocumented young men near Piddington?

1000 replies

PiddingtonFan · 16/09/2026 09:38

We dont need anymore undocumented young males.

1000 proposed to be housed near Piddington. Young males from a different culture.

AIBU to agree with them. Enough undocumented males. Too many males overwhelming a small population. 😪

She's just like this and refuses to hear explanations

Who?

shecanbe · 17/09/2026 18:20

"I've been repeatedly cross questioned by some of you for adding my RELEVANT experience with one of them."

So you live in the Piddington village and have had a bad experience with one of the men given accommodation nearby? Is this what you're saying?

Boomer55 · 17/09/2026 16:03

If you live there, then you’re free to object. If you don’t, not your problem. 👍

I disagree. It's a country problem since our taxes pay for this. Some of us look further than our own backyard 🙄

No issues with them being near Piddington, but they should be kept in the camp whilst their applications are being processed. Yes, I realise that means they’re effectively prisoners, and they’d be barbed wire around the perimeter, but if they’re genuine refugees they should understand and be grateful we’re giving them safety and a roof over their heads whilst we process their claims.

By the way, I don’t vote Reform or Restore…

The USA has immigration detention centres.

Look at Australia’s referral system. If you can select vulnerable women in refugee camps or a proposer to take personal responsibility for an individual it’d be a form of entry that has higher safeguarding.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) identifies the most vulnerable people in global refugee camps—such as those in immediate physical danger or women at risk—and formally refers them to Australia for resettlement.1, 2]

The Proposer System (Subclass 202): Under the Global Special Humanitarian visa, an applicant must be proposed by an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or community organisation. The proposer acts as a character referee and takes responsibility for helping the person settle.

Can you say why you would be against this?

Is there a reason you can’t answer the question that was asked?

Well you don't have to like Delhi, but you must surely realise that Indian people are a very significant and highly integrated part of U.K society and this has been the case since the 1960s! Indian people in the U.K are hardly renowned for aggression or for being sexual predators are they? If anything, if you really had to stereotype Indian people in the U.K, you would no doubt say they are hardworking, value education, family-orientated, often highly professional, respectful, peaceful and generally a credit to the nation! And none of them need to come here on boats anyway, so I don't know why we're even talking about India.

Is there a reason you can’t read that response and understand what vetting means?

A woman from a refugee camp is less likely to rape someone, what do you think? Is that difficult to get still.

Now to you. Why are you against that system?

The USA has immigration detention centres.

I’d like to see polling on this. I think most people would be in favour.

They’d be treated humanely, and being in camps they’d have outside space to exercise, and thought should be given offered jobs on site to alleviate boredom (cleaning, cooking, basic maintenance etc)

Why don't people understand risk profile and that some nations have societies and men which abuse women are egregious rates?

shecanbe · 17/09/2026 18:40

You've really have a had a good dig haven't you, to have to drag up some dubious article from a minor Indian regional newspaper. That will be because there is no data to support that people if Indian origin are disproportionally represented in sexual violence in the UK. In fact, most estimates point to the opposite, as you will know if you looked at ONS estimates - and it will only be estimates because this data is not even recorded.

shecanbe · 17/09/2026 18:42

And to reiterate -people from India do not need to come here illegally on boats!

They understand - they just pretend not to. It's a game to some bored people.

shecanbe · 17/09/2026 19:03

No it's not a game at all. It's that most people understand that things are a lot more complex and nuanced than predictable Reform propaganda that just operates through fear-mongering, selective and polarising information dissemination and cheap slogans.

But this is the equivalent of cheap slogans. People are able to discuss this outside what you’ve put here.

They are using data taken by the CMC which is directly from the Ministry of Justice. This has also been reported on other Indian news sites.

This isn't ethnicity (which isn't always recorded) but nationality.

Why do you say it's all fake? Would an Indian newspaper make up that Indian nationals are commit crimes at higher elevated rates?

shecanbe · 17/09/2026 19:29

Papers say all kinds of things. God only knows.

I would ask you this, do you honestly think that people of Indian origin in the U.K., many of whom have been here for generations and are extremely successful in all walks if our society, are more likely to perpetrate sexual crimes than the average population. Do you really believe this?

So you're just ignoring the data when it goes against your narrative then. Stick fingers in ears.

shecanbe · 17/09/2026 19:44

Undocumented migrants are not Indian. Indian people have been intrinsic to British life since the 1960s - part of my husband's family came here then. The people arriving in boats nowadays are mainly Eritrean, Somali, Afghan or Iranian. All very different countries with very different issues that people are fleeing from, or being trafficked from.

shecanbe · 17/09/2026 19:50

When Farage goes on about a surge in Eritreans coming in with radicalised Islamic views, does he realise that over half of the population of Eritrea are in fact Christian?

NoBoxesPlease · 17/09/2026 19:51

It's too many men for the size of the parish.

I think large groups of men, even "nice" men, are a bad idea. I mean, ever seen a bunch of "nice" men on a football day? They can be bloody intimating when they turn into a mob.

Can't they be spread over more locations? I'm not saying I'd be delighted to have them where I am, but it would make more sense if the bigger cities took more.

Plus, if you spread them around more places, surely they have more of a chance of integrating?

shecanbe · 17/09/2026 20:03

I do agree it's a stupid idea to put them on the edge of a tiny village, when they could just house them in a city or larger town and nobody would notice or care. No drama needed.

The point is, if an asylum seeker attacks a woman, it's national headlines. As it should be obviously - don't get me wrong. However, if a British (particularly white British) man is the perpetrator, it probably won't even make local news, let alone national. No marches. Farage and TR silent. They ONLY pipe up about the incidents that serve their agenda.

A couple of years ago a 16 year-old asylum seeker was stabbed to death outside a college near to me. It didn't even make local news. Nothing.

I'm not sure I believe that. There were numerous articles in the national press when a 16-year-old Syrian refugee was stabbed to death in West Yorkshire, similarly when an 18-year-old Afghan refugee and college student was stabbed to death on playing fields in south-west London for example.

shecanbe · 17/09/2026 20:10

@Clavinova. It is 100% true. It happened at Richmond-Upon-Thames College a few years ago. I know this for a fact as my niece was at the college that very day. All parents of students were obviously informed. The murder was in broad daylight, just outside the doorway of the college, and witnessed by school pupils and their teachers playing football on the field. They saw the poor Afghan boy, who was 16 or 17 and trying to get his GCSE Msths and English, surrounded by 3 other boys and fall to the ground. When they got him to hospital it was too late. Nothing in the local press. Nothing in national news. Absolutely horrific and shocking. The boy was in his own here. Had nobody to fight his cause.
