Hmm. I think she was brave/crazy to continue. But, and it is a big but, how did this adversely affect her competitors? Were they inconvenienced by the 'product' e.g. smell, appearance etc.? Could the equipment, including the ground, be contaminated? Could they have been put at risk by infection? If the answer is yes to any of these, then no, she shouldn't have been allowed to continue.

No decent Human Being, who is in full control of their faculties, should think that spreading their shit everywhere, for others to walk / sit in, and for others to clean up, is in anyway ok.

If someone thinks shitting themselves mid-competition and not calling a halt (because 'accidents' do happen) and instead, decides that going for glory is more important, they may not be the "dedicated athlete at the top of their game", they think they are, but more "selfish and unhygienic bastard that does not mind putting the health of their fellow competitors at risk".

If this is the hard-end of the culture of Hyrox, then those people, including the organisers have taken a sharp deviation from normality.

Crossfit and Hyrox does attract the loons though - all the moves, done badly and with none of the safety. Just another fad sport, encouraged by social media

in my world, if you shit yourself in the middle of an intense sporting event, you stop and go get cleaned up to the point you won't spread ecoli around the place.. which usually means getting a thorough hot shower with soap

or you can boast about it and say "by whatever means necessary" and get suitably flamed

I was really pointing out the difference between the act of shitting yourself - ok fine whatever, and shitting yourself and spreading it in shared spaces and in equipment used by others. - not fine. A lot of posters are focused on it being an accident, and are completely missing the fact that what happened next was quite deliberate. A choice.

If you're exercising so hard that you shit yourself, then you're exercising too hard. Human bodies weren't made for such intense exercise. We were made to roam over long distances to hunt and gather. Roam, not run as fast as possible. That's why top athletes have such trouble with their bodies for the rest of their lives. There was a marathon runner on my office, and even though he had the body type for it - very tall and thin - he still needed a hip replacement at 40.
