I know this does happen to serous runners, my sister's friend has it happen a lot, even if she takes immodium
So this lady had an accident, but there should be some way of clearing it for other contenders, maybe a shit area that's separate from other equipment?

A toilet?

qamvbm · 15/09/2026 12:47

Well, I do think it’s gross, but can’t get too upset about it until we clean up our public spaces. Dog shit on pavements and in parks. Worse than human shit.

Hiredgun · 15/09/2026 12:48

‘Just poo it’ is her motto apparently but she’s not sponsored by Nike.

I think it was right to let her finish the competition but going forward a rule should be put in place for health and safety.

Going forward there is going to be a change. It was already announced. How they didn’t have a rule for this when every major event does baffles me but whatever. Cross country skiing is worse!

LaLoba · 15/09/2026 12:56

As a runner I’m bemused by the impression I’m getting that people think this is commonplace. I’ve taken part in countless races and never once seen someone shit themselves. I’ve cycled with people who’ve gone so hard they have ‘bonked’ and still not seen anyone shit themselves.

Whenever a fellow runner has told me they’ve had a bad gut, energy gels or supplements have been involved, but they’ve still managed to avoid running with shit pouring down their legs.

Frankly, the woman in the Hyrox incident looks mentally unstable to continue.

LeaderBee · 15/09/2026 12:57

Pretty sure this happens all the time. Paula Radcliffe was shitting herself too when she was in her prime.

Doesn't mean that it isn't gross or anything or that they shouldn't be penalised for shitting all over equipment, but it's nothing new in professional running.

BrezhnevsLuxuriantEyebrows · 15/09/2026 12:57

I never did quite get to the bottom (arf!) of it about Paula Radcliffe. I recall people at the time saying that she'd curled one out, and then Paula herself said that it had only been a wee... so is it the case that people deliberately embellished what actually happened for dramatic effect; or was Paula maybe telling a little porkie to try to mitigate her embarrassment?!

Gary Lineker definitely did a full-on jobbie whilst he was on the pitch, though!

What does bonked mean in this context?

BrezhnevsLuxuriantEyebrows · 15/09/2026 12:59

Watchoutfortheslowaraf · 15/09/2026 12:40

Hyrox is nothing like a marathon. All the equipment is shared. She was lying on the floor doing burpees and someone else a few metres back was having to follow her in the same lane to do their burpees. When her shit was all over the floor! And she got it all over the equipment other people use. She should have pulled out and if not, the race organisers absolutely should have pulled her. She probably won because the other competitors were struggling to compete in and around all her excrement.

Edited

Burpees are one thing; but when it comes to trumpees - that turn out to be slightly more significant (and liqueous), that's quite a different matter...

What does bonked mean in this context?

Going so hard that you hit total exhaustion, confusion, nausea etc.

Flamingbanana214 · 15/09/2026 13:01

Vile. I can't comprehend the other competitors voluntarily crawling through her shit behind her or sitting on her equipment. There's no way on earth I would have continued. She's disgusting obviously but what possessed the others to carry on covered in her shit. The mind boggles.

Highlighta · 15/09/2026 13:02

So bloody gross.

And other people had to clean up after her, and they even had to replace the carpet.

They made a statement to say they will change the rules for the future. A bit late for all the other competitors who got covered in her shit too.

BrezhnevsLuxuriantEyebrows · 15/09/2026 13:03

Is it all high-pressure competitive tournaments where this happens, or just the physically-demanding ones?

I'd hate to think of somebody participating in an intense Mastermind final, rising triumphant from the iconic black chair and leaving a 'disaster sausage' sitting there in their wake.

It was a world championship, imagine how hard they’d worked to get there 😞

HollyhocksandPeons · 15/09/2026 13:06

Altogether now - all cultures are the same, all cultures are equal. All cultures.... Yes, I am taking a pop at Australians. So what?

User7989776 · 15/09/2026 13:09

Agree. Extreme athletes are often mentally unwell, attention seeking individuals using athletic ability as a shield. There's also an underlying theme of self-harm and body fetish kinks.

A surgeon operating for 10 hours is infinitely more admirable and valuable for humanity than some woman who shits herself rolling a big ball. A surgeon will also take bathroom breaks and not claim their work is more important than everything else at that moment.

There is zero excuse for being a disgusting human being

Very much agree with this- I think it also speaks to the cult like mentality of exercise systems like hyrox that it attracts these unhealthy vulnerable people

Pinkgin00 · 15/09/2026 13:14

Yeah it's disgusting and selfish, I cannot believe that she was allowed to use shared equipment and not person intervened. It is no wonder she won!

Cavalierchaos · 15/09/2026 13:20

Anyone who thinks this is ok is utterly deranged. The other people had to work out in her poo. I can't actually understand why the other competitors didn't quit in protest. Utterly vile and degrading. The pictures I saw had it all down her legs. Can you imagine the smell.

rwalker · 15/09/2026 13:24

The fact she shit herself in sport is nether here or there
the problem is her smearing shit on communal equipment she should of been stopped

BloodyHellBob · 15/09/2026 13:35

Anyone saying that it’s ok obviously hasn’t seen some of the photos posted online. She literally has shit all down her legs. It’s obscene. She obviously doesn’t care (which is so very odd anyway) but as soon as it happened officials should have stepped in and removed her. I don’t care how much hard work she put in, other competitors did too and their event was spoiled. I honestly think she should be banned from further competitions.

This. It’s not the shitting herself. People shit themselves all over the world every day and it’s not a symptom of moral decline we need to clutch our pearls over. It’s the impact on others. I blame the organisers, in a way. But then perhaps they naively assumed they didn’t need a ‘no smearing shit on the equipment’ clause in the rules, I dunno. I do hope everyone would be equally appalled if she’d been a man, though. There is something about being reminded that women have bodily functions that seems to lead to baffling vitriol in some folk.

You think it was right that she shat herself, shit went all over the equipment (including the rowing machine that other contenders were using) and she was allowed to continue without cleaning herself up? It wouldn’t have impacted her time as she had an ankle timer.

theres a rule that snotting and spitting everywhere will disqualify people, but shitting everywhere is ok?

People can’t control shitting themselves can they. It’s a completely different comparison to spitting
