AIBU to think of course all the anti-trans posts on this website and others are leading to real life harm?

Just seen a video of a trans woman minding her business in a train station getting horribly bullied by some Tommy Robinson wanna-be and couldn't help but think back to all the aggressive threads I've seen on Mumsnet.

Pages and pages of vilifying innocent trans people, calling them perverts and all sorts with zero evidence of anything of the sort of course would lead to people like this harassing and attacking trans people in public. I've see a few of so-called GC brigade say 'this isn't what we wanted' but it is the end, isn't it? If you do see trans people as disgusting abusive perverts trying to sneak into your changing rooms and hurt your daughter, you'd want them to be bashed in public yeah?

Am I wrong to think their chickens are coming home to roost and certain posters will want to claim they never had a hand in it all?

I can believe it's wrong for trans women to be harassed or victimised in public, whole also believing that single sex spaces need to be enforced in order to uphold women's safety, dignity, and privacy. I don't see any contradiction between those beliefs.

Exactly. OP seems pretty confused.

But how would you know that person was a man? Plenty of biological women wear wigs, or are tall, or have big hands, or have some facial hair, or a deep voice, or aren’t pretty, or wear clothes that don’t suit them. You can’t tell by looking at a person. Transphobia means that all women get judged on what we look like and suspected of being secret males if we don’t conform to beauty standards.

Are you having a laugh! I can (and have) spotted a man dressed as a woman, in my peripheral vision, in a millisecond. You can ALWAYS tell.

backformoreofthesame · 14/09/2026 19:23

It’s interesting to think that perhaps men should be more accepting of gender none conforming rather than expecting that women make space for them - it suggests to me that it’s men in particular who are transphobic and that would be consistent with the violence ?

ZombieZebra · 14/09/2026 19:23

YABU. I don’t like being told I have to love all trans people. I don’t. I think they’re mentally ill, and I won’t enter into their delusional fantasies.

Transwomen are not women.

ArabellaScott · 14/09/2026 19:26

Oh, sorry, YABU, OP. Very.

Women are advocating for women's rights.

We won't stop, even if some men really really want to access women's spaces.

maxslice · 14/09/2026 19:28

TheKeatingFive · 14/09/2026 19:20

Why should anyone adopt an ‘accepting attitude’ to men in women’s spaces? Humans cannot change sex, so why do these men think they should have access to spaces that don’t belong to them?

Accepting that men can be gender non confirming on the other hand, who on here doesn’t accept that?

I didn’t say anyone SHOULD be accepting, I simply noted that many are not and they have their reasons for that.

I think even the use of the word ‘accepting’ with regards to women is indicative of your true feelings though. Why not start from the position of these men accepting that they can’t change sex and they should leave women’s things alone?

What exactly do you think should be ‘accepted’ and why?

Please point out which poster on this thread has advocated harassing anyone.

I think it was directed at my post - OP quoted me
I refute the suggestion/implication that I'd harrass anyone.
Seemed like an attack- as said so often before, where do the spite/vitriol and downright inaccuracies come from err...... which direction?
I'm thinking this was another 'plop and run' post

Teenager perhaps?

UniquePinkSwan · 14/09/2026 18:57

It really doesn’t come across like that tbf

Come on then @UniquePinkSwan give us ONE post on here that’s ‘transphobic’ and not about women asserting their single sex spaces.

Helleofabore · 14/09/2026 19:59

Millytante · 14/09/2026 19:46

Teenager perhaps?

I reckon it is just the usual person seeking to shame women who reject that male people over about 8 years old should not be included in any female single sex provision.

The points raised are the usual weak arsed ones, nothing new to see from them. However, there are some great posts rejecting the guilt the OP wants to falsely push onto women and girls.

EvelynBeatrice · 14/09/2026 20:05

helpfulucy · 14/09/2026 15:55

Exibit A for those doubting this is how you come across.

'a lot of chaps are well aware that public cross-dressers are compulsively displaying a fetish. Not everyone is prepared to accept that.'

Zero evidence of anything of the sort and implying being 'not prepared to accept it' is an excuse for public harassment.

Grayson Perry - amongst other men (and several academic studies) have said repeatedly and unashamedly that there is a sexual element to male cross dressing.

Of course, cross dressers may not be trans (although Scottish legislation brings them under the same protective umbrella for legal hate crime purposes) but it is inaccurate to say that there is never a kink or sexual purpose at play.

Regardless, however someone dresses doesn’t justify violence. But some males are violent or harassing anyway. Hard to tell which males - which is exactly why women are safer in single sex environments.

YANBU. Mumsnet has been infiltrated by right wing “feminists” and it’s pretty sickening. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t this way 10 years ago.

although it is often the same usernames popping up. So I’m hoping it’s just a vocal minority of daily mail reading keyboard warriors.

DarkForces · 14/09/2026 20:20

helpfulucy · 14/09/2026 17:19

Do you think harassing people based on what the clothes they wear is rational behavior? Especially if you would only apply that standard to one group and not all adults?

Men in dresses are still men. Wear what you want but you can't change sex.

MaybeSheBoughtIt · 14/09/2026 20:21

So let me get this straight, we’re supposed to accept men as women or we’re basically violent racist thugs?

Okey doke.

New wave of misogyny has really done a number on women.

Can you quantify what is ‘right wing’ and by your scare quotes, not feminist, about advocating for women’s rights?

Do you think we should just let men appropriate our words and spaces? Why would we do that?

Focusing on helping women? Yes, what a good idea!

Let's start with the women who've been raped and assaulted as this country experimented with letting men identify into their spaces - let's think in particular of White's victim, multiply raped on a women's mental health ward, left so badly injured she may never have children.

And there's the women who have been excluded from resources like rape crisis - the woman who has been legally fighting for five years so far for support where she does not have to have a man in the room listening appreciatively to her fears and descriptions of sexual violence. Or the women turned away from rape crisis services because they could not submit to putting men's interests above their own trauma and barriers, (despite one of those men being the leader of the service provision for assaulted women in his identity as a woman), and those men and their supporters actually did not signpost the women to the service that COULD provide them with an accessible same sex service. Because they politically disagreed. They preferred a woman to be left with her trauma to sink or swim alone than to help her find help that didn't put men first.

And the girls who have had to undress and shower with boys because of adults' political passions, learning their boundaries and consent is conditional on whether or not the boy 'feels sad' about it because he matters and they don't. His privacy and dignity and feelings and inclusion matters, but they are just resources who are scolded into submission if they try to defend themselves.

And how about the women now afraid to use public toilets or changing rooms because they have needs and access barriers that mean mixed sex spaces are inaccessible, and a man walking in means they have to walk out. The cosmetic changes and inner feelings of said man are not relevant to their needs. What about those women?

I could go on. Do you not think those women are part of what women should be caring about and ensuring equality and provision for?

I seriously doubt women defending those women - and their own legal protections and those of their sisters and daughters and mothers - are responsible for what an unpleasant man says to another man. Or that those women have a duty to sacrifice in order to avoid accidentally encouraging an unpleasant man to be more unpleasant.

I don’t mean to be picky but the use of ‘she’ about a ‘transwoman’ is incompatible grammatically. By definition ‘transwomen’ are male so we use ‘he’.

No one should be bullied though - unless he was being called out for using spaces he shouldn’t.

Also you don’t accept men as women and want women’s legal rights to their own spaces upheld, you’re a far right bigot.

Got it?

EmailsaysOOO · 14/09/2026 20:39

Yes, quite likely. I stay away from any of the feminist section stuff because I don't like to see the way posters there despise trans women.

Yep. And never, on a women's website set up by a woman for women, point out that trans women are male.

Christ mumsnet I thought you'd got over that.
