Why hasn’t Michael Jackson been cancelled??

I’ve been out at a 80s day disco today… loads of fun. But it struck me that people were still delighted by MJ… why? He was a wrong ‘un of the very worst kind. How come he hasn’t been cancelled?!

He wasn't guilty of anything, hes just seen as a rather messed up individual who was treated atrociously by his own father and the industry

Wasn’t Wade Robson still wanting to work for the Jackson estate many years after the alleged abuse?

People who say things like this haven’t bothered to understand the effects that grooming can have. I suggest you educate yourself.

Cancelled 🙄

Oh and they were credible too weren't they? That interview was embarrassing. The fake tears. Please 🤦🙄
They tried to sell fake recordings of Michael didn't they? And wrote a book saying how wonderful he was, then once again, big fat paycheck and they changed their story 🤦🙄

Repulsive.

I find it particularly sinister that he appeals to children so much. He’s literally the childcatcher.

It’s the only music I’ve only banned my kids from listening to.

It’s also made for awkward questions. My kids are aware that some people think he is bad, but don’t know why and have asked me why. I don’t really want to explain paedophilia to the youngest.

Kulwinder54 · 13/09/2026 08:20

And re his surgeries and surrogate children, look at the hollywood celebrities of today!

The standard of proof to even reach a criminal trial is very high, especially for SA cases.

Being found not guilty does not make you innocent.

You think that all these men who just happened to be the same age when they say MJ abused them and who all were very good looking were just trying to get money?

Think about this - it is humiliating for men to admit they were sexually abused by other men.

Jordan Chandlers life has been very difficult - he was unable to finish school because of other kids calling him ‘gay’ and a crazed fan tried to run him over whilst he was rollerblading.

Being an accuser is a difficult space to be in.

MyThreeWords · 13/09/2026 08:24

He was massively cancelled!! Cancelled doesn't mean you get totally erased from public consciousness - like in Orwell's 1984. It just means that people say bad stuff about you and you don't get the contracts you used to have.

He's been dead a long time, so it is easy, now, for 'Jackson the product' to get back to entertaining some people and making cash for others without facing much drag from our disapproval of Jackson the man.

In any case, 'cancellation' is pretty ephemeral. I wonder if the people who are surprised at his phenomenon still being marketable are quite young, and therefore still see very rapid waves of public sentiment as if they were static.

Also, 'cancellation' works best when the target isn't someone who is so damaged he is incapable of feeling its sting or even understanding that he has done wrong.

Basically, many people think there isn't much point about performing their disapproval of child abuse by not listening to his songs when (a) he is nearly 20 years dead and (b) he was only ever barely functioning as a human being even when alive.

HairyToity · 13/09/2026 08:24

I thought MJ was guilty, and when the kids asked to see the movie - refused. I think there is too much money in his back catalog for the top dogs to allow him to be cancelled. It's carefully orchestrated PR.

And I suggest that you should wake up and do some research about him and Safechuck.

The "victims" would have been a lot more believable if they told the truth in the first place (Robson and Safechuck),and didn't go out for a huge paycheck. Once money is involved,I'm sorry but nope, you lose all credibility in your case.

Why? Why do they lose credibility? They weren’t bunged 50k were they? These were huge life changing amounts. In a country where people die bevause they can’t afford health care or are bankrupted by their health care bills. Where university education is crippling my expensive. The sums were so huge they changed the lives of victims ( enough to pay for a lifetime of therapy) and their families.

MJ knew exactly what he was doing to offer such coercively large sums of money, and he knew it would provide the thread his fanatical fans would cling to, to overlook him having more boys slept in his bed.

You can seperate the art from the artist.Michael Jackson had genuine talent, whereas Gary glitter would have been a has-been by now regardless.

Added to which, MJ was A, found not guilty, and B, one of his alleged victims admitted to having lied.

It’s a disturbed society where people can just decide you’re guilty even if you’ve been proven not to be. Where does that end?

I really can't separate them! He is his music and his music is him. People said that about RKellys music
I fully accept that he wasn't found guilty and that is where some people stand, but I dont believe that, (just because you're found innocent doesn't necessarily mean you were - there has been criminal cases where yrs later people were found to be guilty and vice versa)
OP im with you. I dont listen to him, I'll change radio station if he comes on and dont understand why, morally, he is still played.

TheLurpackYears · 13/09/2026 08:27

When I ask my kids about this, and also other mums, the consensus is that MJ was a vulnerable adult and an abused child himself and not responsible for his actions, he is a figure of pity.
DDs school played MJ and Rolf Hassis songs t sports day this year.

Maybe Beethoven was a dick. Maybe Verdi was a wife-beater. It doesn't change the fact that their contribution to music have been massive.
The world wouldn't be a better place if no one ever felt the joy of listening to it ever again.

Paul Gauguin married a 14 year old when he was living in Tahiti. His paintings are still on display in galleries all over the world.

I don’t hear the Glitter band’s music being played any more which is a shame as they were far more talented than Glitter himself ever was.

Wow you're naive.

Can you explain why Jackson was in possession of child pornography, if he's so innocent?

Nobody should be cancelled, it’s so puerile and performative. Plus, he wasn’t convicted of anything. We can’t go vigilante on everyone who has rumours spread about them, that way lies madness.

Ok let’s try that on Saville!

He was amazing at what he did. He shaped popular culture. He raised millions for charity. He was never convicted of anything. Why can’t bbc show reruns of his top of the pop episodes and Jim will fix”.

Does not quite work does it

I find that kind of excuse so offensive. Most children who grow up in abusive situations don't go on to rape children.

Scott Mills wasn't found guilty of anything either but he's been cancelled.

The bbc cancelled scott mills, the BBC are trash. They can't cancel my memories of how much he made me laugh as a radio DJ throughout my life.

Ethelspagetti · 13/09/2026 08:35

It’s because he was never convicted of anything and the original boy whose parents made allegations, already admitted that nothing happened. His parents wanted money, which they got. Another person who grew up as a child visiting his home, already came forward and said he wasn’t like that with him or the kids at his home. He genuinely wanted to behave like a kid and have fun. Yes it was strange of him to invite boys over to play but no one has actually said that he abused them and it should be much easier to do now he’s dead.

When you looK at the back stories of nearly all abusers, murderers and serious criminals they have tragic childhoods and histories. They are still normally vilified. I was recently at an exhibition of some the UKs worst murderers, including mass murderers. Nearly all had horrific childhoods. The public still despise them.

The only difference with MJ is that people like his music. So somehow being a prolific child abuser, who somehow couldn’t help it, despite all his planning and orchestration to be able to abuse, doesn’t make him a bad man but an excusable and sympathetic victim.

🙄

That is not true - Jordan Chandlers parents never did that.

People on here really need to educate themselves about what happened instead of regurgitating false information.

Or that kid's family was offered a life-changing amount of money to revoke the allegations.

If Jackson was so innocent, why did he pay out these enormous settlements? Wouldn't he want to clear his name?

I find it offensive that you are making things up about him, really sick. He did NOT rape children. He liked being around children, also animals he was autistic and unique, not a rapist.

Jordy Chandler has never said any such thing. Gavin Arviso, James Safechuck, Wade Robson and now the Cascio family all said he abused them.

Because he was minted and just wanted a quiet life.
