To be hurt that I was called racist over trivial parking incident?

I was looking for a space in a full car park next to a row of shops. I spotted two spaces together; one disabled and one not.

I have a large car so parking next to a disabled spot is ideal for me as there's extra door width - I'm quite sturdy.

There was a man with a walking stick standing behind the car in the disabled spot next to the disabled spot.

He saw me signalling and moved across to the empty disabled spot and stuck his stick out to block the spot. Confused

I just carried on parking in the empty normal spot got out, locked up and he said quite aggressively 'you shouldn't be parking in the disabled spot' I looked back at my car and said "I wasn't" you weirdo

Then someone else came over and signaled to pull and he didn't stop them. I said "why didn't you stop her?""She's my sister"

So obviously he was saving the space for her.

I just rolled my eyes and walked off.

He shouted after me "Racist cow".

I'm still smarting after a few hours.

Or how about, when a person of colour tells you that you are being racist, you apologise and ask them what you can do to make them feel better? It's called being a decent human being, I know that's hard for many white people but honestly, just try it some time.

Oh yes absolutely, whenever someone is aggressive and unhelpful to me irl I always tilt my head, ask if they're ok and whether I could have handled the situation better. It's a fabulous de-escalation tactic. Though I do note that chaps tend to find it easier to be swearier and aggressive to women than to men, we must be doing something wrong, they can't all be arseholes.

Nobody uses racism for no reason. If he said you were racist then you obviously commited some sort of microagrression that you weren't consciously aware of. My advice would be to have a bit of introspection and ask yourself what you would do next time in order to not make someone feel like they are being racially attacked over a normal disagreement.

Basically, do better.

Im sure OPs long gone - but what's with the mad posts on here? OP expected to get out and grovel and apologise to a random bloke for something she hasn't done?! Ask him how she can 'help him feel better' after he shouted at her?!

So you're white and another person called you racist. So far you haven't mentioned anything about the other person being non white. That's quite an important part of the story.

Back in the early 00s I was called a racist bitch for needing the toilet. I worked behind a bar in a nightclub and we were really busy when I needed to go the toilet, I opened the bar gate, which had a big sign saying “No Service Here” when a black men (I’m white) who was tried to give me his order, told him I was going the toilet and his response was to call me a racist bitch. I just rolled my eyes at him and pushed past him. When I got back he was gone and I never saw him again.
