To ask if my boyfriend doing this last night is ‘normal’?

I was having a bath last night and he came in and used the loo (no.2). I shouted and asked what he was playing at and he said he has always done this with partners and vice versa as have plenty of people he knows. He stayed for a couple of minutes until he had finished and left laughing.

For context - together 4 months, he was staying at mine last night.

He has said he won’t do it again but I feel a bit humiliated by it tbh.

I have three toilets. I was in the main bathroom, there is also an en-suite and downstairs loo.

Reading the replies has made me realise it was likely deliberate/making a point.

Oh lord no, he has to go

Who the fuck takes an im in charge poop, that's unhinged

Hahaha - this is exactly what I thought, but I couldn't put it so well 😂

RedGlassHeart · 08/09/2026 19:07

Oh that would give me the major ick, I would absolutely be binning off the relationship for that, how gross! 🤢

Jeschara · 08/09/2026 19:10

No not normal. He is a disgusting animal. No respect. I would bin this one of quick, just ugh.

When you poo (and most especially when you flush poo away), you release tiny faecal particles into the air which can stay floating in the air for several minutes before settling onto nearby surfaces like towels and toothbrushes.

Can't believe this is news for people! It's the same with urine. I have been with my husband for nearly 30 years, and I have never urinated or pooed in the same room as him, and we used to have one toilet for many years; it's disgusting. I couldn't look at someone the same if they did that to me, and the fact that he chose to do that in a house with 3 loos is unbelievable.

FurthestEdge · 08/09/2026 19:28

My neighbours do this without a qualm. The subject came up because she said she was sitting talking to her husband while he was in the bath. I said how nice that you keep him company. She said no, she was doing a poo. I said what, while he was in the bath!? She said yes, they both use the toilet even if the other is in the bath.

I can't imagine thinking this is ok. Ever. Well, unless one was really taken short, but then you'd still have a bit of warning to jump out and get a towel. Never happened here though.

twistedpickle · 08/09/2026 19:35

I’m married and my husband would never come and use the loo whilst I’m in the bath or shower and vice versa. Sorry I find this totally strange

gamerchick · 08/09/2026 19:39

Been a while since we had a poo thread.

I usually do but as I was about to get in he suggested bringing me a glass of wine up so I left it unlocked for that reason.

So he did it on purpose! I suppose to see how far he could go.

PepsiBook · 08/09/2026 19:45

I voted unreasonable... Then read you had 3 toilets. Gross.

winklepickle · 08/09/2026 19:45

Definitely not normal. 25 years married, and DH and I have never used the toilet in front of each other (apart from one instance, when I was desperately ill in A&E and the poor bloke had to put me on the toilet for a wee.

He's testing your boundaries @Helenaslide

He wants to see what he can get away with, what you'll make excuses for.

Get rid. (Fwiw my domestic abuser father used to have similar power plays around bathroom and toilet access. It's a thing.)

Bonkers1966 · 08/09/2026 20:02

Whether you find it gross or not it appears he was testing your boundaries to see how much of his nonsense you will tolerate. At least you have only wasted 4 months on him.

Like I said, a baboon shitting to mark "his" territory.

Newsenmum · 08/09/2026 20:16

After only four months? No thanks.

There were two other toilets available????! Yeah, no, this is massively disrespectful and disgusting. Dump him - the laughing about it as well. Total power play. Ewwww. You poor thing. X

FateAmenableToChange · 08/09/2026 20:58

It would be over for me. Utterly revolting behaviour, and a taste of what is to come if you stay with this pig.

whatcanthematterbe81 · 08/09/2026 21:29

Power play. It will get worse

SALaw · 08/09/2026 21:30

Nope. Not happening. Not seeing him again.

InOverMyHead84 · 08/09/2026 21:30

Married for 8 years now.

This is a red line we will not cross.

cantthinkofagoodusername2026 · 08/09/2026 21:31

Sounds like some sort of power play to me. He’s seeing just what you will be willing to put up with.

SALaw · 08/09/2026 21:31

Newsenmum · 08/09/2026 20:16

After only four months? No thanks.

What’s the acceptable amount of time to be together to take a shit while the other person has a bath? (Clue - never).

2chocolateoranges · 08/09/2026 21:34

31 years wih my dh and neither of us have ever done a shit in front of each other. No thanks.

that would be an instant turn off for me.

a pee is fine but that is all.

MyLimeGuide · 08/09/2026 21:43

He sounds absolutely disgusting.

Switchnow · 08/09/2026 21:52

BunnyLake · 08/09/2026 18:02

To be fair my dog did look embarrassed at times. She honestly didn’t like me looking at her.

For sure they feel fear/anxiety about things and that may be one of them, but shame is a human social construct.

Callmyoutagainthen1986 · 08/09/2026 22:17

Huge red flag. The poo isn’t the problem, (even though it’s disgusting and never in a million years would I or my husband do that) the boundary crossing & laughing in your face about it is the big problem. Wouldn’t be surprised if he turns out to be abusive/coercive . So sorry it must be overwhelming for you reading all this. I honestly would break up asap. Not worth an ounce more time. He’ll probably try and make you seem crazy for breaking up over this but honestly you have this whole thread of people saying otherwise.
