Women arrive on small boats. Thankfully not all have been raped by fellow travellers. Sexual harassment and assault by traffickers is common.

Great that again we agree safe and legal routes is something the UK should explore for women in countries where they are oppressed.

@Switchnow We definitely share language and history with Australia, but the strong push to rejoin the EU proves that proximity, shared European values, and intertwined daily lives create a bond and share a similarity to counties, such as Denmark, are hard to ignore.

Politically and economically, our standards, consumer protections, labour laws, and environmental policies have always mirrored the more European models.

My point is there are many components to affinity and it doesn’t surprise me at all that people want to come to Europe rather than other Muslim countries, many of which experience the same difficulties, iniquities, climate issues or poverty that they’ve come from. And that’s even before you get to apostasy, sectarianism, and all that.

Most go to neighbouring countries. Jordan, for example, has far more Syrian refugees than any European country took (at the height of the war it had a million). Pakistan has 1.6m Afghan refugees currently.

I am not sure why people are buying this lie that “they all come here” when actually most go to their neighbours.

Then people will select places they are familiar with and they feel can have a fair and comfortable life (and a place they can become a part of society.)

Just because two countries share a faith does not mean they will have cultural alignment.
