AIBU to be shocked at the violence towards women at the Reform conference?

ILikeDinosaurs · Yesterday 11:03

Another video showing the violence against a woman at the Reform conference. They are actually PULLING A WOMAN DOWN ON THE FLOOR and KICKING HER.

A man in a suit and a man with a lanyard both kicking her. The man with the walking stick in the other videos (identified as Stephen Cooling) looks like he's pulling her down and possibly kicking her too. Women are just watching with no care for the victim.

This is Fascism. Given Nigel's horrifyingly GLEEFUL response to this, this violence will become the norm under Reform.

How can people defend this?

Mods please don't take this down, this mustn't be allowed to be ignored.

Slimy Nige has responded saying no one was upset when he got milkshake thrown at him so he doesn’t understand why anyone should be bothered about this (or words to that effect)
no apology forthcoming.

Violence is wrong, whether directed at a peaceful protestor, Nigel Farage, or anyone else.

It's very simple, really.

And very easy to condemn people throwing milkshakes while also condemning people assaulting these protestors.

I agree with Robert Jenrick's response - "Oh boo hoo". 😂

For too long, leftist agitators have felt entitled to walk over others in society with a total lack of respect.

It doesn't matter what the event is - a protest, a political rally, a meeting, a religious service - whatever it is, these people have felt entitled to invade and disrupt proceedings, showing complete lack of respect to those present, as well as to their rights to assemble and express reasonable opinions etc.

I am pleased to see there is now some push back against these arrogant bullies and I found it deeply satisfying to see them being manhandled out of the Reform conference.

Indeed I think they got off pretty lightly.

Wow. I think as we say on MN when people show you what they think and tell you what they are then you need to believe them.

I am sure Nigel will be in touch soon to ask you to contribute your persuasive arguments to the official policy documents.

The left has a recent history of murdering political opponents. They don’t get to claim the moral high ground, quite the opposite in fact. I hope all the protesters get charged with causing a breach of the peace.

The murderer of Jo Cox MP was a known far-right supporter. From Jo's entry in Wikipedia.

Thomas Mair, a 52-year-old Batley and Spen constituent and a white supremacist who was obsessed with Nazis and apartheid-era South Africa and had links to the US-based neo-Nazi group National Alliance, shouted "Britain first" as he attacked her

They are disgraceful

A fascist wants to control thought - she is a fascist who didn't belong but wanted to cause trouble. She certainly found it. No gaslighting here.

She was not violent and was protesting which is, as far as I know, is completely legal in this country and actually a right protected by our laws. She was violently assaulted which is a crime. She received no apology.

"She certainly found it" - ace example of victim blaming.

Reasonable people don't hijack political conferences.

Heckler can't hijack a conference of any kind. 🙄People are entitled to heckle and protest. Learn to live with that fact.

What happened? It's not clear what is going on?

How is it not clear?!

localnotail · Yesterday 13:15

After reading posts from Nige supporters on this thread I can't see how they can be described as anything other than old school thicko thugs.

Laws exist, not only for "lefties" but also for you, my dears.

Well, you can continue Pearl clutching at how awful those Reform People are, or address the elephant in the room that Reform voters have been called thick as pigshit gammon flag shaggers… and Farage has received death threats. They have been sneered at and derided constantly. Tipping point just noticed… oops they fought back.

Snowflakes are they?

Ive been involved in politics for 41 years, I’ve been spat on, hit, shouted at, chased by dogs, pissed on - a tent at Greenham, …

certainly party conferences are a time of protest and heckling - it’s normal

Never have I violently assaulted or even responded with violence anyone opposing me - there is no excuse

facists do not tolerate decent or anyone questioning them - they respond with violence, they assault the police, burn cars and bins and, in this case , use unwarranted and disproportionate aggression.

I am in no way shocked or surprised

So, if you were at some event and suddenly some aggressive imposter revealed themselves, you would not be alarmed or take any action yourself?

You would sit back coolly, and say "let security do their job"?

In era of mass attacks against civilian targets, I find that hard to believe.

Most people would be alarmed in such a situation and would likely take reasonable action, such as distancing themselves or restraining the individual in question.

Bear in mind a Reform MP has recently been murdered in a political attack.

In that context, I think a lot of posts are judging the actions of the Reform supporters very unreasonably.

She was not being physically aggressive. She was shouting.

The law is quite clear on this subject. If a person has genuine belief that they are in danger they may use reasonable force to protect themselves.

The reasonable force can only be at the same level as the force being used against them. So in this case all they would have been allowed to do was shout back at her.

Under no circumstances was it acceptable for them to use the level of violence which is shown in the video clips.

Anyone who thinks this sort of behaviour is acceptable has got some serious issues which urgently need to be addressed. Be they left or right.

Reasonable people don't hijack political conferences.

Reasonable people don't mock women being assaulted.

The condoning of these Women being viciously attacked, from some posters, is alarming, imo.

The fascist woman who infiltrated the conference needs a hobby, as do so many others.

Infiltrated? Get a grip.

NotAtMyAge · Yesterday 13:17

LuckyHazelFox · Yesterday 12:54

You don't want to censorship - yet you're commending this heckler, who was there to disrupt speech she doesn't agree with!

Disrupting speech is not censorship, it's politics. Have you never been to any election campaign hustings? The power here was all on Reform's side. They had the microphones and the security. All the hecklers had were their voices.

Are you an advocate of gatecrashing, normally?

If the protestors actually gate-crashed, the security team weren't doing their job properly.

DancelikeFredAstaire · Yesterday 13:19

If that's how they treat women that stand up to them in public, then how badly do they treat women doing the same in private? As long as it's white British men being violent against women then that's ok for Farage and his supporters. If you think things are bad for women and girls now, it's going to get a whole lot worse if Farage ever gets to power.

CaptainMyCaptain · Yesterday 13:19

LuckyHazelFox · Yesterday 11:26

The fascist woman who infiltrated the conference needs a hobby, as do so many others.

What definition of fascist is holding up a banner? It was a quiet non-violent protest and she was beaten with a stick and had her hair pulled.

SeriousTissues · Yesterday 13:19

I voted that you are unreasonable purely because I’m past the point of being shocked by violence against females.

Stairlifter · Yesterday 13:20

God honestly, some of the replies on this thread.

Yes, some people on the left have done bad things. That is wrong. This is also wrong.

The difference here though, I think, is that the entire party is based on rage. Not every member or supporter of it is violent or rageful, but a high proportion are very angry at stuff (we can debate their justification, but not here). That is different to the other parties. Reform is also very much on the authoritarian right, where due process traditionally takes second place to action, some of it violent.

It is no surprise that such a party attracts a higher than average proportion of thugs. Whataboutery doesn't cut it. This was wrong and should be condemned. But they won't, because it means confirming their own and confronting some hard truths about themselves.

Marycontrarygarden · Yesterday 13:20

Marellain · Yesterday 12:26

That’s projection on your part. You are trying to stir up feelings. Negative input from you.

You explain the violence then?

bigboykitty · Yesterday 13:20

I think you're being unreasonable. Reform are the poster boys for violence against women and girls. All those domestic abusers running around not wanting the forriners to abuse women because they want to preserve those rights for themselves. I'm not shocked. Broadly speaking, they are of lower intelligence and less educated. This is how they go about dealing with people who oppose their hate. Just look at any local Facebook page. They are scum.
