AIBU to be shocked at the violence towards women at the Reform conference?

Apparently Reform claimed that Farage's speech was delayed because 'counter terrorism police' wouldn't let him on stage.

Yet people also seem to be saying that there was little security at the venue and the audience had no other option but to take things into their own hands.

These stories down't tie up.

What do I need to grip of?

Simultaneously so strict that Farage couldn't attend the Clacton count (again some dispute over what the police advised), but so loose that anyone could turn up with anything at the conference, and the only thing that prevented a major incident was the intervention of audience members with a stick.

I agree that the vast majority of violence against women is by men, but in this case members of both sexes assaulted the protesters. The video clips show that quite clearly.

I'm not sure that changes my point? The perpetrators of violence against a woman are being excused and the victim blamed because some posters prefer the politics of the perpetrators to the victim's. This is a very different approach to attacks on women than we usually see on this forum and it surprises me. The fact that some of the assailants were women doesn't make it less surprising.

I'm afraid that in this specific post, @LuckyHazelFox isn't talking much sense at all. Thought control is not a defining tenet of fascist ideology and to claim that someone must be a fascist because they want to control thought (a somewhat dubious analysis of the protester's intentions anyway), suggests either a lazy and inaccurate insult or a complete misunderstanding of political ideologies. Either way, what LHF is talking here is non-"sense". It's interesting that this is the post you chose to highlight.

I don't think it changes it. I simply felt that only mentioning violence by men overlooked the fact that in this case women were among the assailants and were openly cheering on their actions. That actually shocked me.

This thread seems to have been overtaken by myths, this sometimes happens on mumsnet.

I said that the only unsettling thimg I saw was a woman being held by her hair.

I asked for evidence of people being punched, kicked and hit with crutches. None has been provided. Some pictures were posted, but they did not show any of these alleged attacks.

Someone linked a BBC article which claimed the police are looking into an incident involving a woman being grabbed by the hair.

The Police are seemingly not looking for anyone over incidents involving being punched, kicked or hit with crutches.

In the article, Zia Yusuf was asked if he condones punching people and he said no. Thats the only reference to punching.

I am 100% open to revising my opinion if any evidence of these things is provided. But currently it seems we are getting all het up over myths or exaggerations.

Crutches indicate that someone who is injured or disabled was present. I think its remarkable that someone of this description is being painted as an violent assailant. Really?

Imagine the hecklers were Reform supporters. Then, the story would be flipped to "Reform thugs attack disabled pensioners". Its all so predictable.

I dont condone violence against anyone, and I dont think anyone on the thread has condoned violence. Rather, a lot of people have commented on the obvious point that if you going into someone's special event and try hard to get up their nose, you likely wont get a very friendly response. Especially in a climate where a Reform politician has recently been murdered.

Shaven-headed, true, but a different vibe. Burnham's look like their main purpose is to protect Burnham. Farage's look like they're hoping to be able to punch people in the face at the slightest provocation eg a mutinous milkshake flung at Farage's face.

Its perfectly clear from the video the woman is being attacked by multiple people and that the way she was treated was violent.
I'm not sure we need to fuss about crutches versus walking sticks, whether a person with a mobility aid is capable of assault or argue that she wasn't kicked when we can all see her being held by her hair.
Reform supporters will twitter about the details to minimise and justify turning a blind eye to the violence. Other people will see the violence and judge for themselves.
That's the tricky thing with video footage. You can't persuade people it's not that bad when they've seen it themselves.

I don’t understand why BBC hasn’t reported on this or the C4 takedown. I need our 70+ year old relatives to see this footage! The cheek of it was, some Reform campaigners came to our door today and I actually felt scared of them. It’s awful.
