to expect 51 year old DH not to look at 20 year olds?

Good relationship on the whole however DH does have a large ego that comes with him training pretty excessively in my opinion and often complimented on his physique

No kids together however he has a DD of 14 and my DS is 21.

I am 41 and he is 52 and looks his age face wise I would say but body much younger.

A girl in a coffee shop today walked past our table as I was paying and his eyes followed her all the way out of the door - he turned to watch her leave as he didn’t realise I could see him from where I was

She was wearing a very tight short black dress so I can see how you would look initially however the following her with his eyes grossed me out especially as she was about 20.

I’ve never seen him do this so obviously and we’ve been together 8 years.

He's not a pervert for noticing an attractive young woman.
It's normal.

The mistake he made is being obvious about it.

It is disrespectful and rude to ogle.

The OP seems to me to be trying to make him out to be a weirdo for fancying an attractive young woman, sorry OP, he is not.

Get over it.

Leeching over young women that could be the same age as your granddaughter is absolutely disgusting by any man obvious or not. It is grim and predatory and I hated it as a teen. Old knackered men ogling away - I wanted to kick them in the balls and gouge their eyes. Most girls will tell you to fuck off these days.

He sounds gross 🤢
im not sure if there’s any going back from this!

You would divorce your husband if he turned around and looked at a young woman in a revealing dress?

WhatNextImScared · 01/09/2026 07:34

Sally3490 · 01/09/2026 01:11

Yuk. I often see men like this ogling my 20 year old daughter. Funnily enough I never see similar age women doing the same to my 19 year old son. Male entitlement.

This!

BeMellowAquaSquid · 01/09/2026 07:35

How are you going to navigate where he looks whether it’s appropriate or not?

Kingdomofsleep · 01/09/2026 07:36

Definitely not normal.

20 is so so young. I'm not yet forty and I find it hard to tell 17yos apart from 21yos, they all look so baby faced. Recently in a restaurant, my dh and I laughed to each other that it was staffed by kids "oh wait, it's more that we're getting older".

When normal people get older their attraction healthily adjusts to people approximately their own age. So for example I find (some of) the school dads vaguely attractive, but not my dc's football coaches (I genuinely can't guess how old they are, just under 25)

That's not happening to your husband which in my view is a sign of an unhealthy lack of development. I guess you could call it the Leo Dicaprio syndrome.

TotaleclipseinFrance · 01/09/2026 07:37

EnglishRose26 · 01/09/2026 07:28

Nope. I could not be with someone that did this, ever. Absolutely disgraceful and sickening. He is old enough to be her grandfather ffs! His ego alone would be enough - op you can do far better than this.

I don't know what you mean by this.

Is it the ogling or the fact that he may find a young woman of 20 attractive? Both? Though the first implies the second.

If it's finding a man who doesn't ogle, yes she can do better.

My dh would not do this.
I do catch him occasionally looking at other women very discreetly (so what I look at other men discreetly too) but I rib him about it because we've got a long history that's based upon much, much more than who we find attractive.
Maybe the OP hasn't. That's the problem.

If it's a man who does not appreciate that 20-year-old women are attractive, well good luck to her on that.

SummerAsh · 01/09/2026 07:42

daisychain01 · 01/09/2026 06:56

Why not raise your bar.

your thread title suggests that the problem is that he shouldn't be looking at young women in their 20s. So you'd be OK at him gawking at women in other age categories,

get rid, he sounds vile. Dont you think you deserve better?

Yes, it was inappropriate for him to extend his glance into a longer look, but screaming LTB over it is ridiculously peak MN nonsense.

lxn889121 · 01/09/2026 04:25

Unfortunately it isn't entitlement, but just biological reality. You can look up the research on age and attraction, and it is pretty hardwired into us all.

On average, women prefer slightly older men, a few years older than they are - until they are in their 40s-50s, when it flips and they prefer men who are slightly younger, but only by a very small amount.

Men, on average, no matter how old they are, prefer women in their early 20s. This never changes, and there is nothing that can be done about it, whether they are 20, 60 or 90, if you are talking about looks, their preferences are the same.

Nonsense. What you’ve done here is seen the TikTok’s that men of all ages are attracted to 20year olds from a questionnaire. You have then made up why, and presented it as fact. You are welcome to think it’s biological and hard wired. I disagree, I think it’s entitlement, porn and a patriarchal society. It’s one thing to think they’re attractive, it is a totally different thing to stare for a long time as if you and they are a possibility. Also ‘about 20’ covers probably 16 through to 24. It’s grim. And, EVEN if it were a biological reality, how does that make it ok to perv ok a young woman. There is plenty of info out there that women hate it.

geumsun · 01/09/2026 07:45

Make sure you bring his vanity back down to Earth with a bang.

'A 20 year would find you physically repulsive and would gag at the thought of being intimate with you. Stop being creepy and weird'.

Once you've levelled his self esteem, do keep a watch out because I would not trust this man. Sometimes character hints are subtle but they expose a much bigger picture.

arethereanyleftatall · 01/09/2026 07:46

JenRummy · 01/09/2026 05:57

He got caught but whether we like it or not (hate it personally) a large portion of male population do this imho. He’ll have been doing this all the time, and only difference here is OP clocked him.

Have you written this as if you think that because many men do it, it makes it alright?!? Strange if so. It makes every single one of them grim, entitled pervs. Women need to be single more!

SweetcornFritter · 01/09/2026 07:47

Vodkamartini3olives · 01/09/2026 02:23

He should have been more discreet about it. I was at the beach this weekend and a very attractive Young man walked by. I did watch him all the way along behind my sunglasses. When I pulled them down to get a last look I made eye contact with a woman of a similar age to me who'd also clocked him, we shared a knowing nod. I wouldn't consider myself a 'perv'.

This sounds like it came straight out of a 2000s Diet Coke advert.

SummerAsh · 01/09/2026 07:42

It absolutely is not. It’s like the ‘he left the dishes by the sink’ thing. It’s about what him doing this means about who he is.

SummerAsh · 01/09/2026 07:52

-If it's a man who does not appreciate that 20-year-old women are attractive, well good luck to her on that.

Yes, it doesn’t matter how much older women hate this, men find 20-year old women very attractive. It biological not some kind of sick perversion.

Of course that doesn’t give men the right to gawp and leer, but although I think the OP is reasonable, the fact that she implies it is unacceptable for her DH to find a 20-something attractive, but that an older woman would have been more ok, shows she doesn’t understand how male sexual attraction works.

Doozycan · 01/09/2026 07:52

Lemonymint · 01/09/2026 05:54

A man of your husband's age should have learnt some discretion even if there is some biological imperative to stare at females of breeding age. All that was missing from his performance seems to be him licking his lips. I think your husband possibly has an exaggerated view of his attractiveness to younger women despite the fact that he's got a face like a worn boot. His behaviour was very disrespectful to you - who is signficantly younger than him in any case.

I was seen as very attractive as a young woman - you know the sort where men literally dropped books to run after me at university. ( I was totally insecure about my looks and very shy.) I got plenty of men like this and I always just felt sorry for their wives or girlfriends who looked miserable. I missed a lot of it because I was too vain to wear my glass over much. I do recall my mother pointing out that the partner of the woman I used to hack out with whose partner once accompanied us took a quite unwholesome interest in my bottom. I did point out that it would have helped if she'd told me before the ride where I spent a fair proportion of time bent forward on the horse opening gates.) At least he was a contemporary but the number of old codgers who thought they had a chance with me was quite disturbing - I mean they were old enough to be my father and far less attractive than my father it must be said. At least he was genuinely youthful looking and had a great head of hair which is more than you could say for most of the ageing codging.

I would absolutely call my husband out on this kind of behaviour. Thankfully, my husband has never let me see him behave like this. I would be having sharp words if he had. I hesitate to suggest that you point out particuarly attractive young men to your husband as you praise their butts or whatever but I'd be tempted. (This doesn't mean you actually leer at them of course.) I have sons too and to the best of my knowledge they don't behave like this either.

You sound like a novelist from mills and boon was imagining what kind of movie your story was relating to 😀

Yes the predatory ogling, the fucking entitlement that he can stare at a young woman when he is several decades older than her, is really quite rancid. The kind of old man that does not care that he makes young women feel uncomfortable and judged would most certainly not be for me.

My dh never looks at young girls, he finds it repulsive and does not find them attractive as they are the same age as his own dc. So for him it would be an absolute no. I would feel the same about my dd's young male friends, no matter how handsome, I just do not see them in that way.

If my dh was leering over a woman/women, I would absolutely call it a day, mainly because I would stop trusting him, would question his character and it would give me the major ick. I would not stay with a man that did this, no chance. It is disrespectful, embarrassing and he is without a moral compass.

JasmineMac · 01/09/2026 07:55

Making it obvious he was checking her out is entirely disrespectful.

The idea that men stop noticing attractive women once they reach some arbitrary age is nonsense though, I'm afraid. Making it obvious they're checking an attractive woman out is the red flag.

PinotandPray · 01/09/2026 07:55

GrossedoutGertrude · 01/09/2026 01:00

So looking is fine without the turn around?

I think I would still find it gross considering the age gap

He actually said he didn’t realise her age as didn’t look at her face - no shit idiot

It’s more that he’s doing that in front of you OP! I’ve seen stunning women walk past before (and felt insecure) and my DH hasn’t even looked their way and I hope all DHs do the same in presence of their OHs!

Mooselander · 01/09/2026 07:55

YABU. They’re both adults. Looking at attractive people is natural instinct. Nothing wrong with that.

Being married or in a relationship doesn’t stop you fancying other people, nor should it.

It just means he finds 20-something women attractive, like all men do. The women was walking away so it’s not like his looking impacted her. He had what he thought was a sneaky look at a young attractive woman, and that no one would notice - unfortunately for him his DW did… This doesn’t make him an evil pervert.

SummerAsh · 01/09/2026 08:01

@EnglishRose26

My dh never looks at young girls, he finds it repulsive and does not find them attractive…

Well obviously he tells you that given the rest of your post…. Why would he risk being honest about it?

If he's that obvious in a cafe when he's out with his wife, imagine how vile he is at the gym.
