Stopping the boats is easy...

titbumwillypoo · 22/08/2026 15:47

All we have to do is abandon the ECHR, the Refugee Convention, the UN, the G7, NATO and the WTO. Then we can break maritime law and start sinking the boats. Obviously we'd have to proscribe the RNLI and change the job description of the coast guard to encourage people who want to sink boats to sign up. The fishermen will be fine.
Once we start with this deterrent we can start kicking out other undesirables. I'd start with the students. Coming over here using our universities as a gateway to benefits street. So we ban them, no more student visas. We might see a few universities close but no great loss, you learn more in the school of life.
After that take away access to ALL benefits for anyone not born here. Don't care if you've always worked and paid your taxes you're not ENGERLISH so less Dr Khalid more Dr Callum.
Obviously once we start making Britain Great again there may be a couple of teensy issues. Food might cost a lot more because the lefty EU might not want to trade with a nation that wants to isolate itself and kill innocent people. It'll be fine because there will be 100% employment because instead of benefits you'll have to do your 60 hours on the food farm to earn your pound credits.
Family will be legally obliged to look after any living relative as there won't be anyone left to do it because we deported them all. And obviously the NHS was full of loony lefties who went round caring for people instead of focusing on what really mattered, which is profit.
They're just a couple of the benefits of stopping the boats, because who cares about the bigger picture or unintended consequences eh?
Giving up our place on the world stage is a small price to pay for stopping a handful of people coming from countries we benefited from or bombed isn't it?

People behave better when treated humanely.

I have only made a passing reference to the real world cost of securing barracks. I have no idea what this entails. I have offered no opinion on it.

The distance to where you are and whether there’d be restrictions on movement were considerations before saying yes or no.

Which was interesting. But on this are you concerned the men wouldn’t behave well?

LuckyHazelFox · 28/08/2026 13:51

@BasildonBonds You said you were more worried about the locals. It's a well established distraction tactic. Nobody expects you to hate male Muslim asylum seekers. You are just doing all you can to deny the huge risk they pose. @poetryandwine you still haven't answered have you whether you would want asylum seekers housed by you. You said it was a generic question. @BasildonBonds was quick to say she would be happy, so if you're telling the rest of us we are wrong, we can conclude you would feel safe living by them. As safe as you would living next door to an open prison, I presume. Reform voters approach crime far more with their eyes open than you do. BTW.

I don’ think it is relevant whether you, I or anyone else wish to bear a particular responsibility of life in the UK. When it’s our turn, we need to suck it up. The issue could be housing asylum seekers, living near a nuclear reactor, whatever. It is acceptable for everyone or for no one.

A big part of the problem now is that it doesn’t work this way in reality.

I believe the government has an obligation to minimise burdens and share them as equably as possible. Regarding the housing of asylum seekers, this would lead to dispersed housing which would be better for everyone.

I think the hotels and barracks are a bad idea for everyone, but no worse for my family than for others. They are worst for their inhabitants.

The survey published by the Independent demonstrated that Reform voters grossly overestimate crime in the UK. It suits Nigel Farage very well to gin up emergencies to distract his supporters from the criminal investigation the Met has launched into pre-election donations to Reform.

Less so than with the gangs of rough yoof on the housing estates in the city. Then again, the only women I know personally who have been raped have been in the large majority I mentioned above.

So no, I don’t think asylum seeking men pose an undue threat. I think women, particularly women alone, need to use a certain vigilance in most environments. But not to go over the top about it.

themoonandhalfacrown · 28/08/2026 15:26

@poetryandwine "People behave better when treated humanely"
And your evidence for this is ?

because I've not seen any of it at our local foodbank. They complain about the food offered (don't forget it's free and donated by people) and if they don't like it throw it on the floor saying "we can't eat that". They are grabby and rude and can't understand that volunteers can only give out what is donated.
This means that the foodbank will soon have to stop operating because volunteers aren't going to put up with such bad behaviour.
This means our own genuine needy folks will lose out.

The Liverpool Hospital bomber wasn't treated "inhumanely" in fact he was taken in by a Christian family in the first instance, then he decided to make a bomb to blow some people up.
I could give scores of other examples of people abusing this country's hospitality

I’m fine if you and the pp use yoof as comfort and don’t want to go over the top about risk if it means the barracks are near you first.

However I don’t think any woman should have to say ok to crimes which don’t have to happen. It’s fine for the government to fix it as a basic duty.

There’s no way the glass attack, a horrendous screwdriver attack, rapes by grinning men, then Belfast, Italy or German versions are a so what it’s just part of it. I’m a no thanks to that.

I would be more accepting of these boat people if they contained more women and children rather than fighting age men who have thrown their passports away, been through several safe countries where they could stay and who are given fast tracked healthcare, a place to live, phones and new clothes etc.
These same types are housed in a very large hotel in my town. All men, no women. They prowl the town and surrounding areas looking for young women and children. They have been caught taking videos of children in a massive playground here and have exposed themselves to teenage girls. I can’t tar all of them with the same brush but either way any of them thinking this sort of behaviour is acceptable needs booting out of this country. If they attack, sexually harass and rape women then they are deported immediately.
The government must know the risks and have evidence if they have planned for and produced that ridiculous magic “leaflet” that should stop these men from thinking they can do what they want.

Which of these sources have you watched or read?

Your really Jeremy Corbyn and I claim my £5.

Answering a question with a question just shows you don't like the answer you have to give.

You just cannot admit that these people are safe, could stay safe, could claim asylum in safety and have no need whatsoever to cross the English channel other than for financial motives

I have to say your wasting your time. I've pointed that out at least 5 times on this thread and get mealy mouthed responses that events from colonial times (Eritrea, Afghanistan and Iran 3 of the 4 biggest populations who claim asylum in the UK never being British colonies).

They might have family here already...yep and there's mechanisms for immediate family to come, but someone's cousins, boyfriends, step brother doesn't count.

They speak English...so does Mickey Mouse, Donald and Goofy...but your not going to give them asylum

BasildonBonds · 28/08/2026 16:32

We don't usually grant asylum to people from the USA. That is true.

Jenrick in particular would really object to Mickey, Donald and Goofy. He has literally had them wiped out in the past.

yellowspanner · 28/08/2026 16:49

But we should definitely leave the ECHR as soon as possible. We could then deport more failed asylum seekers and foreign criminals

I am fine with what they are doing because it is within the framework of the law.

If you don’t like it, work to change the system. Maybe start by helping Nigel try to keep his seat after the Parliamentary investigation reports.

Which crimes against women do have to happen then? Are you as strongly protective of women who are victims of British men?

I’m pretty sure most of the electorate see it as the government’s job to lower crime already.

It’ll take a lot but the impetus is there and the pressure.

For the murder of Rhiannon Whyte, Brighton rape, Belfast attack, glass attacker, Italy, German versions I don’t accept oh well it’s just part of a system.

So change it. Why not?

You want get the lefties wanting that. They find all sorts of pearl clutching reasons not to leave it. Most of which are irrelevant as we have domestic laws protecting our rights.

I am working to change the law, by speaking out on forums like this where people have been cowed into silence and bullied by the tag of being a racist. Given I dislike everyone equally I can't be a racist...I was also anti immigration from the EU.

Therefore, by giving an opposing voice to those who believe that everyone and their brother should be allowed into our country, pointing out the idiotic concept of letting people who arrive illegally which only encourages others to risk their lives and by putting the difficult question(s) why would you leave a perfectly safe country to go to another safe country. I hope to get people to see that immigration is not sustainable, is dangerous and will just lead to the UK becoming a third world country itself.

But generally there is a well established small but positive correlation between immigration and economic success. £3B pa in the UK.

Why wouldn’t you want that?

Smokeywater · 28/08/2026 20:06

People quote the GDP as a measure of success economically and working immigrants are thought to increase that -however - we are 6th in the world in GDP (ooooo! A rich country) BUT if you measure GDP per capita we are 20th -so pretty shit. 30th per capita based on purchasing power parity.

Because those figures are completely skewed by the multi millionaires and billionaires from Russia, the middle east, Hong Kong who have come here (incidentally pushing London house prices up beyond the reach of even professional middle class people)

Have you not read the post about 71% of somalian immigrants living in council housing.

Irrespective of that there is the issue of massive damage being done to British culture and values. There have been repeated stories of councils up and down the country removing the word Christmas, the young girl sent home from school for wanting to celebrate being British, the repeated failure of my own local press to attend st George's days events and I will mention it, the failure of the authorities to act against peadophiles because of their ethnicity, blaming the victims and of course Henry Nowak.

The British economy, despite what you may believe is actually very strong and performing well. Further immigration will only weaken it

Brazillas · 28/08/2026 22:09

There's more to a country than just GDP. We don't need to accept mass migration just because it makes GDP go up.

I work with a large proportion of intelligent, very highly educated people from Europe and overseas. The UK would be poorer in every way without them.
