To think Meghan Markle has every right to worry about her security?

I’m not a monarchist and haven’t really taken much notice of the whole saga, but obviously do know the main points.

However, the comments across Mumsnet and multiple newspapers and websites are absolutely insane and unhinged. People who don’t know them insisting she’s leaving Harry and the kids, is controlling him, that they’re skint and tge
kids will have to go to state school if Charles doesn’t pay, people saying they hope a random stranger sees her and gives her ‘some home truths’.

It is absolutely crackers and I worry about the sanity of the people who seem to really believe they know them.

I think they’re crazy to come back. Her life (and their kids lives by extension) will be made a misery. She seems to be public enemy number one at the moment (for not doing very much wrong other than telling a few home truths).

Taken from a UK security firm website in the UK
There is the fear that working in this type of role without a gun will make you more vulnerable, but this isn’t the case. Close protection officers in the UK are trained to handle situations without the use of a firearm. It could even be said to be safer than working in the US, because the chances of running into someone who poses a threat with a gun is much lower. There is also no risk that you could accidentally harm an innocent bystander when discharging your weapon.
Close protection officers commonly wear stab vests to enable them to engage directly with threats without worrying about knives or other sharp objects. They are also trained to avoid these situations rather than engage with them. Being able to identify the vulnerability in a situation and actively avoid it could be said to be safer than allowing dangerous situations to unfold and then using a firearm to protect against the threat.

Well, there was the little matter of a few blatant lies, and the peculiar allegations of racism which they later withdrew.

But actually I think they just need to follow the example of people like Zara Tyndall and keep their heads down and get on with useful work of some sort that doesn't rely on Netflix money. The newspapers will certainly hang around for a bit, and probably won't ever keep away completely - but they'll quieten down if they're never given anything mildly interesting to publish.

Did you read Spare?

He was making the opposite point that current warfare with technology means you are removed from the actual act of killing. He likened it to playing chess. He said you had to develop that mentality to get the job done.

He was saying he wasn’t proud and he wasn’t guilty either. That he did his job,

I don’t think that constitutes boasting?

Why would anyone read that piece of fiction?

He’s at risk because of the family he was born in to.

Why is he more at risk than anyone else who was born into that family?

Because there are more articles and broadcasts and podcasts and posts about Harry and Meghan atm than virtually any other member of the RF; it’s a cottage industry at this point, leading them to be more in the public eye and therefore more likely to be the target of potential nutters?

And because when they were here previously Meghan faced racist attacks from right wing extremists who were charged and jailed in some instances for making really nasty threats and sending them envelopes of white powder etc.

And because there are some hideous extremely racist individuals out there who blame Meghan for “diluting the purity” as they see it, of the RF.

It’s all seriously dark and menacing and I wouldn’t want my dc anywhere near it.

But neither would I want my high profile dc in a school in the US with the gun laws as they are either.

Sorry it’s from AI but out of interest I looked up how many times personal protection officers had shot people in UK. The information isn’t available but very rare. However I found this on accidental discharge of firearms.

Recorded Accidental Discharge Incidents

  • June 2000 (The Royal Train): A protection officer accidentally fired two bullets inside a carriage on the royal train while the Queen and Prince Philip were asleep on board; no one was injured. 1, 2]
  • April 2003 (Sunninghill Park): A Metropolitan Police officer accidentally discharged a firearm while unloading it inside Prince Andrew’s residence. No injuries were reported. 1]
  • November 2008 (Ben-Gurion Airport): A bodyguard protecting former Prime Minister Tony Blair accidentally fired his Glock pistol into the ground inside the airport terminal in Israel. No one was hurt.1, 2]
  • November 2012 (North Wales): An officer assigned to guard the residence of Prince William and Catherine (then the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge) accidentally let off a shot inside an unmarked vehicle. The bullet struck the floor of the car, and no one was injured. 1]
it could be argued that they are safer without armed protection in the uk.

PC fires gun on royal train

A royal protection officer accidentally discharged two shots from his gun on the royal train as the Queen and Prince Philip slept in a nearby carriage early yesterday morning.

I do know that decent military people do not talk about their kills - it's considered considered a heavy social taboo. Typical of Harry though 🙄

I don’t really like her but she and the Children need some protection . Harry was paying privately in the States why can’t he do that here?

Apparently he offered but the Home Office said that he couldn't purchase the services of the British Police like that.
He could always pay for private bodyguards, mind you.

Not a royalist - very neutral on it but I think MM is disliked because she comes across as someone who lies for attention, gaslights, petty and inauthentic. She took the piss out of the Queen during an interview, much to Harry's discomfort and she butts into his conversations when she's not included to make herself seen and heard in addition to saying she wants privacy but always talking about herself and teasing pics of the children. In addition to all of that, they have their photos taken at grave sites etc but want us to believe paparazzi hangs out behind trees at the grave site waiting for them to coincidentally pass by during their time of peaceful reflection in solitude.

It's a bit much!

The creepy staged photos at the cemetery were just bad taste their literally standing on the graves of soldiers but hey as long as they got some photos ☹️

As I understand it they have been offered the protection which Ravec considers that they need, based on a lot of intelligence on terrorist groups and other threats. If they think they need more, it's clearly up to them to arrange it.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 25/08/2026 09:02

I don’t dislike Megan, I think that she has been treated appallingly by the daily mail alongside a lot of the public hate for her, however I can set how she sets out to irritate people.

The photo in Paris passing the crash site with her feet on the dashboard. Now the friendship struck up with the other “Pick me” Geri Horner former member of the spice girls.

Especially given the time of year. November > end of Feb is dire in the U.K. It’ll be quite the downer after sunny California.

Maybe, like most people, she thought it was a pile of nonsense

She obviously didn't. She enjoys having the titles and certainly wanted them for her children.
Very much not nonsense in Meghan's mind.

I don't think this is all her. Harry has a huge chip on his shoulder about not being as important as his brother. He's the one going on about his kids being Royal. Just like Andrew. There is clearly something wrong with the way the younger children are treated in the RF as generations have had issues.

I think you're right about Harry, but she does insist on being addressed by her title, and she does have a coronet on her notepaper (also HRH).
I'm just challenging the fact that she finds titles "nonsense".
They both demonstrably love them!

Princess Margaret springs to mind.

I think it must be difficult for them. They spend half of their life being told that they belong to the main, important branch of the Royal Family and are greatly more important than the other relatives, the ‘hangers on’.

Then their siblings marries and has children and suddenly they and their children become the ‘hangers on’, and everyone says they need to get proper jobs and not use their titles and royal connections.

It will be the same for Charlotte and Louis. They are very much now considered key members of the Royal Family. Respectable, top tier royals. By the time George is the monarch and he has children, Charlotte and Louis will have been downgraded in the eyes of the public, their children will be called ‘hangers on’, and the only real, proper royals will be George and his children. Until his eldest has kids and the process repeats.

For every Margaret and Andrew, you have Anne and Edward. Then we consider the late Queen's Father, the spare who was a better monarch than the flighty heir. I don't think it's easy to blame one thing, humans are too complex.

paomara · 27/08/2026 14:40

With a bit of luck we won't hear much about ANY of them until around Christmas. Then wow at the Winter coloured coats, the twinkling lights and candles in the Cathedral and then back to normal after the trundle up the avenue to church for the morons who give the kids selection boxes.

You could not make it up about this gang. They are a high profile very wealthy family, just like many others that live in Britain. Difference is, we pay for a lot of it, whereas other wealthy individuals earned it and keep their heads down.

I hope HaM are happy and content in their new life here. May there be no arguments, sibling rivalry, hissy fits and so on, and may they all reconcile and enjoy being one big happy rich family again.

I wouldn’t put Andrew in the same group as Margaret or Harry to be fair to them. I don’t think abusing women can ever be explained away by childhood experiences.

The Queen’s father was never displaced by nieces and nephews - he always remained ‘important’ and close to the throne, as did his children. His brothers’ children were born prince and princesses, and there was no question that they wouldn’t use their titles. Their children were working members of the Royal Family.

It’s quite a recent trend to streamline the Royal Family and discard the monarch’s cousins/expect princesses and princes not to use their titles. I don’t think it’s wrong, but I do think it must be difficult to get used to - going from the core Royal Family to being a bit player, and your children completely removed from working in the ‘business’ whilst your sibling’s children follow a very different path.

But I take your point that it depends on an individual’s character too as to whether their children being growing up with royal trappings would be desirable.

I agree Andrew isn't in the same category as his siblings, shouldn't have mentioned him in the same sentence. Uncle David seemed pretty unsavoury though maybe not in the same way. Power and status really does corrupt doesn't it
