To think Meghan Markle has every right to worry about her security?

I’m not a monarchist and haven’t really taken much notice of the whole saga, but obviously do know the main points.

However, the comments across Mumsnet and multiple newspapers and websites are absolutely insane and unhinged. People who don’t know them insisting she’s leaving Harry and the kids, is controlling him, that they’re skint and tge
kids will have to go to state school if Charles doesn’t pay, people saying they hope a random stranger sees her and gives her ‘some home truths’.

It is absolutely crackers and I worry about the sanity of the people who seem to really believe they know them.

I guess it’s similar to when people slightly like / adore celebs or anyone they’ve never met. A media image is crafted (good or bad), and it’s normal and how people make money - think Brand Beckham. It can also go the other way and people can dislike or dispise people they’ve never met by seeing or reading things about them.

Apparently if people are awarded UK publicly funded security it also is covered overseas, so they could move abroad and yes you’ve guessed it, free security.

Personally I got bored of the two of them a long time ago, and I find him more infuriating, but you have to give it to them they still can stir the pot for people.

I think you might be on the wrong board, this one was asking if M deserved state funded security. The people saying no they are very rich and should pay for their own. How is that being subservient to their masters.

Neither the OP, or the post I was replying to, were discussing whether MM ‘deserves’ (wtf?) security at all - they were commenting on how unhinged her haters are.

Perhaps you are on the wrong board?

Noodles1234 · 24/08/2026 07:29

Honestly I couldn’t call it. Princess Anne was the daughter of the Queen and had a threat carried out (there was a remake on The Crown). She doesn’t get Security nor her children growing up / now unless official. Her own bought house has none either. Prince Edward the same, son of the Queen he didn’t either. Just Andrew demanded it and it was eventually removed.

Harry now son of the King, David Blunkett has suggested a temporary middle ground of 2 people for the Principal while they live here. I think it is prudent to not do a full blown permanent as this then proceeds overseas and I think then they need to carry on arranging themselves.

It’s not that the haters are unhinged, it’s more about the fact that these two clowns have thrown missiles at the RF, Britain and their entitlement has been off the scale! Didn’t Megain wear expensive dresses and I recall one being £100k, if that’s not grotesque gorging on the public purse then I don’t know what is! People get angry, and are perfectly entitled to this and to vent, it’s not unhinged, it’s just people seeing how disgusting their antics and entitlement is … and let’s not forget the lies

I don’t understand why Harry didn’t prepare her more. He would’ve known that his kids wouldn’t be prince and princesses whilst the Queen was alive, should’ve warned her about the protocol when meeting his brother and sister in law etc. I don’t understand why he didn’t prepare her.

Do you honestly think an intelligent woman like Meghan who went to a top university in the USA didn’t know the rules about titles

She’s not an idiot
A simple query would have answered this
Why do you think she pretended there was another reason ?

MiceSpiders · 20/08/2026 22:18

I just don't understand how the UK was too dangerous for her and the children 2 weeks ago, causing her to change travel plans last minute and cancel public engagements, but now they are moving here and enrolled in schools. Has the threat disappeared?

I don't have a strong opinion about either of them but they do seem to make a lot of noise for a couple who don't want public attention

All this.

ClassyLass · 24/08/2026 19:16

Not a royalist - very neutral on it but I think MM is disliked because she comes across as someone who lies for attention, gaslights, petty and inauthentic. She took the piss out of the Queen during an interview, much to Harry's discomfort and she butts into his conversations when she's not included to make herself seen and heard in addition to saying she wants privacy but always talking about herself and teasing pics of the children. In addition to all of that, they have their photos taken at grave sites etc but want us to believe paparazzi hangs out behind trees at the grave site waiting for them to coincidentally pass by during their time of peaceful reflection in solitude.

It's a bit much!

Screamingabdabz · 20/08/2026 22:32

Her record of lying, bullying, self regarding narcissism and disrespect to the late queen and royal family is plain to anyone who has eyes and watched any of their tortured woe-is-me content. Even South Park parodied it. If you don’t understand perhaps that reflects more on you.

Oh give over respect is earned not titled.

HelenaWilson · 24/08/2026 19:46

Oh give over respect is earned not titled.

Basic good manners towards your husband's father and elderly grandparents should be automatic, not something that needs to be 'earned'.

But if it does need to be earned, that goes both ways - what did she do to earn anyone's respect?

I need context for your comment? If you mean the royal family are worth if opprobrium as that's what they've earned I agree

Everyone complaining about criticism of Harry and Meghan fail to recognize that many feel they’ve earned it.

I can see that people think they've earned it.

Yes I wonder why they are caused such high level criticism compared to behaviour of other royals?

They're privileged moaners obviously but at least they seem to have a certain awareness of the artificially I flated life they lead which is more than the other royals do.

The fact we even have a continued royal family in Thai day and age is ridiculous but the level of criticism levelled at a couple who just dared not to fall in line is ridiculous

Agree. Harry is just, imo demonstrating what all of them are like. Without the massive PR machine surrounding Harry he's shown himself up to be completely out of touch. I suspect he's not unusual. He's just unusual to have not realised that's all he is- a handshaker. The rest of them know full well that everything they have is because they were born into the right family and they would not make it in the outside world.

rocklivia · 24/08/2026 20:17

Interesting that you bring up the Thai monarchy. Now that is one serious monarchy.

Maybe, like most people, she thought it was a pile of nonsense

allthiscarryon · 24/08/2026 20:28

Of course she should worry, and Harry should worry and his multi millionaire father should pay for their security. He’s at risk because of the family he was born in to.
If Charlie can afford to help out his paedo brother and all those hangers on, he can make sure his son and grand kids are safe.

HelenaWilson · 24/08/2026 20:30

Maybe, like most people, she thought it was a pile of nonsense

Which brings us back to the issue of manners.

You might not agree with the way some things are done in another family or another culture, but if you're going to be part of that family or that culture, you respect their customs.

HelenaWilson · 24/08/2026 20:32

He’s at risk because of the family he was born in to.

Why is he more at risk than anyone else who was born into that family?

Because he's a twat who boasted about his kills in Afghanistan for one thing ? What an arsehole.

I don't think any of them are capable of reading the public room but if Harold had any public sensitivity at all he wouldn't have been referring to a £5m security tab he expects the public to pick up as 'a drop in the ocean'.

Did you read Spare?

He was making the opposite point that current warfare with technology means you are removed from the actual act of killing. He likened it to playing chess. He said you had to develop that mentality to get the job done.

He was saying he wasn’t proud and he wasn’t guilty either. That he did his job,

I don’t think that constitutes boasting?

I agree with this point CathyorClaire

But, being facetious, if Republic’s estimate is accurate based on previous years, and the total annual cost of the monarchy is £510 million, with security forming the single largest part of that figure, then £5 million is technically a relatively small figure in comparison 😀

I don’t really like her but she and the Children need some protection . Harry was paying privately in the States why can’t he do that here?

Because he wants armed protection and only the police can give them that.

I think they wholly lack awareness. Meghan had someone announce her as she walked into a room for an interview in NYC. Is that a sign of awareness?
