To think Meghan Markle has every right to worry about her security?

I’m not a monarchist and haven’t really taken much notice of the whole saga, but obviously do know the main points.

However, the comments across Mumsnet and multiple newspapers and websites are absolutely insane and unhinged. People who don’t know them insisting she’s leaving Harry and the kids, is controlling him, that they’re skint and tge
kids will have to go to state school if Charles doesn’t pay, people saying they hope a random stranger sees her and gives her ‘some home truths’.

It is absolutely crackers and I worry about the sanity of the people who seem to really believe they know them.

Oh the irony of this comment. Many posters who defend H & M, or at least question the volume of negativity towards them, are subject to personal comments and are questioned about their intelligence or even their right to even comment in the first place.

And yes I have seen posters openly saying they loathe or detest them, which in my book are good synonyms for hate.

Also the sheer volume of posts does imho amount to hate when it is out of all proportion to what they have supposedly done. General criticism is fine of course but when posters create long-running ongoing threads for the sole purpose of raking through every detail of their lives, claiming to know every single one of their inner intentions and motivations, yes that does amount to hatred and it is unhinged.

A good example is their recent visit to the UK. Meghan didn’t appear in public or comment while she was here and yet thousands of nasty comments appeared about her and her children. That also constitutes hate in my book.

And when negative biased articles appear almost every day in the DM and in other leading media sites, and every washed up royal commentator, as a pp wisely said below, is using negative comment against H and M, to revitalise their income streams, that also constitutes hate.

Especially as this negative rhetoric plays straight in to the hands of certain readers of said right wing racist populist press who love a pile on and to jeer and sneer at articulate confident mixed race or black females who they don’t perceive as “sufficiently subservient” and that also constitutes hate in my book too

Well the simple answer to this is not to read any of it. You can ignore it and scroll by.

I wholeheartedly agree. There is a lot of weaponisation of mental health /illnesses being used as an insult towards those who disagree with their opinion. It’s lazy, childish and used by those who either think it’s 2020 when people might have believed these ridiculous statements or by those who have simply run out of road in their arguments so resort to petty insults.

I agree with you, using these mental health jibes? it's offensive. If you don't agree with something, if you challenge H&M you have a mental illness? That's such an unpleasant approach, much repeated on here, unfortunately.
Edited for clarity.

Just as the haters, and I use that word deliberately, can choose to pause and think before starting yet another thread, or another post criticising them, Meghan’s pregnancies, their parenting, their motivations that that can’t possibly know about…

And they can choose to not read another article written in the same vein…. Or not listen to another jeering podcast.

Many haters are gullibly taking in this huge volume of comment that is largely made for financial reward and are reproducing it on sm sites without asking themselves the question is this reasonable, sane, or proportionate?

EricTheHalfASleeve · 23/08/2026 14:54

What is the royal security cut off? Do Beatrice & Eugenie or Zara get security? I genuinely have no idea. The Windsor's are a rich family - the intelligence service should monitor threats to all of them but I don't see why the taxpayer should pay for security for all of them - there needs to be a cut off. Only providing security for official engagements seems reasonable.

Your last sentence is correct. There is only taxpayer funded security for the King and Queen, and the Prince and Princess of Wales. Anne, Edward and Sophie only get it when they do official royal duties. Beatrice, Eugenie, Zara etc get nothing.

Rubbish and so is your use of the word haters. So 2020

To clarify you are classing everyone who starts a thread or contributes to a thread where there is criticism of Meghan and Harry a " hater" ?

AnitaCam · 23/08/2026 15:54

I’m waiting for a comedy skit on how to avoid racism while cooking and the pitfalls of haters in the coffee shop. Where’s Paul Whitehouse when you need him. Maybe Harry Enfield could print à leaflet.

No, the tide hasn't turned in fact, on here I think it has got worse. The number of horrible insults and names she is called is unbelievable. Look at the long running thread about her and him, it's up to no. 29. That's 28,000+ posts and it is not balanced in any way. The regulars on there make it their life's work to disparage her, on and on. I reported a revolting post the other day, it wasn't deleted, mnhq said it was just an opinion. No other famous person on this forum could be called that and not have their post deleted. It has become a UK mindset for some people.

I think the hate has got worse. The less Meghan does, the worse it gets. People work themselves up into a complete frenzy about her and it will only take one batshit unhinged person to take it further and the media feeds it. I listened to Angela Levin and read Dickie Arbiter yesterday, they were almost frothing at the mouth.

Ahh I should’ve said I have the Royal Family board muted so I probably don’t see the worst of it!

The hate is bizarre - I genuinely don’t understand it. I think it makes us Brits look backwards. There’s nothing quite like plebs being so subservient that they’ll take personal offence at those who offend their masters.

It’s embarrassing.

hahabahbag · 23/08/2026 16:12

Couldn’t care less about her but the obsession with security (when you’re from gun crazy America) and entitlement is off the scale. Princess Anne’s kids manage to live private lives and no tax payer money… why can’t H&M. Perhaps just knuckle down and work

I will openly say I hate liver. That’s not my entire personality. I am not a hater because I have a negative position on liver.

I also dislike HAM, I think they are inauthentic, disingenuous and have used their position and money to benefit no one but themselves.
But if they weren’t all over the press/TV/ social media I wouldn’t be discussing them.

Interesting that slagging off Trump on non policy matters doesn’t make you a “hater”. You can poke fun at his hair, skin colour, stupid mannerisms, general speech and be considered absolutely right thinking.

No it doesn’t at all. It means we call out entitled behaviour and lies and not tug on our foreloc just because a member of the RF says it so.

That won’t quite be true - the minor royals may get security if a specific threat has been identified.

"may.....if"?
Yes, like anyone else who has received a threat.
Don't twist it.
The non working royals do not get taxpayer funded security as a matter of course

Most odd.
How many times do people have to explain that no, Beatrice, Eugenie, Zara and Peter etc don't get taxpayer funded security as a matter of course?
Is it to buoy up the claims of H&M, do you suppose?.

That’s a Really good point about Trump.. there is literally so much ‘ hate’ directed at absolutely everything about him! The hypocrisy of calling anyone à hater.. when you routinely deride him for his hair, size, health, clothes etc etc etc…

I feel as though the penny just dropped for me and I see the language they use is a reflection of their own responses. They see ‘ hate’ everywhere, because they feel it so much themselves.

omg.

I think you might be on the wrong board, this one was asking if M deserved state funded security. The people saying no they are very rich and should pay for their own. How is that being subservient to their masters.
