AIBU to use the toilet while my husband is showering?

Don't know what topic you'd put this under but picture this scenario - one bathroom in the house, husband is in the shower, you're suddenly desperate for the toilet - what do you do?

OP posts:

No1 fairly regularly. No2 is a no!

My husband and I go to the loo infront of eachother if one’s Having a shower. He’s literally seen everything anyway, when your husband has seen you poo yourself while giving birth on all fours screaming and he’s at the business end, you just don’t care anymore!

I think under exceptional circumstances you should avoid it. It would annoy me if my DH was constantly pissing while I was trying to have a bath or shower.

Why do you need to "try" to shower or bath? How hard can it be?

CinderellaGotOld · 16/08/2026 21:56

With two young kids who do not consider the toilet door any barrier to getting to me when I’m in there, all sense of privacy has pretty much disappeared so I’m pretty immune to it - would have no issues with a no 1 in front of him. Will try and poo in peace though!

PollyBell · 16/08/2026 21:58

I would have gone before the shower

Snippit · 16/08/2026 22:02

My SIL will have a dump whilst her husband is in the bath 🤢 absolutely vile, hubby and myself were horrified. Before we moved and had another loo, if I was desperate for a wee when he was in the shower I’d ask him to turn his back.

likeitshard · 16/08/2026 22:02

Wee - yes
poo - no

I wouldn’t flush though

greengreengrass3 · 16/08/2026 22:03

A quick wee, I wouldn’t even bat an eye lid but that’s as far as is exceptable for either of us, we have more toilets then people so wouldn’t ever be a thing for us anyway.

summater · 16/08/2026 22:04

Well, I don't think I would sit there and have a good shit

NotAnotherScarf · 16/08/2026 22:08

I think everyone is missing the point, it's not ones or twos, but did you flush. If so you burnt his nuts and he's got every right to be pissed off

Goldengirl123 · 16/08/2026 22:10

Wee yes, poo no

Cherrysoup · 16/08/2026 22:11

Wee, yes, poo, hell no, he’s trapped in the shower, most unfair unless you have a medical issue. I certainly wouldn’t flush, this changes the temperature and might scald/freeze him.

Disturbia81 · 16/08/2026 22:12

Wee of course but anyone who does a poo while their partner is in the same room is fucking gross.

How on earth can he find her attractive after that 😷

ISpyNoPlumPie · 16/08/2026 22:15

This is totally fine in my marriage. Both ways, any toileting option. We like to chat!! From discussing with friends I have realised that this is quite unusual and I guess it’s lucky we found each other 😁

gamerchick · 16/08/2026 22:18

There are no locks on our doors. Mine wouldn't care.
I do have 2 bogs though, so doesn't come up.

OpenGoose · 16/08/2026 22:22

Another person here who likes to chat while each other are on the toilet, it doesn't really bother us. If it's a disgusting smelling poo I'd probably tell him so and laugh before leaving but otherwise don't really care

2Rebecca · 16/08/2026 22:28

We ask if the other needs the loo before shower/ bath but generally don’t have long showers anyway. I would knock and ask him to get out but would feel stupid if just needing a wee and I don’t have a UTI

BeaLola · 16/08/2026 22:30

In answer to your question I would go in

we have 3 toilets in the house, if I could (wasn’t desperate) I would use the other uostairs one or downstairs one but if desperate straight into en-suite

JudgeJ · 16/08/2026 22:31

NovemberMorn · 16/08/2026 19:13

In a one-bathroom/toilet house, needs must.

I would be more concerned if husband needed the loo whilst I was in the bath or shower.

Double standards...Yes, I admit it.😏

He could pee in the garden if it were urgent!

lulubalu · 16/08/2026 22:46

Another 'post & run' thread - whilst we all debate whether we would or wouldn't or if it's a number 1 or 2, meanwhile OP is.....tumbleweed...
when do the schools go back again?

ilovepixie · 16/08/2026 22:48

My partner and I always used the toilet in front of each other.

BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation · 16/08/2026 22:51

MadCattery · 16/08/2026 19:47

DH and I always shower together. Our shower is large enough and we had it retrofitted with a central "rainfall" shower head. I use the toilet before, or if necessary, after.

What? The two of you always shower together? That is very far from normal.

In threads like this, there are always people who come along and imply that anyone who does not want to piss and shit in front of their other half, is in some way uptight. Actually, I just prefer being able to get on with things without an audience. I'm the same if I'm cooking; I don't want people coming in and chatting or sticking their head in the fridge.

This. ^ I think it's weird as hell to shit in front of your partner, IDGAF if he's seen you give birth or if you have sex regularly, it's WEIRD. No-one needs an audience when they're having a shit. As has been said, a wee is fine, but not a shit.

And I also HATE it when my DH comes into the kitchen whilst I'm preparing/cooking dinner. He can't understand why, and says he's just coming in for a 'chat.' He can't understand that he is getting in my way and irritating the fuck out me. 'But I'm only standing here, I'm not in the way.' YES YOU ARE!

I am cooking/working/doing a chore. We can chat when we're having our evening meal. I can't bear being badgered and him hanging around in the kitchen when I'm doing dinner. And also, I enjoy the half hour or so it takes to cook dinner on my own with my MP3 player. When he comes in and just stands there expecting me to talk to him whilst I'm preparing dinner, it really pisses me off! And as I said, he gets in the way!

tl;dr the OP has not been back to the thread since their first post, so I think people should stop continuing talking about toilet habits/shitting.

There are! They’re not wrong though. I AM uptight. In almost 30 years together I have yet to piss, poop or fart in front of DH. I have a decent pelvic floor and will literally bear any amount of discomfort to avoid this. We still have a healthy sex life but there is absolutely no communal loo-ing. It is probably the only area of life where I am uptight but I am resolutely twee about the wee. No idea why
