Yes he does. He deserves time with us. New smells. New sights. New experiences. Swimming in the sea. It’s memories for him.

And what about unseen dirt? If you swabbed your bed it would be full of bacteria. Dogs roll about in dirt, eat poo, don’t get washed from one week’s end to the next, shed, are covered in that weird grease. Just because there aren’t active shit stains in your bed doesn’t mean it isn’t filthy!

100% agree. I cringe going to a dog-owner’s home, knowing that a dog’s dirty arse and bollocks have been all over the sofa I’m sitting on. Dog owners’ houses are invariably very questionable hygiene-wise.

It’s just the most incredible cognitive dissonance.

If the dog was dirty it would be gross to have it sleep in your bed.

But they want it to sleep in their bed (for some reason, I think it’s a bit bizarre)

Easier then to change your thinking and decide that the dog isn’t dirty after all!

I don’t like dogs and would never allow a dog into my home even for an hour. I had a close family member who wanted to call in at mine, en route somewhere with their 2 dogs, and expected that the dogs could come inside. No way! The dogs had to stay in the car while the humans had a cup of tea inside.

Incredibly rude to turn up somewhere expecting to stay with a dog. Get your husband to pre-empt their arrival by texting his brother asap to remind him you don’t allow dogs in the house. Then they can choose to go straight home or find a dog-friendly hotel room.

And that’s fine! You are more than welcome to do that.
But this thread isn’t about you and your dog. It’s about the OP’s situation. She didn’t know they were bringing their dog. It is not her responsibility to check if they’re bringing their dog. It is their responsibility to check that it’s ok to bring their dog. How can anyone argue against that?

I don’t know any bad dog owners. My friends love their dogs. If they didn’t they wouldn’t be my friends

The dog owner delusion. No your house is not clean. And having a dog in your bed is disgusting. And downright weird.

Personally I’d rather spend time with my dog over the woods then a doggy breakfast in out local dog friendly cafe with other like minded people than sit in a house knowing my dog is not welcome.

It is funny that bad dog owners always bring up children when trying to defend dog behaviour. They have no other standalone argument!

I know 🤣, every day of my dog’s life is a bloody holiday. Not like she’s working to pay the bills!

Mine is, my dog sleeps in my bed,all my bedding sets are white and are still as white as the day I bought it. My house is cleaner than houses ive been in with no dogs!

The way some people are talking on this thread it’s as if we should be automatically checking with anyone we invite to our homes which members of their menagerie they are intending to bring with them so we can bend of backwards to turn our house into a zoo

Because there are lots of situations that are wholly inappropriate for dogs and it’s not normal to feel like you need an animal at your side to be able to go about your daily activities - do you need support with your mental health? This sort of behaviour creates dogs that “can’t” be left.

Oh and the obvious reason - people don’t want it there a lot of the time!

Again… the OP didn’t know they were bringing the dog. It is not the host’s responsibility to check if they’re bringing the dog. It is the dog owner’s responsibility to check that the host is ok with them bringing the dog.
Basic manners.

As said my family and friends know I have a dog. They also know I’ll bring him. He’s well behaved and friendly. House trained. If for any reason they don’t want me to bring him they would say. Never have tho. Most of my friends have dogs. All my friends love dogs. We have multiple birthday parties every year for our dogs. We hire enclosed spaces and swim days for our dogs. If the OP doesn’t want the dog there then grow some balls and tell them

Why should I. Iv seen so many well behaved dogs in pubs and cafes which is more than I can say about children. When I say to my dog sit and stay. He stays. Then I see parents letting their kids run around screaming and yelling. Naaaa. I’d much rather have a dog in my house than a child

Yes, you are of course more than welcome to take your dog with you. That’s your decision.
That doesn’t change the fact that if you plan to take your dog to someone else’s house, you check with them that they’re ok for you to take your dog. That’s just very, very basic manners and I’m surprised anyone is trying to argue against it.
I have a dog. I would never take it to someone else’s house without checking that they’re ok with that. Basic manners.
