AIBU to worry about taking enough sunscreen in cabin luggage?

I’d put them in swimwear that covers a decent amount of skin. Rashvest and shorts or similar. It is a massive pain having to apply sun cream constantly and however hard you try you are always likely to miss bits.

When you go through security everyone queues together so it's irrelevant which airline you're flying with

As has already been said, it's 2 litres maximum at Gatwick and there are also plenty of supermarkets in Crete

People questioning why only cabin bags for a family have obviously never known the freedom of carry on only. Everything from packing is a lot quicker (at the start and end of the holiday) to being able to go straight to security to avoid the queues at check in and not having to wait for luggage at the end. It’s a real game changer for how relaxed travel days are.

OP a few tips that may help. I bought some of those thin but very absorbent Hammam towels that are very thin. I use as many toiletries in solid form as possible (deodorant, facial wash, shampoo bars, etc) and prioritise decent minis for the rest (serum, moisturiser, etc). The kids don’t need much other than suncream and shampoo so I use their liquid allowance too… Buy suncream at the airport. Also take travel wash. Pack super light clothes that dry easily, especially for the kids (my son is the messy one and we take a bunch of quick drying sports wear for the daytimes). Wear your most bulky footwear (gym shoes usually for me) and carry a light jacket if you think you’ll need one.

After years of over packing we mainly do carry on only now and we don’t run out of stuff. Only exceptions are skiing (although we may try this next tiime).

I’ve travelled twice to Europe with easyJet this summer, from Gatwick, and as others have said - the 100ml rule doesn’t apply there anymore. They have special scanners and will test anything in those that they want to check (they did this with some of my liquids, not all). This doesn’t apply to the return journey so be prepared to have shampoo , shower gel bottles etc removed of you’re travelling home with them

OP just to check when you say 'cabin luggage only' do you mean the standard small bag, or have you paid extra for the larger cabin case? Because the small bag is very small, but if you have a larger bag each, that will be enough.

Buying toiletries there is fine if you go to a proper supermarket, so Lidl, Aldi or a local proper supermarket, not Spar or a beachside convenience store, because this is where suncream is very expensive, can be poor quality and is often left out in the sun all day. So don't buy it from there.

And don’t forget to encourage them to wear an old tee shirt when playing in the sun……doesn’t matter if it gets wet but will protect their delicate skin.

Yes go to boots after security as others have said. Also long sleeved swimsuits and swim caps are a must.. not only do they save you time and money on suncream but they are much safer and you know they are all covered up. I saw soooo many little ones with regular swimming costumes or even just bottoms on our last holiday .. why do that to their skin at this age?!

You can pre order things to collect from Boots in Airport locations after security so that it doesn't affect the 100ml limit.

@MissingPiecess you can do click and collect at Boots after security. I like Soltan suncream so would do this - their kids swim factor 50 is very good.
People take way too much stuff on holiday - your plan is good. Do take rash vests / swimming t shirts too. Hardly take up any space and really work - my teens still wear theirs in the sea to stop getting burned by reflected sun.

The security rules are set by the airport not the airline. Gatwick have lifted restrictions so you are not limited to 100ml containers. EasyJet probably still say 100ml because that’s still the limit in many airports. You just won’t be able to bring it back with you (unless you take some empty 100ml containers to decant any remaining lotion for the return flight.)

The liquids rule is with the airport security, not your airline! You also need to check the rules at your departure airport coming home as they might not be the same so anything you take out with you, can't necessarily come back.
But for buying suncream just buy it in Boots at Gatwick once you're through security.

Just buy it in Boots in Gatwick. That’s what I do. Simple. Job done. Don’t over complicate.

Why in earth are you stressing about taking enough sunlotion. I just take what I can to get me through the first couple of days and then go to the supermarket to buy more. Its not necessarily more expensive.

Those of you relying on Boots need to check before you go that it's still there.

I've been caught out twice now because they've closed the Boots at one of the terminals at Manchester and Liverpool airport, so I don't know if they're pulling out of other airports too (don't know why because an airport Boots, like a WH Smith, must do really well).

Fill up numerous little bottles. You don't need as much as you think though.

I go to Crete regularly and their supermarkets are very well stocked with sunscreen, many the same brands as you buy here. They also have pharmacies which sell it as well as tourist shops near the beaches.

I’d also recommend uv suits if you don’t have them instead of regular swimming costumes.
My children are very fair and especially when smaller they used to wear them, they are very thin so don’t take up much space in bags, dry really quickly and then you only have to worry about applying cream on the bits not covered which in our case was the elbow to the wrist at knee and knee to foot.
It will cut down on the amount of cream you use and ease your mind. Most come with hats with neck protectors as well.
