AIBU to worry about taking enough sunscreen in cabin luggage?

and as you can see, it is actually cheaper on Crete.
Of course, it depends if you have access to a proper shopping centre or if you have to buy from a small local supermarket where it will doubtless be more expensive than somewhere like the Hondos Center.

I suggest that if you can’t handle this, you might not be ready to take them away.

The liquids rules are for the airport, not the airline. You can take your sunscreen through Gatwick no problem. You may not be able to bring back and leftover bottles depending on the rules at the airport you’re flying home from.
However if you don’t have much space in your hand luggage just buy it when you get there. Avoid the small stores where the suncream display is old and dusty or in glaring sunlight all day but other than that it’s perfect fine to buy there.

Do you have rash tops and board shorts or other sun safe swim wear for your children - much better protection and you’ll use less sunscreen.

Crete is in the EU so any sun screen you buy there will be the same standard as any other EU country and the UK.

You're overthinking because it's a new experience and you're not sure what to expect. Just buy a bottle when you've gone past airport security and another bottle when you're out there, job done.

Have you already booked your bags? My friend and I shared a large hold bag as it was cheaper than 2 cabin bags & I could take tons of sunscream.

You have mentioned the small amount you are bringing in hand luggage and focused on sun cream which you can easily buy there. You haven't mentioned medication some of which you will not be able to get there. I hope you are bringing a bottle of calpol or nurofen. You won't get those in Crete.

Once your through security you can buy stuff from boots. I always take a spare Canvas tote bag and stock up on toothpaste, suncreams, shampoo etc...
Also, you can buy everything out there.
If you're really worried buy a CeraVe stick solaire and pop it in your pocket. It's like a lip balm. My kids will apply this without fuss.

The first time I ever went abroad the strength of the sun was a shock. Make sure your kids have sunglasses and long sleeve rash vests. You can also get full body rash suits. I'd really recommend you consider them if you think you'll be spending hours at the beach. Lots of young kids wearing them on our holiday in France last year.

Edited to say I got my son's rash vests from Amazon - I like the ones with the zip neck, easier to get on and off. Mountain Warehouse and other similar shops also sell them. Will mean a lot less suncream needed!

I am going to suggest, and I mean this in a kind way, OP. You're feeling stressed about the holiday and SPF is the focus. Everyone sort of saying 'don't be daft' doesn't help because if it wasn't the suncream it would be the boarding passes or the phone roaming or something... I get terrible diarreah on travel days and it's always stress!

I regardless of liquid limit, OP you will likely spend way more money buying stuff then taking 1 cabin bag. Surely you will have to buy beach / pool toys, and what about other toys, book etc, kids will want some stuff to do!

Put them in the pool in a T shirt, or a special sun suit.....far less faff than constantly reapplying sun cream.

You can pre order from boots and pick it up once you get through security. Also the rules at Gatwick let you take more anyway so you can just take more/ bigger bottles.

I would definitely buy sun cream before I go. I’ve found them much more expensive once there (especially turkey) and you don’t know how long they’ve been sitting there.

I don't have an issue waiting for my luggage at the other end, the transfer bus isn't going to go without me. I need specific toiletry brands and I buy these in the run up to the holiday to spread the cost. I dont want to spend my holiday washing clothes either. Just back from Tunisia with easyJet and 23kg hold luggage is included in the cost anyway to

You're being incredibly rude to so many posters.
We've just been to Crete for two weeks, 2 adults and one DC we took 3 23kg suitcases, no idea why you're trying to do it with one hand luggage case, probably too save money except it won't if you're buying everything at the airport. Also hand washing knickers in holiday isn't my idea of fun. Surely it'll be cheaper and easier to buy one standard suitcase allowance and share it.
FWIW Crete is not a third world country, they have plenty of sun cream.

To be fair, you have asked what other people do, and other people take hold cases!

You can take more through security, you can buy it after security, and you can buy it there - it will be more expensive. That’s your options if you’re not taking hold luggage.

rash vests are a good idea too, little ones need covering up not just sunscreen.

You’re going to need insect repellent too.
You can buy it all when you get through security, but as others have said, the 100ml limit has been lifted at Gatwick.
Airlines don’t set the rules, the airports do. EasyJet’s instructions will be generic because they fly from multiple different cities and not all airports have lifted the limit yet, but Gatwick has, so no worries.

Gatwick have got rid of 100ml rule as many other posters have said already so no need to buy at airport. Easyjet may say 100ml as a blanket advice for all airports as only a few have so far abandoned the 100ml. But Easyjet are not the ones scanning your bags, airport security are. Boots soltan range is very good.

Surely it would have been easier to just pay for one hold suitcase. Then you can have taken all your toiletries etc and a few extra outfits for everyone. Very wasteful buying toiletries over there then chucking them as you can’t bring them back with you.

Also can’t always use hotel towels at the beach
