To just want it to be autumn now?

But those temperatures are not unusual at night during a UK summer! It’s the UK not Qatar 😆

Last night was far too cold to be sitting outside a restaurant at 11pm - there was no one on those tables! And we weren’t anywhere particularly touristy so the locals as much as the visitors thought it wasn’t warm enough. Also I’m pretty much a local, having lived here my whole life up until a couple of years ago. I just prefer warmer weather. Where we were just before the London leg of our Euro trip, it was 24 degrees at midnight - absolutely lush. 💜

If you live somewhere significantly warmer it’s obviously that your acclimatisation to higher temperatures will mean you perceive the current weather differently to those of us who live here. It’s the same in reverse when we holiday in a much warmer country in February/March. We’re sitting in the sun in T-shirts while the people who live there are bundled up in winter coats. Nobody who lives here needs outdoor heaters right now.

Cooler, yes. Cold, no. I don’t like walking home in 16 degrees after dinner out. That’s no fun. I also love al-fresco dining which it hasn’t been anywhere near warm enough to do (the restaurant we went to did not have outdoor heaters - rookie error for a London restaurant, IMO).

It’s normal for things to be cooler in the night though even in places that are much hotter.

Last night was frigging cold in London. Nightmare. Thank god it’s starting to warm up again. Naturally, we fly home on Sunday before the real warmth gets here. 🤦‍♀️😅

There does seem to be quite a north/south divide. I'm in South Yorkshire and I wore a cardigan and socks yesterday for the first time in ages.

It’s really not. It’s just return I;g close to t(e seasonal average - which is 16 here this morning. Actual is 18. 14 would just be a slightly cooler than average summer morning.
I like the heat but it being at or just below the seasonal average doesn’t make it ‘autumn’ - just the usual slightly rubbish British summer.

I’m so sorry! Family in other parts of the UK say the same - it’s definitely already autumn for them.

I'm on holiday in Northumberland where the temperature has been between 17-21 degrees most of the week - going back to Kent in a few days and it's going to be 31 degrees and similar for the rest of the week. Truly sick of the heat. Watering the whole garden with a can during the hisepipe ban is a nightmare. Worrying about pets in the heat. Would like to go for walks but it's too bloody hot. Household tasks are just horrendous - cleaning and ironing in 30+ degrees, horrific. If I move house in the future then summer heatwaves and likelihood of hosepipe bans will be at the top of my list in terms of location. Roll on Autumn.

It's feeling very autumnal here today - currently 14 degrees.

Try 12 degrees with a feels like 9 degrees in August … now that’s miserable 😢 Mind you, we might get a high of 15. And a gorgeous shade of grey sky.

@AmiacoolorwarmcolourI don’t love the rain but we desperately need it here. I don’t remember actually having that much last yr. I do hate icy pavements & roads but we are lucky to not get too much of that normally.

I don’t like summer anyway, but feels like it’s been summer since May. Pretty relentless heat and now serious drought.

It’s hotting up again from Saturday here but we are visiting family in another part of the country which is cooler, can’t wait!

18 degrees in August is depressing, isn’t it. We’re back in London and that was the temperature last night as we left the theatre. We wanted to mooch around after, but it was no fun walking when it was that cold and windy so we headed back. I’m on my way to the gym this morning and it’s freezing - literally wearing a hoodie. A hoodie in August 😩 I’ve had to change our dinner reservation for tonight to an indoor table. I’ve got no interest in freezing my arse off while socialising. We’ve accepted that we have to put our months of al-fresco dining on hiatus for a few days while we’re here. It’s just all so disappointing - especially knowing that it’s been warmer than this for weeks before our trip.

The only thing that takes the glow out of autumn is that I used to live in a large house with a log burner on the edge of a forest, now I live in a bungalow with a damp problem (still a nice area though)

I've already been eyeing up autumn bunting to stick around my front room, and mood lights. Also some nice new jumpers

I am not looking forward to having to go everywhere in the pouring rain and wind. It’s awful having to walk in wet, windy, weather. Add to that icy pavements and it’s hell. Having to drag out a hat, scarf, big coat and gloves, plus suitable footwear with a 10 inch flaming grip on the soles is depressing. Not to mention the treacherous driving conditions. I nearly broke my neck one early winter day just stepping out of my front door and on to the pavement, it was covered in black ice. How on earth can anyone prefer that to a hot day?
It’s all fine and dandy if you don’t have to commute to work but not if you are forced to go outside.
