I just want to stand in the rain.

I notice with rage that the rain promised for Monday down here in the SE has now literally evaporated. It's actually terrifying, I think. I've seen so many dead and dying trees and this is getting serious.

Love spring, summer and autumn. But this summer can cool down whenever for me! I get up early to do my horses, I'm sweating before I'm even back home. Using a hairdryer is awful. My car is like an oven when I first get in it. I'm sweating at work. Sat in traffic is appalling. Then come home to do my jobs and the heat is relentless.

We're not equipped in this country to deal with these temperatures. We have central heating systems as we're used to being cold. Not a/c systems. It's nice on holiday to jump in the pool and have a lie down in an air conditioned room. I wake up to a fan blowing warm air about 😁

My fields are like concrete and they're yellow/brown not green. I've not travelled my horses in weeks, scrap that, I've barely ridden my horses in weeks. My house is a tip. Also, my hair is extremely hard to handle.

I'm done with it! Give me a nice 20 degrees. Although I will be moaning in January when my fields are either frozen or waterlogged and I'm fed up of layers 😂

I’ve been in another part of the country so not in London and the highest temp we have had has been 26. It’s bliss! 😆

This whole debate is all about personal preference! Some people want autumnal weather and the cosy feeling of sleeping under a blanket (as evidenced by this thread), others like me love hot weather where I can wear a summer dress all day and have dinner outside without feeling cold.

And don’t get me started on how I keep missing the hot weather. 3 separate trips and disappointing weather each time (again, in my opinion). I’ve told DH we’ll be booking last minute next year instead of months ahead.

I’m really not sure what the issue is. I have been unlucky enough to miss the hot days in London and feel disappointed with that. Obviously I shouldn’t have got my hopes up, but I did. There is no denying that we have had a lot more hot weather in Yorkshire than normal this year though - only three heatwaves instead of five. It has been extremely dry, and the grass everywhere is like straw.

I'm sorry you are missing out though. DD lives in Liverpool and during the extremely hot weather it has been hotter there than where we are.

Well upthread you said you were back & forth to London…but I’m not sure why the above means it’s only the odd day that has been 30 degrees & why you know better vs the Met office re heat waves. 🤔

I am in the NW of England and apart from a couple of weeks in June, we have had temps of 18 degrees here, grey and drizzly so I absolutely dont want it to be Autumn as Im waiting for summer to start up again!

So far in 2026, London has experienced significantly above-average temperatures. July was a record breaking month, with a mean temperature of across the whole month, day and night, of 21.8°C - 3.3°C above normal. The average high in July was 28.3°C.
Minimum overnight temperature records for May & June have been broken, showing its not cooling down as much as it usually does.
We have had 5 officially defined by the Met Office heatwaves so far this year, with another forecast for next week from Sunday to Thursday.
There has been no measurable rainfall in my part of SW London since the 2nd week in June.
Across the UK has a whole, there have been 34 days where a weather station has registered a temperature of over 30 degrees. That matches the 1995 record, and will be easily exceeded over the next week.

We have never had a summer where the heat has been as unremitting as this one.

Of course London has had hotter summers! I remember a few years ago it was 30 degrees for weeks on end. I was living in West Hampstead in a flat with a roof terrace and we were out on the terrace every evening. Beautiful summer. I just got my hopes up it would be a repeat of that this summer with all the talk of heatwaves (the odd >30 degrees day here and there does not a heatwave make, in my books) and I’m disappointed, that’s all. 😊

I mean we were there 9pm-11:30pm. Not one person sat outside but the restaurant was heaving inside. Not anywhere particularly touristy and everyone around us was speaking English in English accents.

Most locals would be unlikely to be dining out at 11pm on a Thursday night.
