To ask what age you started cosmetic procedures?

If you have botox, fillers, have had surgical procedures, threads etc.
I'm 35 and have been having crows' feet Botox once or twice a year for a few years, and I've had nasolabial fold filler twice. This seems to be ok for now, I'm trying to hold off on anything else for as long as possible due to cost and not wanting too much maintenance and upkeep with it all.
Eventually I'm sure I'll start to need more though, I know I'm still young and I'm using spf 50 and retinol currently.

So just wondered what sort of age you noticed the biggest changes and started anti ageing treatments? Please no judgement, I know it isn't for everyone.

...and choose your parents.

Yes - good genes help.

I've been given good skin by my parents, which I'm very grateful for. My mum always looked 15 years younger than her age. But she never wore make-up or did anything really.

Not smoking or drinking excessively, drinking water, eating well and keeping out of the sun are really beneficial though.

And I've only ever used cheapo Olay moisturiser which I find perfect. I'm very cynical and sceptical about expensive beauty products. The whole industry is a massive con. The top layers of your skin are pretty dead anyway - all you're doing by putting products on is to make your face feel nice - which is worth doing, but it's all just a very temporary thing.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 01/08/2026 09:27

Im 58.5 and I haven't started any cosmetic procedures, i doubt i will. Ive been dyeing my hair since forever and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

Come on now, what about all the 'slebs who's faces don't move anymore or look weird and smooth and shiny? Can you not see they've obviously had botox (and probably a lot of other unnecessary stuff done).

True point about the celebs. But I think those people have gone well beyond a bit of Botox. I don’t know anyone who has just done Botox who you could be sure about and the more people I’m honest with about having had it the more people I realise have also had it done completely unbeknownst to me.

I think you’re talking fillers and surgery. I was just responding to the Botox comment.

Branster · 01/08/2026 09:30

Although I personally haven’t had fillers or botox or similar injectables (or surgery), by mid 30s you should be on tretinoin and it’s probably a good age to get on with Botox if you wish to do it.
A word of caution, future planning, fillers don’t go well with surgery. So, if you think you might want to have a facelift later on in life, avoid fillers. But also bear in mind the fillers in 20-30 years time will be different or replaced by something else so it might not be an issue.
As a general rule, try and avoid substances which are proven not to dissolve fully as insurance for the future.
Be very mindful of the quality of your skin. It is just as important as smoothness if that is the aim. So skincare products and SPF are the thing to establish by the time you are 40s.
Saying all that, it’s never too late and, most importantly, it is a very personal choice as to what appearance you prefer for yourself and how far you are prepared to go in order to achieve or maintain that. We live in times where developments for skincare procedures are advancing very fast. If they are safe, I don’t see why we shouldn’t use them if we can budget money and time on them.
Peptides injections are revolutionary but not yet available in the UK or EU as far as I know. We’ll all hear about these injections when they become available. So keep an eye out on Current and future developments.

I knew somebody would make this tired joke about women who don't have anything done.

I don't think I look particularly young or great. I think I look ok though, like a 54- year-old is supposed to look.

When I think of the older women I admire in terms of appearance and style I think of Judi Dench, Kate Humble (OK, she's not THAT old, but very natural), Joan Bakewell, Joanna Lumley with her nice, natural wrinkles etc - people like that.

I don't like Hollywood-style looks with blubbery, glossy lips, tight skin, massive boobs etc. I just think the overall effect says 'sad and insecure'.

ShanghaiDiva · 01/08/2026 09:33

Am late fifties and don’t have any cosmetic procedures and don’t intend to start. My hair is also silver.
Two reasons:
I don’t care how old people think I am.
I am more concerned about how my body ages so how much can I lift, am I still flexible, how much weight can I push etc.

corblimeymlud · 01/08/2026 09:34

SunnyRedSnail · 01/08/2026 08:44

So why do you need it then?

What's wrong with looking in your 40s? Looking in your 50s? Looking in your 60s etc...?

You cannot possibly be happy in your own skin if you feel the need to change your appearance.

SPF 50 from a young age will save a lot of damage.

I do think people are obsessed with anti ageing.

You do you, don't know why people feel the need to comment on these threads, OP didn't ask your opinion she asked what age people started!
Plus you can't always tell if it's done well.
I started in my late 30's OP, micro-needling etc, I now have a bit of botox for my frown, skin boosters and microneedling.
I don't wear makeup and my skin looks and feels good, which is what I want, I will never be 20 but I can be the best very late 50's.

When you post on this thread people are going to give their opinion. That's what this thread is for.

Roundthemaypole · 01/08/2026 09:43

pepayfelix · 01/08/2026 08:48

I’m ignoring all the judgemental bollocks. Presumably the people doling out faux concern or outright criticism have never had a haircut, manicure or wax either.

Started baby Botox in my late thirties and carried on ever since. I am considering polynucleotides at some point but for now am happy with my Botox. I still have near full movement in my forehead but my 11s are gone so I still look my old self, hurray.

I've never had a manicure or wax. Have haircuts, but that is somewhat different to injecting a toxin into my muscles to paralyse them.

SunnyRedSnail · 01/08/2026 09:47

Jerrybalanitis · 01/08/2026 08:49

Wow, you just made your frown lines even worse just to knock someone down on the Internet? Get a life. 😆

Rude.

My point is that perhaps the OP should work on their self esteem rather than feeling the need to alter themselves.

emmetgirl · 01/08/2026 09:48

Never. I’m 60 in 2 months

Additup · 01/08/2026 09:49

CoffeeCantata · 01/08/2026 09:22

I would never!

Just keep your weight healthy, eat well, drink water, take exercise and stay toned. Get lots of sleep, stay out of the sun, get a good haircut and dress for style not fashion. Oh - and keep your mind stimulated by being creative or learning new things.

Those are honestly the key things for ageing well.

I totally agree.

Also, as someone up thread said 'People make an assessment of age not only on your face, but on the way you dress, the way you do your hair, how you generally present yourself.'

I'd also add, keep being sociable. Not necessarily a party animal, but just maintaining worthwhile connections with other people, family, friends, partners etc.

I cant imagine how exhausting it must be to be constantly stressing about looking 'old', especially when you're only in your 30s fgs.

Or perhaps, OP should carry on doing whatever the fuck she wants to do with her own face! My car could do with washing, really won’t make the slightest bit of difference if I don’t wash it, but I will do because it looks better. It’s not a self esteem issue to want to look what you consider to be ‘your best’. Some of like to keep on top of that, some of us don’t. Not self esteem, just choices!

MandemChickenShop · 01/08/2026 09:52

Exactly this. Getting a haircut dosent hurt. Injecting toxins into your body will cause damage especially if you do it long period.

PrintPatch · 01/08/2026 09:53

I am 55 and consider myself lucky. For having Asian skin and decent genes and a mum who told me to keep my face out of the sun ;-) So my skin is pretty good. I also like my wrinkles! Esp the ones around my eyes. I also have inner confidence, which comes partly from being a v unattractive child, so I had to get my self-esteem in other ways.

I think it is tougher for younger generations. The social pressure and social media onslaught to try x, y and z is so much greater. Looking old is feared. So I understand why people do what they have to do. And I am sure there is plenty of good ‘work’ that I don’t notice. Apart from lip filler which makes me think caution is needed… My 22y daughter and her friends currently say they won’t use botox ever, but I am aware this could well change.

In an ideal world I don’t think women would feel that they needed to do this stuff. But we are where we are, and I would never criticise an individual for what they choose to do.

I’m 46 and regularly get micro needling and have a number of non invasive procedures with my aesthetician , use spf 50 daily (and have done for about 15 years) use retinol. I get my eye brows micro bladed and a lash lift, for me it’s not just the procedures but everything as well to maintain. So I try to get enough sleep (not great at this) I drink 3L of water a day, but this is also offset with the wine! 😂

My sister (39) got Botox on her face last week and it looks fantastic. She looks ‘refreshed’ I’ve just made an appointment! Not a fan of fillers as I think they look a bit fake, but each to their own.

Do you need to go to the loo frequently with the 3 litres of water every day? Asking as have just been told to drink more…

So you keep on top of it by injecting toxins😏 alrighty then.

OP literally asked if she was being unreasonable. Shes even got the voting enabled.

If that's not inviting opinion - positive and negative - then I dont know what is.

Personally I'll vote YABU for posting this question here, and YABU for starting early on a path that will always leave you unsatisfied with your looks.

Trust me, it's not the patriarchy that makes women do this - but they're happy to rake in your money when you do.

IwanttoWFH · 01/08/2026 10:24

I got Botox and cheek filler when I was 40. Botox for forehead lines and cheek filler as I’d lost volume in my face, due to losing weight.

I have Botox every three months (my body burns through it at an alarming rate).

I’ve also had micro needling with polynucleotides (didn’t notice much difference, as my skin quality is good, so won’t bother again).

I’ll consider Sculptra as and when I need it. I’m not there yet!

I’ll be having little bits as and when I need them.

You don’t need to drink three litres, it’s excessive. Two is more than enough.
