If you have money and privilege, you can do it legally. If you don’t, you generally don’t have that option so if you want to migrate for a better life, then your only option to do so is the illegal route. It’s up to the UK and other countries to determine how to deal with that.

And obviously people applying for asylum are not going to use climate change to support their claim as it’s not an accepted reason to get asylum.

And even if they do want to move here for climate change, if we keep our borders closed, they can’t! It’s that simple! Nobody is going to say they are an economic migrant if they are claiming asylum as they will have zero chance of success. The reality is people have been migrating for economic reasons/to have a better life forever. Climate change has caused a reduction in quality of life for many in the global south. People living there may or may not recognise the cause but they certainly feel the effects.

I work with asylum seekers, never ever ever ever has a claim been made by a person I have ever worked with based on climate change.

People are escaping war and torture and terror. Ideologies, not resource led.

Exactly, I’ve always found the ‘to do the jobs that Brits think are beneath them’ line quite insulting, of course it’s meant to be in the same way lots of left wingisms are. The problem is that Brits are going to be falling over themselves for these jobs within the next 4 years. I can just see so many huge issues over the next few years.

I agree with much of what you say, my concern is that labelling a policy ‘right wing’ has many unpleasant connotations. The Danes, on the right and left, just look at is a policy best for their country. Immigration is an issue that needs removing from the right/left dynamic like Trans rights.

Within the next 10 years, AI is going to decimate lots of jobs. It’s going to be a painful transition for everyone. Take taxi driver/delivery driver jobs ..it’s about 500k people employed in the UK and is around 75% immigrant employees…with 3 years we won’t need them at all (we already have self driving taxis in London). It may go down to say 100k jobs. I don’t see any politicians taking about this.
