AIBU to suggest emailing Andy Burnham about access to women’s toilets?

Aibu to suggest you can email Andy Burnham if you are what he calls one of the “tiny, tiny, tiny number of people” who believe that men including “transgender women” should not be allowed to use women’s toilets.

[email protected]

Perhaps if he gets enough emails he’ll see he is not right.

Can you tell me how many women have been attacked in toilets by the trans community? I’m interested in the statistics.

How many is too many? I happen to think one is too many. And it's not "the trans community" doing this- why would you lump all trans people together like that? Wouldn't that look awfully like transphobia?

There was a trans-identified male who raped a little girl in a supermarket women's toilet (it may have been an ASDA), but can't remember where in the UK exactly. I can imagine it was one too many for that little girl, wouldn't you agree?

Hopefully someone else can find a link to that story, and I know there are offending rates available as well.

Great idea. Will do, thanks OP.

He’s a silly little man - who does he think he is making such ridiculous pronouncements.

For all the thicky mcthickies who keep trotting out this and completely missing the point…

Men as a sex group commit most of the violent and sexual crime.

This is why we have single sex spaces to keep girls and women safe and comfortable in vulnerable places.

We can’t know who the lovely men or the violent men or the pervs are.

The only way to keep females safe is to keep single sex spaces.

I have no problem sharing my toilet with a ‘trans man’ ie a biological female.

The main point is protecting single sex provision. It really isn’t about trans folks. It’s about the propensity of men to harm women.

What do you mean by attacked? Any woman can feel uncomfortable with a man in the next cubicle listening to her pee or masturbating and women should absolutely not have to make accommodations for men in women's spaces. There have been physical attacks by trans identified men in women's toilets.

Gender neutral toilets are also a problem.

Trans identified men have the same pattern of violent and sexual offending as other men. And 99% of sex offenders are male.

My girl was preyed on by trans paedo - ‘woman’ ruling is breath of fresh air

THE mum of a schoolgirl preyed on by a notorious trans paedo in a supermarket loo has hailed the Supreme Court ruling on women as a “breath of fresh air”. Her daughter was only ten when she was pus…

Oh fgs can you ever stop trying to scapegoat a minority group for one day 😒 But yeah, slow clap for forever deflecting attention from people who are an actual danger to women and girls.

So men then? But TW are men. And since when have men been a minority?

Oh come on. The daily mail has been digging for dirt and thats something that they knew would get people frothing. It’s pathetic.

I note you haven’t added the full quote for context and have just pulled out the part of the sentence that fits your narrative.

there's a whole discussion here, including Andy Burnham's full statement and videos, etc., here, if you are genuinely interested:

Is Andy Burnham reasonable to say only a small minority of women object to men being in their toilets? YABU he's right, YANBU he's wrong *titled tweaked by MNHQ at OP's request* | Mumsnet

Why is it scapegoating to say males should use the male facilities? They are NO DIFFERENT than any other men. They are the same risk to us.

But if it’s not a big issue, then why aren’t these men ok in the male toilets? If TWAW, as some people claim, and women are fine with sharing with men (as others claim), then surely TW will be perfectly fine sharing with men? So they can go in the men’s with no drama, and those women wanting and needing single sex spaces can have them. It’s a win for all

BridgetPhillipsonIsACowardlyJobsworth · 20/05/2026 21:48

Anyway, the law is clear about biological sex and single-sex spaces, and the official guidance from the Equality and Human Rights Commission is being published tomorrow, so any arguments to the contrary are academic. Andy Burnham will have to sway whichever way the wind is blowing, and that wind is blowing in the direction of women's rights.

^ this. It’s so tedious when there are real, imminent threats to women and girls.

I think it’s of great importance. But MEN are the biggest threat to the safety of women and girls, not trans people. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a bigoted, narrow-minded transphobe

Exactly. It’s men who need to stay out of women’s single sex spaces, trans identifying or not. Glad you agree. Men.

Transwomen ARE men. The reason we keep men out of female spaces apply equally to them.

Oh christ OP have a day off. There are people dying and the cost of living is eroding us all.

I assume you’re also saying this to people campaigning to erode single sex spaces? I mean, if it’s a non issue for women, surely it’s a non issue for them too?

Would you include an elderly woman who wanted a female carer (not a man who thinks he is a woman, or a man who presents himself as a woman, or any man at all who says he is a woman) - would you include this elderly woman in the category of "bigoted transphobe?"

Transwomen (trans-identified men) are biological men. This fact doesn't change no matter how they dress, present, or whether or not they have any surgery.

This was a while ago pre debate about this. We have learned more over the last few years.

Have we learned that he has changed his mind about this issue?

I don't have a problem with transgender people. I have a trans-identified family member and we get along just fine, although I don't agree with the reasoning behind it.

What I want, and what I have a right to insist upon, is no male people of any presentation or ilk in lawful, female single-sex spaces (not just toilets, but also medical and care situations, etc.)

This matters to me. You clearly don't care, but if your elderly mother wanted a female carer for intimate care and was refused this because it made her a "bigot", my guess is you would change your tune pretty quickly.

I entirely support protections for trans people.

There is no contradiction between that and thinking that single sex spaces should be single sex spaces
