But yes, if you have AB blood (A and B alleles being co-dominant and your husband has type O blood, your children have a 50:50 chance of AO or BO alleles - type A or type B blood.

SweetChilliGirl · 12/04/2026 15:57

Nothingeverlastsforever · 09/04/2026 12:33

I think (from biology long ago) that type O is recessive? But much more common? So if person 1 has type O and person 2 has type A, then the child would have type A?

I am AB (mum and dad had A/B) and DH is O, so I think my DC will either be A or B.

if that makes sense!

Everyone has two alleles for each gene expressing blood type. Type A blood can either be from AA alleles or AO as A is dominant and O is recessive. So if one parent is AO and one OO a child could either be AO or OO - 50:50 chance. If the parent with type A blood has AA alleles all children from a AA/OO cross will have AO alleles and type A blood.

It’s not a huge deal, but many years ago I went on a skiing holiday with my best friend and her Mum. We were about 18, so her Mum was late 30s.
Thinking back, her Mum was quite unhappily married to her Dad, who was a nice enough man, but never wanted to do anything - wouldn’t go on holiday, didn’t want to go out etc.
There was a gorgeous young ski instructor - maybe mid 20s and we thought he was fabulous. One night my friend had got off with a bloke at the apres ski disco and I decided to walk back to our room (I was sharing with my friend). As I rounded the corner of the hotel, my friend’s Mum was outside having a passionate snog with the ski instructor.
I snuck past, didn’t say anything and have never mentioned it to anyone. Her Mum has since divorced and is with a new partner (not the ski instructor!).

Does the child not resemble the sperm donor?

No idea as have never seen or met him. I haven’t seen the child IRL for about 8 years but in photos he looks like his Mum. I think we often see what we expect to see too.

Just name changed for this as it’s still raw.

Our close neighbour and friend of 20 years didn’t die of the terminal cancer he had, but by taking his own life. I knew he was probably going to and didn’t do anything to stop him. I’m glad he took back some control at the end. He was only 46.

I would agree with you, he took control and he has that right.

I suppose you have to admire the green credentials here because if I wanted to really hide that I was drinking vodka at that rate, I would smash the bottles in a newspaper, roll it all up and wang it in the normal trash.

You’ve put a lot of thought into it! Grin

She’s putting 3 empty spirits bottles in a neighbour’s bin just before pick up, rather than her own and not as an isolated thing. That’s a classic alcoholic’s attempt to hide the evidence.

My sister’s son is the result of a long running affair with her business partner. Both of them are married. Neither spouse knows. She often takes her son to meet her business partner and his children in the park.

Does he? Is not having any contact at all with his own child " his best?"

Well clearly a bit of a knob, so it probably is for the best. Hes coughing up and allowing the mum to compensate for his willynillyness at least

But why couldn’t you tell people that in real life? It’s not like it’s a secret.

Because in his very public facing business some clients can get funny about anything they percieve as possibly having a negative image. That isn't just theoretical, it has actually happened since years ago.

Not me but my DH. Back in the 90s he had a part time job in an area he was interested in. The job came to an end when the boss was arrested. It turned out he was a serial killer and is currently serving a whole life tariff in jail.

I don't want to give to many as it would be outing. But the killer was Peter Moore.

A male colleague at work has chatted up and messaged about 50% of the female staff, sometimes offering dick pics, even the lesbians arent safe, "maybe mine will change your mind" 🙄
He got married last year, wife works at our company, utterly clueless to what a turd this man is, unless that's why she downs a bottle of wine a night 🤔
He steals from the company, sweets and chocolate from peoples desks, toilet rolls etc. The director in charge of him is aware and would like to send him packing but unfortunately the MD thinks the sun shines out of his arse.
Oh and he owes multiple people money, wife knows nothing about that either, whilst he shamelessly posts all their meals and days out and weekends away on Facebook.
Also does pretty much nothing all day and has now been moved to the factory area as the new person he was working with has complained about the 30 minute toilet breaks multiple times a day and him watching you tube instead of working. So hes now working with people earning minimum wage whilst still earning the same as a supervisor.

Not many people are doing whole life sentences. Then you could check who was killing in the 90s, and ran their own business. Wouldn't be hard to work out who it is.

I have a friend whose daughter is the result of a two-night conference "affair" with a senior manager she used to work with.

He is now the CEO of a (different) large company in the UK. He and his wife have three children, the youngest of which is only a few weeks older than my friend's daughter.

He has no relationship with my friend or her daughter and they never see him or have any direct contact. However, he provides generously financially, including school fees and investments for her future. All arrangements are made through his solicitor. My friend is sworn to secrecy.

As far as I am aware, I am the only person other than my friend and this man who know who her daughter's father is.

Edited

If you do Ancestry DNA, you might be able to work it out, if any relatives of his have also done it.

Yes -- I can see that my grandad (mum's father) was French Canadian (a soldier stationed in GB probably) as the DNA heritage all points to that.
Some Canadian 'relatives' have popped up on my account but I have no way of knowing who's who by surname. Lots of second cousins.
They probably wouldn't want to know about an illegitimate secret family anyway tbf.

Not acceptable for Catholics and I believe illegal for cousins to marry in primarily Catholic countries

Acceptable for Muslims (I think)

Allowed under UK law but to most people it’s seen as a bit ‘icky’.

If you see my post upthread, it's not unacceptable for Catholics. My sister married my 1st cousin. Whilst a shock to us all, they got genetic testing & special dispensation from the Bishop. It's through our maternal line, I believe it's the male line that can be problematic, or when there's multiple generations who have married cousins.

There's plenty in Ireland too, where my family originates (grandfather).

I'd be interested in official statistics for birth defects/ child deaths due to cousin marriage, rather than heresay we've had on this thread.

It's interesting that there's been comments of 'awful' on here. I wonder how my sister, my BIL & their 3 wonderful, grown-up children would feel about that being said to their faces?

Guy across the road is a real fitness fanatic, as is his wife. But every Wednesday afternoon, without fail, Dominos turns up with two large pizzas when I know he’s home alone, working. A few hours later, he emerges with the boxes and puts them in the bin, having polished off the lot. His wife is non the wiser.

Maybe they missus is coeliac and hes doing it for her safety😆
