There are so many wonderful examples of these, please share your favourites. Bonus points for links.

I remember one when OP was annoyed if the cost of children's birthday gifts weren't higher than the cost of hosting the party per child.

And the classic from a few weeks ago when OP thought it was ok to block the shared driveway and thought their neighbour who lived at the end was the unreasonable one.

I bet there are better ones out there though...

NoSoapJustUseShowerGel · 31/07/2025 07:09

A poster who expected her friend to know that she should use shower gel to wash her hands without explicitly saying so. Poster’s friend asked where the soap was, op kept saying “on the side of the bath” but never mentioned she actually meant the shower gel.
What really got me was that the op just couldn’t accept that the majority voted that she was unreasonable and kept arguing that you could wash your hands with shower gel. Despite everyone agreeing that it was indeed possible but she needed to actually let her friend know that she meant the shower gel, because her friend wouldn’t know that that’s what she meant. Even changed my username.

Oh god this one was right in the sweet spot between crazy and believable!

This sounds amazing! Can you share the link?

I’ll see if I can, Famallama, but I’m old and not good with this kind of thing! 😳I can’t remember the title of the post but I do remember that it didn’t mention the horse - it was rather non-specific like ‘ Is my friend being mean?’, but I’ll try!

This poster has started a number of strange posts over the last week or so, either they are excellent at trolling or have serious mental health issues

It wasn't unreasonable OP as such. Just of the red-raw-mortifying-need-to-change-your-name-go-into-witness-protection-pretend-you-have-died-I see-a-white-light-take-me-now-Lord variety.

One poster recounted a tale of how (and I can't even remember if this happened to her directly or a 'friend'), she had been stalking their ex on FB of an evening. They were not FB friends. She cllicks on the ex's profile and ex had a profile photo of himself, his now wife and their new baby. Lovely.

OP exits the page. Unbeknownst to her, she has somehow managed to tag herself as the baby in the ex's profile photo. And did not discover this for some time.

Another poster recounted a story of being at work and eves-dropping in on her work crush chatting to someone else about his recent move, mentioning the address of his new home. Our self-confessed creepy wee stalker valiant OP decides to do some information gathering by typing his new address into her phone's Google maps system to check the distance from her house to his. Then her phone's voice recognition system kicks in and starts to shout out the directions. He hears, and turns to look at her, perplexed.

lol regarding the baby photo 😂😂😂😂

TheIceBear · 31/07/2025 18:20

This is just mental. That poor guy if it’s actually true.

It wasn't funny but I was aghast at the one where the OP and friends spent about £250 in a restaurant and then didn't want to leave a £25 tip that was included with the bill - she was thinking more like a tenner iirc and eventurally left nothing. She kept coming back to justify her decisionby retelling the story the food that at the start of the meal had been good was suddenly bad, the service which had been fine, was worse and worse. What shocked me was all the people agreeing with her basic no tip policy and saying they never tipped. She was vile.

The woman who wanted her step daughter to stay in a hotel at Christmas because her adult children were too sensitive to noise. And then drip fed in that the house was actually mortgage free due to first wife’s (step daughters mother) untimely death and was the step daughters family home where she grew up

I remember that, it was horrific, Op was completely devoid of empathy. Iirc her husband was also supporting her adult kids.

One I remember is from many years ago and I can't find it. Also, I think it was on the property/DIY threads instead of AIBU. However, it stuck in my memory because the poster was so certain she was right.

She was a law student who had recently bought a house, and there was a small enclosed passage between the houses that was jointly owned by her and the next-door neighbour. So quite unusual circumstances really. She said that because the neighbour didn't use the passage, she planned to claim it and make it into an additional room in her own house. The justification for this was that she and her partner needed the extra space more than the neighbour did.

Everyone kept telling her that she couldn't just claim a shared space as her own and renovate it. She kept saying that as a law student, she was sure this was legally possible.

As the thread continued it emerged that the house was listed (so the possibility of making changes to it would be legally tricky anyway) and that the neighbour herself was a solicitor or barrister (I can't remember the details).

The OP wrote a letter to the neighbour informing her of her plans, and the neighbour said no. The OP persisted, and the neighbour told her in legal language and in no uncertain terms to piss off.

Everyone on the thread was on the side of the neighbour, but the OP was aghast at the neighbour for being so unsympathetic to her plight of needing more space. She was sure that her plan was eminently reasonable and that she would prevail.

I wanted to mention this one!

She got proper cross with us all saying you can't just takeover the alley and extend your kitchen into it!

She had also put gates on each end and padlocked so neighbour couldn't access the alley, then tried to say she could claim possession as neighbour wasn't using it!

Proper entitled Batshittery - tried to justify herself by saying neighbour had much nicer car FFS.

Wish I could find it to link I have tried......

The married with children one who keeps posting about her “guyfriend” with whom she is obviously having an emotional, if not physical affair but seems in deep denial about it.

GoneGirl12345 · 31/07/2025 15:50

I remember the supersoaker thread causing uproar the first time round but, reading it back, I don't think the OP was BU!

She asked the host who had said yes but the OP was still a bit unsure. She didn't seem to want to create a fuss, but in any case didn't send her DS with the supersoakers.

I think we might have been a bit unfair to her, or am I missing something?!

Oh - does anyone remember the woman who wanted her friend to lend her money to buy a horse? She really wanted a decent horse - good enough to compete with - and she said her friend wasn't short of money (big house, rich husband), but just wouldn't agree to lend her the money.

She was really aggrieved and felt the friend was being tight and selfish.

It was staggering, the lack of self-awareness!

Absolutely just beyond mental. "I am SO. ANGRY! at the way people think dolphins are cute and awesome and clever even though they commit GANG RAPE and MURDER and are EVIL and click at each other for CONSPIRACY."

😂😂

Yes!! Thank you! That’s my evening sorted. It’s the strangest thing I’ve ever read 😂

This was one of my favourite threads of all time. It's an oldie but a goodie.

Fashionistas in france

The op simply could not understand that she couldn't push to the front of a taxi queue because she had birthed some kids.

I'm going to go reread it now, hope it's just as funny as I remember.

That was the first MN thread I ever read. I wondered what kind of mad parallel universe I’d landed in.

This poster has a few odd threads a few weeks back. If she's real she is really not very well and needs more than an online therapist

Also she is just such a massive Eeyore, had a miserable answer for everything and did not let up. Not the only OP like this by any means. I always wonder if they carry out real life conversations like this? Not that's it wrong to want to moan to a listening ear but the absolute refusal to take comfort in having been heard and consoled?

Exactly.
