Non-binary colleague using disabled toilet

1000 replies

DefendingPan · 22/12/2024 10:14

Where I work there’s employee male and female toilets, customer male and female toilets and one customer disabled toilet.

This colleague is non-binary, is not disabled, and uses the disabled toilet/ baby change (with their own Radar key) because they “don’t feel comfortable) using either the male or female toilets.

I mentioned to my boss that I didn’t think this was appropriate and got accused of transphobia and threatened with discipline. I was made to feel like I was being offensive and discriminatory for bringing it up.

We have many elderly customers and many young families who all also need to use it.

Was I being unreasonable?

Do you use disabled parking spaces too?

I don’t have a car , I cycle . I will say though that someone at my allotment ( who therefore has an allotment) has a disabled badge on his American SUV.

TheGander · 22/12/2024 18:04

verysmellyjelly · 22/12/2024 14:34

You should stop doing that.

I’m going to carry right on.

Nobody wakes up and decide to be trans, who would ever choose to have a life of presecution that can end with them being beaten or even murdered at some point?

It will come as a great relief to you to know that trans people are the safest demographic worldwide when it comes to being murdered. There are more trans murderers than there are trans people murdered.

So says the person who spreads drivel and call trans people "mutilated", I wouldn't take your word on it even if my life depended on it :v

WarmingClothesontheRadiator · 22/12/2024 18:04

Sex is binary, gender isn't

Toilets are organised by sex.

TheGander · 22/12/2024 18:05

visitbreakfast · 22/12/2024 14:38

That's probably because they needed to go and have had to struggle their way into the ladies/men's toilet as they cannot access the disabled.

That’s literally never happened.

Yeah, but the world isn't that simple, generally one stops seeing the world in black and white when they become old enough.

Also, what you said completely ignores the reality, a trans person going through transition in time would look like the opposite sex, you think women would want in their bathroom a FtM trans who completely looks like a man, just because their bith sex is female? They wouldn't and you know it.

Insisting on the bathroom sex is not the "gotcha moment" you think it is.

TheGander · 22/12/2024 18:05

Hasn’t it? Because I can assure you it’s a regular occurrence to many. I think what you mean is you’re ignorant to the situation as you have no knowledge of it & it fits your view to completely disregard it.

TheGander · 22/12/2024 18:12

Look, when I go in for a quick wee and it’s done and dusted in 60 seconds if there was an inconvenienced disabled person waiting outside I’d be aware of it. It’s never happened. I know my experience, don’t re write it to suit your narrative.

If people are having operations to remove or significantly alter healthy body parts, with a very high likelihood of complications and revisions, then what else would you call it?

But if they’d gone into the other toilets, how would you know? I understand your motive to justify your shitty behaviour but I am absolutely certain, as someone on the ‘other side’ of your convenience, that you have inconvenienced somebody before if you freely use disabled facilities on a regular basis. I know my experience, don’t re-write it to suit your narrative.

Funny how you picked up on the word mutilated (castration, mastectomies, genital surgeries with over 80% adverse effect rates, binders that lead to harm in 95% of girls who wear them, flayed arms…) but have completely ignored the fact I pointed out so-called ‘gender affirming care’ sterilises teenagers, and mostly gay teenagers at that.

I bet you can’t provide any evidence for your claim of high murder rates either? Next you will be rolling out suicide but ignoring the fact that ‘transitioning’ increases suicide 18 fold. And perhaps you will ignore the census data that showed men who identify as trans have a sex offending rate many times that other men.

Wake up trans? No, in some men in takes weeks of sissy porn watching.

Trans individuals are lionised by society at the moment and their ‘identities’ trump all others - as can be seen by the call to hand over disabled facilities or women in their spaces.

Toopulululu · 22/12/2024 18:16

You raised it, they told you it’s fine (as far fhey’re concerned), I wouldn’t raise it again.

Hunglikeapolevaulter · 22/12/2024 18:18

@WarmingClothesontheRadiator I agree with everything you say, and I'd expand on your point to say that with younger people/adolescents, it very much is social contagion. I mean it's something that was almost vanishingly rare a couple of decades ago, to the numbers we're seeing now.
Such delights the internet has brought us.

She works with him so would know something was wrong by now. She knows they are non binary. They need to use another toilet and be considerate.

She works with him so would know something was wrong by now.

Really? Do you think some one discloses incontinence problems to their work colleagues?

And? Where in the rules for blue badges does it say you aren’t allowed a big car or allotment?

Porcuine20 · 22/12/2024 18:22

I think they’ve chosen the best solution for them - the disabled loo is genuinely unisex, and presumably they’re only in there for a couple of minutes so no big deal. Forcing them to choose a ‘gender’ loo to use seems a bit cruel.

Which shows the ignorance around disabilities

IamAutumn · 22/12/2024 18:25

I repeat sex is binary.
It seems that gender/trans/nonbinary is optional. Style Fashion Centre of Attention as Holly Thingummy or the actor chap who is sometimes photographed in the queue for the ladies loo. I can't be bothered to remember their names, so insignificant!

Why don't you two stop being cowards and just say what you really want to say, you use the word mutilated for a very clear and obvious reason, just because you try to use "science" and such to justify your argument doesn't mean it works on people who aren't transphobic, what you mean isn't as veiled as you think it is.

I also find funny you mention gay teenagers when majority of trans who go through transition are still adults and go through years of professional help first to make sure they are indeed trans

I bet you can’t provide any evidence for your claim of high murder rates either? Next you will be rolling out suicide but ignoring the fact that ‘transitioning’ increases suicide 18 fold. Funny since at no point I said anything about high murder rates, I simply said they're in danger of that.

Transitioning doesn't increase suicide, being persecuted by everyone around you definitely does.

Oh yeah, good old trans are sexual offenders, that was tried with gay people in the past, didn't work agains them, won't work agains trans.

Wake up trans? No, in some men in takes weeks of sissy porn watching.

Really, people become trans because of sissy porn? Way to make yourself look like a joke.

Trans individuals are lionised by society at the moment and their ‘identities’ trump all others - as can be seen by the call to hand over disabled facilities or women in their spaces.

Ah yes, trans, one of the most persecuted minorities are somehow also the most powerful that gets protected by everyone and is allowed to do everything they want, sure thing pal.

Funny how transphones love to use the "trans are sexual harrassers" argument, reminds me of the old days of gay panic, when a lot of people accused all gays of being rapists, pedophiles and so on.

Didn't work agains gays, won't work against trans, hope you're prepared to be disappointed when your hate achieve nothing since you won't win this battle.

visitbreakfast · 22/12/2024 18:29

@TheGander

He can manage to tend an allotment, I fail to see how he is disabled.

How very embarrassing for you.

I wouldn’t bother if I was you. The poster you’re responding to clearly has deep rooted resentment around those with disabilities. And/or is so intent in protecting the preferences of a group, who sees themselves as neither male or female, that they are happy to be repeatedly offensive & ignorant towards and actively take away the safe spaces of those with disabilities. The poster is an idiot and isn’t on the moral, or intellectual, high ground that they think.

Edited

Gay people never demanded others lie to uphold their fantasy, gay people never sought to destroy women’s rights or take disabled facilities, gay people never sterilised children, gay people never attempted to steal women’s language, gay people are not disproportionately represented amongst sex offenders, gay people never campaigned to give children harmful unlicensed and irreversible drugs, or to carry out surgeries on children. Stop appropriating gay people to your homophobic cause.
