It's not just an article it's a study carried out by government into how society has failed white working class boys and why they underperform across the board compared to their peers from other ethnic groups. Read it, or not. To use your own words; It's not my place to educate you.

No wonder black people are still ostracised when white people still can't understand white privilege as a concept. What a sad state of affairs.

There is some evidence there that White, economically disadvantaged boys are doing less well educationally than most, bar the Irish traveller community.

However, that doesn’t mean that people of colour are not still experiencing systemic racism.

It shows up in lots of ways. May be it is no longer the case that it shows up in educational achievement, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist or that people’s skin tone doesn’t create a layer of privilege or disadvantage in many ways.

Educational attainment is just one lens.

I didn’t check the methodology or potential biases but on the face of it, it looks like there is some evidence that white boys who claim free school meals are underperforming educationally when compared to all bar the Irish traveller community.

It isn’t a race issue because it’s just white boys (not white girls), it’s just white boys claiming free school meals (so not white boys who don’t claim free school meals).

So no, the disadvantage is certainly not to do with having white skin. It’s socio-economic disadvantage, rather than an innate visible difference that links in to historical othering, subjugation and oppression.

It is wrong, of course, and needs tackling, all children should have the same opportunity to reach their potential regardless, but it’s not a race issue.

I know, but in fairness, unless someone tells you, you don’t know how you are treated differently because you are white.

I’ve had to educate myself and have attended anti racism talks and workshops. Listened to my friends with different heritages. I’m not sure what started me on that path but I can imagine a life where I could have remained oblivious.

Some of it’s quite subtle. Especially micro aggressions.

So I can forgive white people if they don’t notice their skin tone privilege. I don’t think about mine day to day. But I understand it’s there. What I can’t forgive is denying it exists when it’s pointed out rather than being curious and learning more. No excuse.

Absolutely this. I think everyone's arguing 2 sides of the same coin here. And educational attainment has a huge knock on effect to the rest of their lives and their health, life expectancy etc.

Because you're not accepting that white people are privileged.

White working class boys may face specific disadvantages, but they still have white privilege. White people always have white privilege, irrespective of other disadvantages they may face. It's really not a hard concept to grasp.

I am accepting of it, I can be accepting of that and still see and call out disadvantage when it's present.
