this is a local company and this is their ‘Black Friday’ advert. WTF is it on about?!!! I’d hate to think the worst of them as they do lots of local events but…

How are people finding that funny?

I know and why didn’t the OP just report it to Facebook. It’s unbelievable

Gaz98 · 27/11/2024 15:19

Was this on fb? Needs reporting. They are not allowed to do this sort of thing.

Racism. I'm unsurprised.

Are you black?

Facebook don't care and likely won't even look into it.

Sushicucumbersalad · 27/11/2024 15:29

Am I missing something? I don't get it

Nevermind, someone explained further down

TravelInsuranceQ · 27/11/2024 15:29

I'm just amazed that there's not a single comment on that FB post.
Looks racist to me....

Gaz98 · 27/11/2024 15:30

Email them and tell them to take it down

There is a comment with the original pic , they'll probably remove it sharpish though

Sia8899 · 27/11/2024 15:34

It just makes no sense why someone would connect Black Friday to black pornstars. And then use that to promote their wine shop. When they’re not even black themselves (not that that would make any more sense). The whole thing is weird and inappropriate

but the original meme is, as OP said, pretty niche. A lot (most?) people won't make the connection. They'll just see 'blacked friday' and pictures of black men. Which does come across as racist.

Maybe they've deleted it? (as there aren't any comments showing for me)

Is the “massive” in capital letters alluding to what I think it is? How absolutely vile

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/11/2024 15:40

Stretching generosity to breaking point, and since you say they're usually a community-minded company, I wonder if it was a hideously clumsy and completely tone deaf attempt at inclusivity?

Though even then there are countless better ways to do it (actually anything would be better), and the least they can do is to remove it now when people hopefully point out just how inappropriate it is

Nonsense. It's racism.

Of course it is, user942557, but sadly some are ignorant enough not to have realised that, and it's just possible the ad's creator is such a one

Nonsense. Some people just think racism is funny.

Wanttobefree2 · 27/11/2024 15:46

I wonder if it’s intentional or someone who doesn’t have a clue about what they are doing!

another1bitestheduck · 27/11/2024 15:47

Found this which explains the context behind it
https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/piper-perri-surrounded
it's SFW - no naked men or porn or anything just in case anyone was at work/worried about clicking!

I can see what they were going for but think the meme is too niche and the subject matter too potentially controversial, for it to have hit the mark. Brands editing memes for SM isn't unusual but there's a reason most use the more mainstream/inoffensive ones - the joke doesn't work unless your audience a) understand it and b) find it funny.

If they'd used, for example, the 'distracted boyfriend' meme replacing the woman in red with the wine bottle most people would a) get the reference and b) the context would make sense even if you don't know the meme - the wine is so amazing people can't help but stop dead in the street to look at it. And, most importantly, it doesn't have any links to porn or race. Obvious that particular meme is incredibly overused now, but just to give an example.

user942557 · 27/11/2024 15:47

@Puzzledandpissedoff There's no excuse. No benefit of the doubt. These are racist adults.

WTAF. Is it Christmas in 1974 instead of 2024?!
