this is a local company and this is their ‘Black Friday’ advert. WTF is it on about?!!! I’d hate to think the worst of them as they do lots of local events but…

I also googled it and it is a real advert on their website. I am also white. Aside from this I know I am privileged and personally, for me, it I did find this racist. As well as in extremely poor taste given the background. But rather than clutching my pearls on Mumsnet I emailed the company to tell them this (or words to that effect).

White privilege doesn't mean you don’t face struggles or hardship, it means that you don’t face them because of your skin colour!

A white working class boy in a tower block will still not face as much oppression as a black working class boy in a tower block!

@Monstersare you misunderstood my post. The point I was attempting to make is that you raised an incredibly valid post about something you had seen. And also then did something about it. You've had quite a few replies to your OP. If everyone on here who said how bad it is also said something to the company then perhaps things like this might not happen. It was most definitely not snippy at you.

The guy emailed me back really quickly. He didn't give any inclination he was going to remove it and said humour is subjective, but you are right. It has been replaced.

I got a similar email. Denying it is racist because the men in the photo would have been paid. Something about humour being subjective. They did not get a polite response from me. Idiots!

Patronising ‘Were you shocked’ post up now, making out that it wasn’t racist and someone was just being over sensitive. I can just imagine the kind of man he is. Always ‘joking’ and expecting everyone to laugh along but then being mortally wounded when you don’t - because he’s not funny. The pubs are full of them.
