Is it me or are more and more people on here just being fucking nasty for the sake of it?! Honestly if you have nothing nice to say to people that are genuinely looking for some advice because they haven't got anywhere else to turn just keep your opinion to yourself! It really isn't hard to be nice!

I was scrolling through that thread last night. I can't remember what it was about now, only that the OP was in distress and people were being really cruel to her. Horrible.

Yes just vile. Some idiot saying you sound like a moron. The OP was literally saying I am struggling here please be kind, and gets comments like that. Some bullies on here.

CharlotteBog · 26/09/2024 10:46

ColdPlayy · 26/09/2024 10:28

I'll quote what I want. The OP has asked a valid question wondering why people are so nasty and dickheads. There was a poster last night who couldn't cope and really needed support. An idiot came on calling them a moron and other nasty shit. A poster yesterday wished homeless people dead and other vile crap that got deleted. This forum is very useful in most cases, but there are nasty bullying pricks on here.

Someone coming on proving the OPs point being sarcastic just for the sake of it, and you know it.

Yeah, lot of people very quick to jump on people alright!! Definitely getting angrier!!!

HolidayAtNight · 26/09/2024 10:35

It's interesting, I know views on Tattle on here are dim, but I sometimes lurk on some threads there (more of the ones about the ick, relationships, etc., as I'm not interested in the celebrity/influencer stuff which I understand is much nastier - as in nastier about the celebrities/influencers).

Something I've really noticed is that posters are SO MUCH nicer to each other on there - no one gets picked up for grammar and spelling, no pile-ons, and where there are occasional misunderstandings (once or twice per 50-page thread, if even that) they get quickly sorted out civilly. It's actually jarring reading a thread there and then coming back here and seeing people being pounced on left, right and centre and engaging in petty point-scoring arguments (and yeah, I've done that too!).

It just amuses me when there are threads about Tattle on here and people go on about how horrible it is, when the reception to posters is MUCH worse here.

Don't just quote half a sentence. The actual question was if you don't like it why are you here? Which is a valid question. I don't use forums that I don't like the tone of - I don't create threads criticising the members, I just stop using the forum.

I dont like the tone of Tattle, so I dont go there

I like here and Reddit - so I go there.
I like that people will call out unreasonable bullying posts, I REALLY like that we are treated as adults, and can swear and not put up with bullcrap

I don't think it matters that threads like theses are repeated. There's probably repeats of most threads. There's repeats of parking threads
Cock lodger threads
Nightmares neighbour threads
Affair threads
Difficult teen/toddler threads
Mental health threads
Bla bla bla

Not sure why this grates so much, maybe because you can make a change to the impact on you by not coming here?

The parking threads are normally "this has happened / is currently happening to me", and relevant to a person at that time - so kind of like I hate soaps and dont want to watch Eastenders, but I have to as I want to watch things on the BBC - well, dont watch Eastenders then, there are plenty of other things to watch at 730 on a tuesday?

"Wow thanks for your input", "why are you here"

That's up to you if you think that's not rude. Multiple people have called that poster out.

If these threads are weekly, why have you had to go back four and five years to find examples?

I was showing how they have been here repeatedly over the years, and it was a quick google search where I copied some examples

If you are giving examples, its best to get a wide range.

ColdPlayy · 26/09/2024 10:12

DaniMontyRae · 26/09/2024 10:08

I didn't find that poster's comments pointless. These threads do appear nearly every week, there is no need to keep rehashing it. The poster you're slating also raised a valid point about asking why the OP and others continue to use MN if they don't like what is posted.

@BobLemon thank you for proving my point by commenting on something just try and be funny. I'm sure you could of gone about your day without the sarcastic comment but here we are proving points 🤷🏻‍♀️

To all those being professionally offended by the OP, you maybe didn't come across the poster that I read (and reported) last night.
It wasn't banter. It wasn't a robust challenge. It wasn't sweary. It was designed to attack a clearly distressed and vulnerable OP. Over and over again, and yes those posts have been removed (thanks Mnhq).
If they had been aimed at me, no harm would have been done. But they may have had profound and real effects on the OP.
So yes, you may be bored by the number of people asking if it's got worse lately. But you know just maybe so many people are asking the question, because it HAS got worse lately.
In society generally, and AIBU is just a local symptom.

By professionally offended do you just mean disagrees with? Maybe you are the one proving the OP's point because you've resorted to insults straight away.

DaniMontyRae · 26/09/2024 10:08

ColdPlayy · 26/09/2024 09:21

Yours was pointless and proving OPs point, mine was pointing that out. Anyway I'm not even getting into it with people like you, proving OPs point and I'm clearly not the only person on this post who has that opinion of you.

Didimum · 26/09/2024 10:06

Call it out when you see it. Everyone should. It's very quickly becoming completely unacceptable.

IBlameTheDog · 26/09/2024 10:05

TheRavenSaid · 26/09/2024 08:59

Wow - thanks for your imput....

Maybe you could have added to one of the weekly threads this comes up on repeatedly?

I don't find swearing very nice but there you go.

What does swearing have to do with people being unnecessarily rude on threads?

Nannerli · 26/09/2024 10:04

And yes, obviously report cruel attacking posts.

But how many of those people saying it’s ’got worse lately’ have been around on Mn long enough to have a meaningful basis for comparison? Of course there are profoundly unpleasant attacks. There have always been. It’s a large anonymous Internet forum, and one frequented by a disproportionate number of people who admit themselves that they struggle with relationships, are socially withdrawn, anxious, misanthropic and/or friendless. Sometimes there will be a good reason why they fail to get on with other people. Sometimes that comes out online.

And those should be reported to MN and dealt with - this thread is about a wider brush.

Bullying is not acceptable in any form, but to call out "people here" as "nasty for the sake of it" is tarring a lot of users who aren't mean.

People have been saying it’s worse lately for a couple of decades (or more). It feeds into that oh so unhelpful nostalgia for simpler/older times. The world needs to move forward not constantly be looking back.

@professionaloverthinker posting for traffic means a lot of people are going to see your post. If you scroll AIBU board you can see how many pages of posts just get posted in one day. A lot of people like a bun fight and are drawn to this board. It is why I tend to avoid it.
