Cracked today.

Heyhelga · 18/10/2026 20:39

Nooooooo. Still have the windows open during the day here. We're in the South. Feels mild here still. Even had a shirt sunny day here during the week. Can get a bit nippy at night but winter duvets are back on so fine for the time being with no heating.

Hoork · 18/10/2026 20:41

no But heated blankets and fire

IzzyLeng · 18/10/2026 20:41

Came on yesterday. Was freezing. Manchester level of northern

Nomorewino · 18/10/2026 20:42

No but I have had the fire lit in the evenings.

PickledMuffin · 18/10/2026 20:43

yep!

NimbleTaupeTiger · 18/10/2026 20:43

We've had it on for very short periods. We're in the south east and our garden is still in full bloom.

dontcookwontcook · 18/10/2026 20:46

Just got home and had to put the heating on. It’s freezing!! Not sure if it’s been so warm the last few months that I don’t even know what autumn whether is, or whether it is genuinely super cold

Frenzi · 18/10/2026 20:47

Ours is on all year round! Thermostat set at 18 degrees. Its clicked on a few times over the last couple of weeks

CherryKerry · 18/10/2026 20:50

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 18/10/2026 18:21

What? Since the middle of August??

Not had full heating on yet, but put the gas fire on last night. Mmmm.

Edited

Yes, it's pretty cold getting up at 6am in Scotland so heating tends to ping on once we get into the end of August/ start of September. Thermostat usually knocks it off again if there is any heat in the sun later in the day.

We've already had a really hard frost every morning this week so its pretty much on all day now 😱.

Cleo65 · 18/10/2026 20:50

Nope, cosy under my electric throw blanket. Marvellous invention/investment.

SmallDFartyCarNRG · 18/10/2026 20:53

I do, cracked last night and its on to 18. House was colder than outside!

Modernschooling · 18/10/2026 21:07

Not yet but the house feels damper this week. Luckily it’s been mostly sunny so can still dry the clothes outside

One week until half term and then I’m away for a week.
Once it’s on then it’s on until April. The later i start the better.

Autumnlife · 18/10/2026 21:55

The living room faces North with no sun exposure whatsoever today I put the heating on for a few hours. It’s been turned off now and it’s comfortable. If it’s cold I’ll turn it on.

Livergoingtogivemeup · 18/10/2026 21:59

Context is everything. South England is going to be totally different to Scotland!

South England - no way. Tested it. Probably needs a service.. but works for now.

windows open all day and night in my room.
hate a hot bedroom. I will probably turn it on after half term to make mornings easier. Otherwise jumpers on !

sherbetlemonade · 18/10/2026 22:07

It is currently 9 degrees outside - home counties. We've gone from t-shirts, shorts and flip-flops to thick jumpers, long trousers and furry slippers in less than three weeks. Bit of a shock to the system.

steelingmyself · 18/10/2026 22:18

Ours was on low even in the summer. I live north of Scotland though!

Laurmolonlabe · 18/10/2026 22:25

Ours is on a thermostat, it doesn't come on regularly until mid Nov usually.

Specialneedsnightmare · 19/10/2026 08:51

Throwntothewolves · 18/10/2026 19:36

Where do you live that you don't have your heating on yet?
It was frosty here this morning in central Scotland, so yes, we have our heating on.

The south coast

Yes, it’s turned chilly very suddenly. I’m really feeling the cold after all the hot weather we’ve had.

Gertlushthatis · 19/10/2026 09:10

DC are complaining so I've brought out the brushed cotton bedding and hot water bottles. And we've got the heated throws out for working from home. Heating won't go on until we can see our breaths in the room.

HoppityBun · 19/10/2026 09:12

Nomorewino · 18/10/2026 20:42

No but I have had the fire lit in the evenings.

But surely that’s just the same as the heating coming on for a couple of hours? And more polluting, too.

Mine has come on a few times, for a couple of hours in total, in the last week. That’s for about half an hour on a few mornings and about half an hour for two or three evenings. It doesn’t seem to me to be more virtuous to light a fire in the evenings then to have the heating on for a short time.

Definitely a hot water bottle the last couple of nights

That must be utterly miserable.

KathleenDarleenDayKnight · 19/10/2026 09:55

Mine's been on since August.
