Loop earplugs

From newborn cries to sibling fights, the noise that comes with parenting can be overwhelming at times. Enter: Loop earplugs, a product that you’ve likely seen on your social media and on our Talk boards over the last year or so. You might be wondering if these stylish, noise-cancelling earplugs are just another overhyped gadget or a genuine sanity-saver for us parents? Well, I’m here to share my honest thoughts.

Just a year ago, you'd have found me in the kitchen, desperately trying not to lose it as my two young children fought, argued, screamed, and stomped around while I attempted to cook. The racket was more than annoying - it was overwhelming and often debilitating.

Having two kids within 15 months had drastically lowered my noise tolerance. Everyday parenting moments became potential stress-inducing ordeals. So when an Instagram ad for the Loop earplugs promised easier, quieter parenting, I didn't hesitate. And honestly, I'm glad I didn't.

I have them and they're really good! I went to a heavy gig wearing them at the front so VERY loud and the hoops worked very well! I took one out just to see the difference and WOW!

I like mine. You have to experiment to get the right position, but they're really good once you've done that. They're comfortable too.

I have a pair for sleeping and a pair for toning down noise when I’m at soft play or trying to read a book, they are good!

Fast-forward a year and I’m now the owner of two types of Loop earplugs that help me on a daily basis: the Loop Quiet 2 and Loop Engage 2.

The former are great for times when I really need to concentrate or need a hand getting to sleep. Whereas the Loop Engage 2 are designed for noise-sensitivity and parenting as they offer up to 16dB of filtered noise reduction to take the edge off without muffling your voice. So, you can reduce the background noise but keep speech clear.

So much so, they’re not just great for parenting - they’re also ideal for busy social gatherings or concerts  as they offer noise reduction and clarity. Plus, they’re certified as hearing protection to keep your ears safe from loud, damaging sounds.

They’re really easy to use and insert and every set comes with four spare silicone ear tips (XS/S/M/L) so you can customise your fit every time. Each pair comes with a handy carry case, too.

Do Loop earplugs work?

A look at our Talk boards suggest that there’s a mixed bag of opinions between Mumsnet users when it comes to Loop earplugs. Of course, whether these nifty things are worth buying depends on your style, how comfortable you’d find them, and what you need them for.

Personally, I couldn’t get through a day without mine. Especially at the moment when my young children are still, well, very young. My Loop Engage 2 ones take the edge off when things get noisy and at the end of a busy day when my mind is buzzing with the things I need to get done the next day, my Loop Quiet 2 earplugs are very helpful in quieting my mind.

On the left, Loop Quiet, and on the right you can see my clear Loop Engage

In hindsight, I should have waited until they released the Switch version as these three-in-one earplugs can be adjusted depending on your environment throughout the day. However, these are almost double the price of the Quiet 2 and Engage 2, so I guess this would depend on your budget and/or preferences. I don’t mind having two separate sets as I have them in dedicated spaces in my home and/or bag.
