I've stayed in the Olympic Lagoon and agree it's fabulous. I loved the lazy river. I've stayed in lots of hotels in the Canaries but not come across any quite like that

Our verdict

If your idea of the perfect family holiday involves sitting with your kindle while the kids splash around in the pool, Olympic Lagoon Resorts hotel offers not one, not two, but SIX lagoon-style pools to choose from, including one with a lazy river and water slide. Coupled with the fact Landa Beach is just a short walk away, there’s plenty of variety for the kids.

There are seven onsite restaurants to choose from, including a children's buffet and family dining area, menus inspired by celebrity chefs and a rock-and-roll American-style diner.

The dedicated kids’ club has over 150 different activities including evening shows and entertainment, and the arcade room and gym are sure to be a hit with teens.

Even better, you may even get a lie in, too. There’s no need to reserve loungers before breakfast as every room is allocated their own.

Best for facilities: Atlantica Aphrodite Hills Hotel

What Mumsnet users say

We stayed in the Aphrodite hills sensatori in Cyprus, had a nice swim up room and was quite a quiet hotel (it was end of May so may be a lot busier in summer), we really enjoyed it and had the end room which had a nice seating bit in the pool.

Our verdict

Just 15 minutes from Paphos airport (making transfers with kids simple and stress-free), the Aphrodite Hills Hotel has an elevated prime location with some truly stunning sea views overlooking Aphrodite’s Rock.

Family rooms include sliding doors to separate sleeping areas, meaning your evening doesn’t have to end when the kids go to bed. If your budget allows, opt for a stunning family suite with its own private pool.

You’ll be spoiled for choice with the four on-site pools, and for active families, there’s a wide range of activities including tennis and football schools with qualified coaches,  horse riding and golf.

If you fancy some child-free time, the onsite creche caters for babies aged 6+ months, while the kids club will accept children up to 12.

With an indoor play area, shaded outdoor play area and fun-filled daily schedule of activities, there’s something to keep children of all ages entertained - there’s even a Mother and Child spa treatment for kids aged 8-15.

Best budget hotel: Adams Beach Hotel

Our verdict

In Nissi Bay, with its vivid blue shores and white sandy beaches, Adams Beach Hotel is a popular choice with families and it offers excellent value for money.

The large swimming pool complex is ideal for children (and adults) and features fountains, hot tubs and cascades, as well as high-energy water slides and a lazy river to relax in at the end of a sun-soaked day.

With a popular kids’ club for children 5-12 and an animation team, you can expect entertainment day and night, including lively evening performances at the Vitaminas Pool Bar. There's also a babysitting service - perfect if you fancy a child-free dinner or simply a romantic stroll on the beach before bed.

Best luxury hotel: Elysium Hotel

What Mumsnet users say

Hobsons123 · Recommended
We've just got back from the Elysium in Paphos and they had excellent childcare. The kids club starts from age 3 but they do have a crèche too for younger children. They are open 10 - 13.15 & then 2.45-17.15. My 3 year old really enjoyed it.

Our verdict

With a great location in Paphos, Elysium Hotel offers five-star luxury in a range of room types including traditional terracotta-style family ‘Cyprian maisonettes’ and for those willing to spend a bit more; Royal Garden Villas, with private pools.

Within easy reach of Paphos’ historical Tomb of the Kings, Elysium has a choice of three swimming pools, one of which is aimed specifically at kids.

The Angel Kids’ Club is well set up for children aged 3-12, while the entertainment room and pool games are great options for older children and teens.

If you're travelling with a baby or toddler, you can pack light as the hotel can provide everything you need - from high chairs to buggies, to sterilisers and even baby bath tubs.

With a 24-hour babysitting service run by qualified childminders, you could certainly justify whisking yourself off to the Opium Spa for some much needed R&R!

5

Best hotel for entertainment: The GrandResort

Our verdict

With a beachside location and generously sized landscaped gardens, children under 14 can stay free at The Grand Resort when parents book on a full- or half-board basis - a potentially huge savings benefit for larger families.

Well set up to meet a range of family needs, the Nino Nina Kids’ club is run by experienced staff and is suitable for kids aged 4-12 years.

By day, kids can enjoy the outdoor playground and separate children’s paddling pool, but the fun doesn't stop when the sun goes down. The Grand Resort animation team also provides a varied entertainment programme in the evenings, including cinema nights and live music six nights a week.

Dining with kids can be stressful, but the Grand Resort has a designated kids’ corner in the main restaurant, which offers a child-friendly menu and children's buffet, including family favourites that’ll please even the pickiest of eaters.

Best hotel for babies: Columbia Beach Resort Pissouri

What Mumsnet users say

minipie · Recommended
Columbia Beach Resort in Cyprus - the one bedroom family suite has a double room and a twin with sliding doors in between. The two bedroom suite has a double room, a twin room and a sitting area in between (could be used as a 3rd single room).

Our verdict

With an 80-metre infinity pool, the Columbia Beach Resort is located in the peaceful area of Pissouri, known for its stunning Blue flag beach.

The hotel offers a wide range of family friendly facilities, with the Den Kids Club for 4-12 year olds offering a weekly series of activities including tennis, basketball, darts and even Greek language lessons. Nai parakaló!

With a babysitting service and an onsite creche suitable for babies from four months, even couples with younger children can enjoy some well deserved alone time - heading out for a child-free dinner at the Bacchus restaurant (one of three to choose from) or treating themselves to a massage at the luxurious Hebe spa.

Best family-friendly self-catering apartments: Avanti Village

What Mumsnet users say

Ifulikepinacoladas · Recommended
We have stayed at The Avanti Village, Paphos, a few times and can highly recommend. We've only done breakfast there, but I think you can do half board as they have a sister hotel right next to it. They have a fab poolside restaurant for lunch and there are loads of places to eat nearby, and the marina is a walk/taxi away and has lots of choice.

We went to the Avanti Holiday Village in Paphos last year in August - our kids were a bit younger than yours though. We thought it was very good for the price.

Our verdict

Part of the same group as the Avanti Hotel, the Avanti Village offers self-catering apartments in a prime location, just 20 minutes from the airport, ideal for families who want to explore everything Paphos has to offer and enjoy traditional Cypriot cuisine.

Just eight minutes walk from a beautiful beach, the Avanti village complex is built around an impressive lagoon-style pool. A great option for larger families, each apartment can sleep two adults and up to three children, with interconnecting rooms available on request.

From the separate children’s swimming pool and shallow area in the main pool, a lazy river and an adventure playground, there’s lots to offer younger guests. The Free Kids’ Club offers a morning and afternoon programme of activities and an imaginative entertainment programme, including an infamous mini disco.

Nearest airport: Paphos Airport (9 miles)

8

Best for facilities: Amathus Beach Hotel Limassol

Our verdict

A beachfront hotel just 10 mins from the centre of Limassol, the Amathus Beach Hotel offers a huge variety of child-friendly facilities for kids of all ages.

From the family-friendly beach with beach toys to the Closed Coaster and Open Kamikazi water slides in the lifeguard monitored pools, there’s even a toddler-friendly paddle/splash pool that's just 30cm deep.

At the Pelican Kids’ Club for children 4-12, kids can get involved with arts, crafts and cooking, as well as video and table games, while teens will love the ‘It’s a Knockout’-style inflatable water playground and access to sea sports.

From the dedicated family meal area in one of the five onsite restaurants, to the slippers and robes for kids in the rooms, this hotel really has seen holidays through the eyes of a child.

Best beachfront hotel: Almyra Paphos

What Mumsnet users say

minipie · Recommended
Or Cyprus has a fairly good chance of good weather (probably less than canaries). Almyra hotel might be very suitable, kids clubs start from baby age and there is a heated pool.
See Post
Our verdict

Just five minutes’ walk to the beach and harbour, the Almyra hotel in Paphos offers floor-to-ceiling windows with stunning views that will have you looking forward to pulling back the blinds each morning and watching the sunset every evening.

With a choice of rooms including interconnecting rooms that may appeal to larger families, the Almyra has age appropriate kids’ clubs for children from four months to 11 years. Unlike some kids’ clubs that try and appeal to everyone, Almyra offers different sessions for a variety of age groups: Globetrotters for four months to two years; Adventurers for 3-5s, Voyagers for 5-8s and Pioneers for 8-11.

There’s a creche run by qualified nannies that’s suitable for babies from four months and a handy Baby Go Lightly service that lets you pre-order nappies and pushchairs before your stay so that heavier items can stay at home.

Is Cyprus family friendly?

Absolutely. From its sunny climate to its array of beachside resorts with kid-friendly amenities, Cyprus is geared up for family holidays. Cypriot hospitality is also second to none, with children made to feel like royalty when you dine out.

Which part of Cyprus is best for families?

While most resorts have something to offer families, Limassol and Paphos tend to be the two most popular choices for family-friendly hotels in Cyprus. Ayia Napa is known for its lively nightlife, so it does tend to attract a younger crowd but there are still a few quieter, calmer hotels in the area. Pissouri tends to be more tranquil, which may suit families with younger children and babies looking for some relaxation.

What’s the best family-friendly hotel in Cyprus?

The Aphrodite Hills Hotel made our pick as the best family friendly hotel in Cyprus, largely due to its secluded location and range of facilities for children of all ages. Whether your holiday involves chilling round the pool or something a little more active, the Aphrodite offers something for all.
