I don't think this has been posted yet, but will delete if iI'm duplicating.

Cheryle has waived her anonymity to talk about the sexual assault she experienced in prison by Karen White. I'm sorry this happened to you Cheryle.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10406351/I-sexually-assaulted-transgender-rapist-womens-jail.html

A female prisoner has described her ordeal at the hands of a transgender woman who sexually molested inmates at a women's jail during a three-month reign of terror.

Waiving her anonymity in an interview with The Mail on Sunday, Cheryle Kempton is the first victim to speak out in the hope that it prevents other women facing a similar fate.

'We felt they had protected Karen over us,' said Cheryle. 'All women in prison are vulnerable.'

For Cheryle Flowers

pannikin · 16/01/2022 03:23

But it never happens, does it? Isn't that what they keep telling us.

Such an awful thing to have experienced, for Cheryle and the other women this person also sexually assaulted.

Women need to be kept safe, particularly in an environment like prison where a huge amount of the inmates will have suffered abuse a lot of their lives. Thanks

CheeseMmmm · 16/01/2022 03:26

Vv brave of cheryle to waive anonymity.

I do think the mail article is not on her side though sadly.

The order they put the info in. The OTT language used.

Starting with the hair makeup thing.

Leaving the court case and other crimes and what judge said to end.

To me it's a stitch up.

Will have been written readership in mind obv.

Not a paper/general readership who are keen on criminals.
Or women.

Not keen on trans thing either.

So piece written to point out issue males prison.

But without readers feeling piece overly sympathetic to criminal.

Just my view.

KimikosNightmare · 16/01/2022 03:35

I'm really not seeing where you get that impression from.

CheeseMmmm · 16/01/2022 03:40

It's my personal opinion after reading the article.

Reasons as per my post.

Disagreement on what think of article fine obv. It's just my view. Not saying it's THE view iyswim!

TheDuchessOfBeddington · 16/01/2022 04:39

I fucking believe her Flowers

TheDuchessOfBeddington · 16/01/2022 04:41

And yes, the daily Mail was not the most understanding of vessels. But I guess at least they published it?

CheeseMmmm · 16/01/2022 05:17

Yes they did publish and more light on issue better than not.

Thinking about it though.

Do DM readers actually need convincing that males in women's prisons is just a hard no?

No they don't. Because population hardly anyone would be seems fine to me. Immediate that's not right. Across population.

Are they going to do anything? Write MP, donate sex> gender orgs. Think this is an issue I'm really going to take on talk to friends etc?

I'm going with a very unlikely indeed. Again tbh same as most of population.

How many people read DM across board care about inmates having bad time Vs the supposed to be punishment, too pampered?

TV? Phone? Training? Exercise? Food???? Too soft. That stuff. That's DM sort of view I think?

So thinking about it.

Is there anything actually achieved here?
Apart from good finally some reports in big audience news?

Crazykatie · 16/01/2022 06:59

Prison is awful and much worse for those with “different” identities because they are bullied even more, mens jails are even worse.

My brother works in mens prison in the “education” department and there are some seriously warped and evil inmates there, what happens behind closed doors does not bear thinking about.

Most people probably would be annoyed at prisoners being pampered but I think most would agree that being kept safe from sexual assault is hardly mollycoddling!
RocketPanda · 16/01/2022 07:53

I wish Cheryle and all of Whites victims the very best for the future and hopefully Cheryle can overcome her hardships.

I also hope that every victim in the prison sues for their horrific ordeals. These women were locked in with a rapist.

Bearsinmotion · 16/01/2022 08:14

Karen White being one of them, and yet her desire to be housed with vulnerable women was prioritised over the needs of those
vulnerable women.

OhHolyJesus · 16/01/2022 08:24

I'm so angry about this issue I'm not sure I can read that, though I'm really pleased we are getting first hand accounts of the horrid in the public domain. Every single MP and member of the HoL should read it even if I can't.

Cheryle must have thought so long and hard about doing this. Even that process on its own blows me away. The bravery...it goes beyond bravery, there is an invasion for her all over again. She loses something else now, she has to go through it all over again. It's self-sacrifice for the aim of helping others.

Every single person who has facilitated this should hang their heads. How many women are they going to sacrifice?

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 16/01/2022 08:43

excellent opinion piece at the end highlighting the recent debate in the House of Lords

As [Former Home Office Minister Baron] Blencathra puts it, when women are jailed, their ‘punishment should not include the threat of rape and violence from big, brute rapists who have decided to identify as women and get sent to a women’s unit’.

It's excellent seeing opinions like this in the Daily Mail.

That's an argument for special units to keep those with ‘different identities’ safe but it’s definitely not an argument for putting males in women’s prisons.

The importance of this is cut through - ie raising awareness of the topic for people who aren’t on Twitter etc to see #keepprisonssinglesex hashtag, aren’t aware of the issues. A lot of people don’t know what’s going on and these Mail articles are changing that.

It also keeps up the pressure on the political parties against self ID.

Mail is always going to be the bluntest instrument but it’s important.

Thanks Cheryle for sharing your story Flowers

AssignedBlobbyAtBirth · 16/01/2022 09:27

I know a group of young people who have ended up in prison and are extremely vulnerable. They are from the care system and have been let down all their lives. For the main they are young males many also have ASD and/or mental health issues
I don't see MPs or groups showing much interest in this group but there they are tripping over themselves to support rapists and paedophiles Hmm
Wtf is happening in our society

ArabellaScott · 16/01/2022 10:11

Cheryle Flowers I'm so fucking sorry on behalf of the shit-for-brains that put this man in with you. I am so angry on your behalf.

What
the
fuck
will
it
take?

Yes. Exactly.
RepentMotherfucker · 16/01/2022 10:19

That's a great article. 100% on the side of women.

Brave Cheryle. Well done to you 👏👏👏

RepentMotherfucker · 16/01/2022 10:22

And I think I, for one, am going to stop hand wringing about the Daily Mail - particularly on this issue. They are doing a fantastic job.

I'm now reserving judgment for people I see reading the Grauniad.

lovelyweathertoday · 16/01/2022 10:22

including the make-up and wigs which speak to Cheryle’s own perception that White was simply putting on womanface, not remotely transgender,

This is why prisons need to be single sex. Most genuine older transgender males look pretty much like White. There is no way to separate out the men who want to be in women's spaces to assault them from men who want to be there because they genuinely believe something about themselves makes them a woman.

Men who believe they are women should be housed in a safe space with other men, not in women's prisons.

lovelyweathertoday · 16/01/2022 10:25

By "genuine transgender males" I mean men who believe they are a type of woman. I think this is a delusion but they are a different type of person from predators who are merely pretending they believe this.

Neither are actually women in any way whatsoever. Being a woman is being an adult human female.

TheWeeDonkey · 16/01/2022 10:28

@Crazykatie

My brother works in mens prison in the “education” department and there are some seriously warped and evil inmates there, what happens behind closed doors does not bear thinking about.

The problem is a lot of men are vulnerable in prison for many reasons. Just because one identifies as tran doesn't make them more vulnerable, indeed if they are a violent or manipulative offender they can be a danger to other prisoners male or female.

The idea that trans = most vulnerable is a lazy one.

More investment and support needs to go into making men's prisons less dangerous and identify and putting precautions in place for genuinely vulnerable male prisoners rather than offloading one group for women's prisons to deal with.
