The UK is losing robust data on sex and the framing of the sex question in the 2021 census is set to make the situation worse.

MoJ Technical Guide to Statistics on Women and the Criminal Justice System shows that we do not have reliable or consistent CJS data on the sex variable in England & Wales. Data labelled ‘sex’ may be variously recorded as: self-identified; officer identified; self-reported..
