CPS school hate crime guidance - we must complain!

This needs a thread of its own - nicked from @R0wantrees - thanks!

@Spiro - thanks!

We need to complain to the CPS, the EHRC and all our MPs about this policy

Safe Schools Alliance:
(extract)
"SSA UK and Fair Cop are concerned about some of the content of this guidance:

It creates a hierarchy of rights.
It blurs the distinction between hate crime, which is defined in law, and ‘hate incidents’, which are not.
It seeks to create a fear among children of being criminalised for asserting sex-based rights or discussing biological reality.
It suggests that any child who states a preference for single-sex spaces is committing a hate incident, and possibly a hate crime.
It suggests that wearing slogans or sharing information with others that recognises biological facts may be treated as a hate crime or incident.
It promotes the ideology of political lobby groups Stonewall and Gendered Intelligence, which have no known qualifications to advise on child safeguarding.
We are asking parents, teachers, governors, and anyone else who is concerned about this guidance to write to the CPS to complain" (continues with link to letter template)

I have written to my MP and booked an appointment to see him.

All parties either support this (SNP, Greens, Labour, Lib Dem, Plaid etc) OR are now silent on the issue but are allowing it to happen (Tories)

This is being reported in The Telegraph, I have posted a link to the article on another thread. It's good that this is getting media coverage.

OhHolyJesus · 30/01/2020 10:20

This is great OP, it definitely needs a thread of its own. I confess I haven't tackled the document itself due to lack of time so I'm grateful to others for sharing their findings

Thanks to Spero and Safe Schools especially.

Thoughts on who to complaint to:

Minister for children and Families - I once had a response from them

Minister of Education - what good it will do I can't say

Local Education Authorities

The schools themselves, the HTs, but that letter could be more to raise awareness and note your own thoughts - personally I will be asking to be informed if the school has or will be referring to this guidance so I can make an informed decision as to my child's education

The various Teachers Unions? Maybe no point or no point unless you are a teacher?

Basically I think we should scream this from the rooftops. Will be back to check on more ideas later.

Thanks again OP!

I hope that this is been discussed on other MN boards.
It should be especially concerning to all parents, carers, teachers & school governors

@R0wantrees

Great idea - I’ll look to post later when I get a chance

Echoing OhHoly, this needed to be a thread. Like anyone else who's paying attention, hoping for a quick and favorable judgment for the FairCop case, and ready to flex my spade to go after this BS. I wish this was just the bad SF it seems to be, the Crown Prosecution Service going after young girls who want privacy from males. A full frontal attack on Safeguarding. Meanwhile women like Lang Cleg are being deplatformed for not being nice enough in the way they address these issues.

It suggests that wearing slogans or sharing information with others that recognises biological facts may be treated as a hate crime or incident.

This point reminded me of what Posie says about using slogans like "woman: adult human female," the reason they put the poster up in the first place, was that it would draw out the crazy for everyone to see. Which had to be done, but this crazy is some very scary powerful crazy.
I so hope more people start noticing and caring.

Tracy Shaw from Safe Schools Alliance explains very clearly in this interview what the issues are & how they are affecting every school.
Tracy also makes clear that to re-establish Safeguarding requires parents & carers to find out what is happening at their children's school & to start speaking up now.
SSA have many excellent resources to help & also need support in their case against Oxfordshire County Council which if successful will lead to all Local Authorities having to change policies.
"we are taking action because we believe the Oxfordshire Trans Inclusion Toolkit recommended to schools and educational settings is unlawful and damaging to children."
