Would love to know what the guidance and training will include (noted at the bottom).

Another bites the sawdust.

AncientLights · 24/10/2019 21:02

I didn't see the notes at the bottom. Is that where they put the references too? It's all very well saying 'Stonewall 2015' & 'Stonewall 2017' or whatever the years were, but I do need the rest to check it out.

Also, which is the other organisation they talk about as being in trouble for supporting trans kids? They sound very naive.

TemporaryPermanent · 24/10/2019 21:11

I'm guessing its GirlGuiding. There was a surge of FB stuff on the Woodies page at the time of news about the legal case.

Not being specific means they don't have to get into icky detail about single sex and what that means. After all, woodies was founded at least partly because single sex youth organisations were the only option; mixing sex is what it's about. Though never overnight at camp. Their relevant policy starts 'Everyone has a gender identity...'

PencilsInSpace · 24/10/2019 21:20

Yes, Katie Alcock is taking legal action against Girl Guiding for expelling her after she raised safeguarding issues.

It might be unfair as I know nothing about them, but the name alone would make me think the Woodcraft Folk would be woker than woke.

Birdsfoottrefoil · 24/10/2019 21:22

Katie has a hole that could do with some more digging.

AncientLights · 24/10/2019 22:04

Birdsfoot could it be the word 'folk' that makes you think that? Makes me think that, too.

I had assumed it was GG but Katie A's case is hardly as they describe it. I haven't been aware of the press ramping up hatred of trans kids or however they expressed it. Having huge doubts and fears about the transing of children is not hate - but we know that.

Economical with the truth, there's a surprise.

hazeyjane · 24/10/2019 22:19

My nan was in the Woodcraft Folk in the 1930s. I have a photo album of photos of her, some in full on Native American garb (now frowned upon) some in American Frontiersman clothes, with cropped hair and mans clothes....she'd cause quite a stir today. It was a progressive thing at the time because sexes were mixed and girls were given opportunities to do traditionally 'male activities'.

KatieAlcock · 24/10/2019 22:35

Yep, it's me they refer to. I can't quite see what's changed since they brought it out in August but I'll have a look
We (LResisters) tried a bit of a push back and awareness around this at the time IIRC.
By the way if you add 25 to 10,975 you get?

Me either Confused The cycnic in me thinks they might be desperately courting publicity in the wake of the Stonewall founder split.

It still seems to have very few signatures, and interestingly is signed by no WCF groups, just a couple of high ups.

I suspect WCF may have a battle in their hands with this one. Yes, they are woker than woke, but because they have always been such a lentil weavery org I suspect they have a lot of hardcore radfems in their ranks.

Beamur · 25/10/2019 07:48

The Woodcraft Folk have been around a very long time. Rooted in communism I think? I suspect their position on this has had a lot more scrutiny since GG but WCF are mixed sex to start with.
I can remember my Grandad taking me to events!
Perhaps the new LGB group has prompted some in WCF so show a little solidarity with Stonewall.

KatieAlcock · 25/10/2019 08:18

WCF are mixed sex to start with.
Indeed they are but telling parents the sex of an individual their child is sharing a tent wIth is fairly basic.
And let's not mention the stereotypes that lead to thinking that a girl who doesn't like pink and makeup and long hair is not a girl. Because that's the whole of the Woodcraft ethos.

By the way they are part of the Cooperative movement (if you want to know ANYTHING about coops, just ask my DH).

Beamur · 25/10/2019 08:50

Don't get me wrong, I'm not an apologist for the WCF. Just reflecting there are differences in how they run to GG. I'm also not that familiar with it as an organisation although I did attend occasionally as a child and my own DD tried it out. Another difference perhaps is that Guides have Leaders (who might also be parents of the girls attending) whereas WCF is predominantly run by parents. The unit DD tried out there was an obligation for all parents to run some sessions. I don't know if this is the same everywhere.
