Who's coming to Brighton to listen to Meghan Murphy, Jo Bartosch, Brendan O'Neill and Olly Lambert discuss covering unpopular topics in the media? The meeting is sponsored by Julie Burchill and chaired by Posie Parker and there might be a huge piss up afterwards Grin

I am! Fantastic line-up and I wouldn't miss it for the world. Really looking forward to it. Play your cards right Venice and I might be in danger of buying you all drinks.

donkey86 · 29/04/2019 11:10

I live in Brighton and I’m very tempted to go. But it would create the mother of all rows with my husband. He’s swallowed the woke pills and just doesn’t get my objections.

howmanyleftfeet · 29/04/2019 11:27

I am! And really looking forward to it. Excited to hear from Megan, and really interested in what your speakers have to say.

Unfortunate timing with Brendan O'Neill using his publication to make a pathetic attack on an autistic 16 year old. Seriously, what an arse! I mean, there's publishing "unpopular topics" and then there's just being a dick to a young woman who's done more make positive change in the world at 16 than he ever is likely to. My 10 year old is massively inspired by her, for a start.

VeniceAllan · 29/04/2019 11:30

Well it's an opportunity to tell Brendan what you think about that article in the q&a!

howmanyleftfeet · 29/04/2019 12:33

VeniceAllan yes, good point!

furrytoebean · 29/04/2019 12:34

donkey
Your husband is so woke he thinks he has some say in what public meetings his wife attends and what people she listens to?

misscockerspaniel · 29/04/2019 12:34

donkey86 buy him a ticket ... sounds like he needs to be re-educated Grin

Erythronium · 29/04/2019 13:13

create the mother of all rows with my husband

Go for it.

donkey86 · 29/04/2019 13:37

Well, he doesn’t think he has a say in what I go to, no. But he’d be so sad -truly upset- and act personally affronted. He’ll alternate the silent treatment with statements like ‘I just can’t believe you’d agree with someone so bigoted’ ‘I never thought you agreed with such offensive things’ ‘you’re not the person I thought you were’.

We’ve had to agree to not talk about it.

donkey86 · 29/04/2019 13:39

But anyway, I don’t want to derail the thread. Come on down to Brighton, everyone!

DancingRaven · 29/04/2019 13:52

My husband is pro Self ID and gulps the kool aid, I'm still going and really looking forward to it

dianebrewster · 29/04/2019 14:41

Ticket bought - looking forward to seeing everyone. 😎

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 29/04/2019 14:48

I've bought my ticket. Smile

Tbh, sounds like he's the bigot; and such emotional blackmail.....
Just go! You don't need to tell him if you don't want to.

DpWm · 29/04/2019 16:42

Hello
It just says location : Brighton.
I presume the actual venue is being kept secret?

Thanks so much for sharing this. I am really interested in going. I might go. I can get to Brighton easily.

VeniceAllan · 29/04/2019 17:18

Yes @dpwn it's in the centre of Brighton

I might be doing Brighton a disservice but I imagine there might be a protester or two. Do you have sufficient security to discourage the 'shut it down' bully boys (note: not Mr Donkey86).

ginandbearit · 29/04/2019 23:23

Brighton is the wokest of wokevilles and if you know the artist called Drawings of Dogs lives there..he is the wokest of wokemen and recently posted on instagram a cartoon explaining how wrong Gender Critical feminists are ..and no debate allowed...to much praise and condemnation of t..fs...you may find more than a small protest organised about this meeting .

howmanyleftfeet · 01/05/2019 13:30

It's bit of an odd time of day - what happens about lunch, does anyone know? (I might smuggle some sandwiches in with me!)

IndianaJonesAndTheTempleOfDoom · 01/05/2019 16:38

There were protesters at the last Brighton event.

They were terrifying

I was nearly knocked unconscious by the fumes from their blue hair dye.

WinkGrin

It was fine. Some bright spark appeared on Mumsnet after the fact to tell us we were afraid of the security officer because she was "non binary". The poster assumed this person's gender based on the security officer having rainbow hair. Hmm
