Lesbian erasure - it's actually happening

A gender critical lesbian was elected to the Mayor's Baltimore LBGT Commission. She refused to accept that transwomen were lesbians and has been thrown off the committee by fellow members. This makes for shocking reading. womensliberationfront.org/baltimore-lgbtq-commission-anti-lesbian-bias/?fbclid=IwAR3QFjEnniIQuziGeRDd8LiFrDLunJhTeFaLokzpRsjaQZPNBJaQz7VAWiw
And the Uni of Brighton is about to hold a conference about Lesbian (In)visibility. But it would seem that lesbians who are not trans-inclusive are not welcome and not allowed to present papers. The organisers are commited to 'trans-inclusive feminism & womanism' and require a similar wokeness from all participants.

Desperate and dangerous stuff.

How before heterosexuality is inclusive of same-sex attraction? Hmm

Come on, lesbians, my dating preferences having been excluding you for decades with nary a complaint of lesbophobia - up your game!

(Will never happen.)

Popchyk · 10/12/2018 10:20

Lesbian lives and the politics of invisibility.

Open to all genders.

And all sexualities.

I wonder if the organisers might have a moment of clarity in which they realise that by defining lesbians as people of all genders and all sexualities that they are the ones who are actually MAKING LESBIANS INVISIBLE?

But I somehow doubt it.

littlbrowndog · 10/12/2018 10:31

Purity and hierarchy of value

What does that even mean
Why don’t they write what they actually mean - trans lesbians
Misguided feminists
Ffs
Looks like a conference to avoid for all but the woke
Gawd if I was a lesbian I would be so pissed off atthe way I was being erased
How the actual do these idiots get away with this stuff and write such shite

KenDoddsDadsDogsDead18 · 10/12/2018 10:33

Genuinely confused here, not being sarky but is it a lesbian conference that's open to everyone? It's the open to all sexualities part.

Popchyk · 10/12/2018 10:42

From the Lesbian Lives facebook page:

LL Conference 2019

"The Lesbian Lives Conference is open to all genders and any political and sexual orientations. There is an ethos of welcome and accessibility. We particularly want to extend a welcome to bi and trans communities".

AndThereSaw · 10/12/2018 10:48

So it's a conference about the erasure of lesbians which is open to everyone EXCPT the lesbians who don't want to sleep with people who believe (or say they believe) that they are women but have male bodies.
So they are erasing the lesbians from the lesbian conference about lesbian erasure?
Wow. Just wow.

Datun · 10/12/2018 10:49

The Lesbian Lives Conference is open to all genders and any political and sexual orientations. There is an ethos of welcome and accessibility. We particularly want to extend a welcome to bi and trans communities".

This goes to the heart of my fury of the trans ideology. The smug, rank, blatant misogyny that is shot through it, at every turn.

Men, determined to force women to fucking lineup and rollover.

Popchyk · 10/12/2018 10:53

From the Facebook page:

"Although visibility has increased, there are still media representations drawing predominantly on limiting stereotypes; lesbians, bisexual women and trans folks continue to be marginalised; yet visual activism and expression; from painting, photography, and documentary making to romcoms, comics, YouTube serials, and slasher fiction are at the heart of LBTQ culture".

Interesting that "lesbian" is now just a part of LBTQ. A small part by the looks of it.

And are lesbians really into slasher fiction as a rule? Or is it men who identify as lesbians who are into that?

EverardDigby · 10/12/2018 10:57

It will be interesting to see who actually turns up. Who wants to go?!

Saisong · 10/12/2018 10:58

I saw reference the other day to a TGBL acronym, interesting L and T 'demotion'/'promotion', like we can't see where this is headed.
Wish I could remember where I saw it.

littlbrowndog · 10/12/2018 10:59

So is it about and for lesbians or just anybody
Why call it lesbians lives then

KenDoddsDadsDogsDead18 · 10/12/2018 11:00

So to be clear, it is open to straight, conforming males but not gender critical feminist lesbians? I can't have this right? Can I?

Bang on ken
And they not gender critical feminists.

They are misguided feminists 😲😲

Popchyk · 10/12/2018 11:10

Raven, my mistake.

I thought slasher fiction was some sort of violent stories about dismemberment and so on.

dianebrewster · 10/12/2018 11:17

The slash bit relates to Spock/Kirk ("Spock slash Kirk) or Buffy/Cordelia etc. It's fan fic that puts two straight same sex characters into a gay / lesbian relationship. VERY popular in sci fi fandom and spread to others ... as distinct from "shipper" fan fic which pairs up opposite sex characters (relationSHIP). The writers of these two genres frequently hate each other. Hmm

Needmoresleep · 10/12/2018 11:52

So professional transwomen have more earning opportunities?

There is only so much audience for trans conferences, so your broaden your marketing if you flag some for lesbians. Plus open up funding streams for the relatively under-funded lesbian community.

ChewyLouie · 10/12/2018 19:33

As a straight woman, I hesitate before commenting on lesbian issues. But hold on a moment, what about all those ‘lovely’ trans ‘folk’ who think they can tell lesbians who they are - it’s Pythonesque in its absurdity. I can’t believe how they manage to keep a straight face while they do it. Is that why they’re usually covered up when they’re demonstrating- they’re sniggering under the face coverings? If it wasn’t actually happening, I’d think it was rather funny too.

ScottCheggJnr · 10/12/2018 19:41

And there I was thinking this could be the most interesting cover band yet...

Calmamidstthestorm · 10/12/2018 19:49

Lesbians in Attwoods world = #gendertraitors

GrinitchSpinach · 10/12/2018 22:14

Julia Beck, the Baltimore gc lesbian in the first link, has written a long, interesting piece at AfterEllen:

www.afterellen.com/general-news/568221-how-i-became-the-most-hated-lesbian-in-baltimore

Oldstyle · 11/12/2018 00:52

Thanks for putting up the link Grinitch. Appalling & vindictive bullying by men against a women who refuses to deny biology. Gay men as well as trans throwing her under a bus. Really shocking.

article by Amy Dyess October 2018:

“TERF Is Hate Speech and It’s Time to Condemn It”
(extract)
For the most part, mainstream media and so-called LGBT organizations have chosen to ignore a specific demographic of the Me Too movement. “TERF” is a slur used to sexually harass, threaten, and silence lesbians. Instead of standing up for female homosexuals, “LGBT” orgs and media are persecuting lesbians and disguising it as social justice. The gaslighting is next level, but the majority of the world is starting to wake up to this injustice. Time’s Up!

TERF was initially used as an acronym that meant Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist, but the term has always been used to muzzle women from discussing our rights. For the past year and half, TERF has been widely used as homophobic hate speech aimed at all lesbians. That’s right… ALL lesbians.

You don’t have to be a radical feminist to be labeled a TERF. A lesbian can make it clear she believes trans people deserve human rights and respect, but she’s still a “TERF” because her sexual orientation has an innate boundary. That boundary is same-sex attraction for other adult human females. Lesbians are the only sexual orientation that excludes penis, and that makes us the most dangerous adversary to the patriarchy.

Extremists don’t believe women, chiefly lesbians, deserve boundaries. That’s what this issue is all about. They disguise their misogyny and homophobia as social justice in order to gain support from people who are misinformed. So-called “progressives” are openly oppressing and condemning the homosexual community, primarily the lesbian community.

The Economist has banned the use of “TERF” in articles and comments because the slur “may have started as a descriptive term but is now used to try to silence a vast swathe of opinions on trans issues, and sometimes to incite violence against women.” Unfortunately, too many journalists and sites have decided to do the opposite. Even editors are doubling down on their misogyny and homophobia." (continues)

Lesbians have the right to a word that defines who we are. We have a right to exist and take pride in our boundaries. Our existence doesn’t invalidate trans people. Plenty of pansexual and queer folks are attracted to trans people, and that’s awesome. There’s nothing hateful about being a homosexual, yet extremists don’t want homosexuality to exist. It’s sadly a common experience for lesbians to receive rape threats, death threats, and have our livelihoods threatened just for standing up to homophobia. It’s time to stand up for us." (continues with many examples)
