Mail online criticises Manchester MORF charity for distributing binders to young teens

A detailed article with quotes from David Davies MP.

dailym.ai/2DV13Nf

Apparently binders are sent to young teenagers in plain packaging behind parents backs. The health implications sound horrific. Where is acknowledgement of parents safeguarding responsibilities?

Old news, I'm afraid. That's been going on for years, I read about it about three years ago.

They're doing it all behind parent's backs, including hormones.

Surgery might be the last thing where parents get a say ...

Terfing · 01/12/2018 23:01

That company should be called out for child abuse.

Needmoresleep · 01/12/2018 23:05

But the new news, surely, is that a large circulation Sunday newspaper is covering it, and emphasising the government funding.

The final paragraph is interesting:

“Controversial transgender charities – including Allsorts Youth Project, Mermaids and Gendered Intelligence – have received more than £1 million in public money in the last five years, The Mail on Sunday can reveal.”

It really should, yeah.

Girls are so naive, I don't think they realize that binders do real harm.

I have to admit, I wasn't aware of just how extreme the harm is, either. When I read about girls binding their breasts to pass as boys in those "girl dresses as boy to join military/become a knight" stories, I never stopped to think about how it might hurt, or harm them.

I got a bit less naive after wearing a bra that was too small for me for a couple hours.
It was extremely painful, and I figured that something that hurts can't be healthy.

Only learnt about it causing the lungs to shrink/not develop fully when researching the harm done by binders.

I'm glad to see this article, thank you for posting it Needmoresleep

Hopefully, a wider audience might prompt more questions about the amount of charity money these organisations are being given.

That's published at the same time as this article:

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6448105/British-children-buy-sex-hormone-medication-foreign-sites-no-questions-asked.html

It's good to see that both articles are calling out the ethics of children being targeted by adult activist groups .

Notevenmyrealname · 01/12/2018 23:41

On the site’s website, it says it only deals with people aged 18 or over and redirects teenagers to contact Mermaids, so what on earth are they doing sending something out to a 13 year old?

LurkingWaspi · 01/12/2018 23:46

According to the article, a man called Barry is sending binders out to a 13year old girls, and taking the name and address of a 13 year old girl and agreeing not to tell parents/guardians. Angry

What has Andy Burnham got to say about this on Twitter?

HestiaParthenos · 01/12/2018 23:57

we wouldn't be labelled transphobic for calling the police and letting them know

Sure you wouldn't?

One never knows, nowadays. Though I obviously agree it is grooming.

interestingdebatetoday · 02/12/2018 00:01

@HestiaParthenos well you would nowadays the minute you mentioned what organisation Barry was operating under

But if it wasn't a trans one, and just a youth club or something- you wouldn't and would be taken seriously

I swear PIE has infiltrated trans charities

LurkingWaspi · 02/12/2018 00:10

MORF certainly has an interesting list of first name only male committee members.

morf.org.uk/committee/

The more you turn these stones over....
Andy Burnham this is on your watch.

Datun · 02/12/2018 00:12

The daily mail seems to have grasped the issues with kids fairly comprehsively.

And yes. Barry, 'new to the company' gets to talk to minors about their breast size, and is given all their contact details.

Ugh.

IstanbulConstan · 02/12/2018 00:14

Barry was inviting 13 year old children in to the office to remove clothing and try on clothing, where will Barry be when the child is changing?

I don't tweet but am able to raise this elsewhere.

MsJolly · 02/12/2018 00:43

Is this the first time that the daily mail has actually done some good reporting?

HestiaParthenos · 02/12/2018 00:53

I fuzzily remember they might have written the truth about transactivism a couple times before, but it could have been some other paper of similar reputation.

Wanting as many readers as possible someone leads to writing the truth if the truth is scandalous enough.

BingBongSong · 02/12/2018 00:53

LurkingWaspi I wonder if the male names on the committee page are FtM transgender people?

LurkingWaspi · 02/12/2018 00:59

It is possible BingBongSong
Would that make things ok however?
There is still the issue of adults dealing with 13 year old girls, and taking very personal information from them, or inviting them into an office to try on clothing/binders.
With a "hide the page link "on the site.
It bothers me.

LurkingWaspi · 02/12/2018 01:07

Their link with Mermaids bothers me. Sparkle is the organisation more favoured in Manchester (to my knowledge).
I've tried, but I can't think of any positive reason to send a 13year old a breast binder as described in the article.

BingBongSong · 02/12/2018 01:07

Yes, it bothers me too, of course it does!

Rattinghat · 02/12/2018 01:11

Could this be prosecuted as FGM? Breasts are a reproductive organ and they are facilitating mutilation.
