Unbelievable bias on BBC news website

howwillthispanout · 17/10/2018 04:55

Just spotted (and complained) about this gem:
www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-4583802

Casual dismissal of Fair Play for Women as "anti trans" is staggering and offensive. {lease join me and fire off a complaint.

I get page not found - perhaps it was quickly zapped?

howwillthispanout · 17/10/2018 05:24

Nope still there from what I can see = apologies I may have given wrong link - will try again:

Yes, page not found here too. Well spotted, sounds as though your email worked.

littlecabbage · 17/10/2018 05:28

Cross post. Have now seen the page - awful piece of journalism. Will email.

DubaiismyBlackpool · 17/10/2018 05:32

Great piece of journalism, I think not.
Simply dismissing the argument against as 'ridiculous' is on par with the 'my dads bigger than your dad cos I say so' mentality.

lovelylimesoda · 17/10/2018 05:33

I want to complain too, this is outrageous. Do you know who to email?

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 17/10/2018 05:36

Yep still there. Sounds like it was written by someone very young with little understanding of the issue and no editorial input. Don't think even the pink news would publish it

howwillthispanout · 17/10/2018 05:42

Don't think even the pink news would publish it

My that's saying something - bar has been set even lower than Pink News!

Apologies again for initial bad link - here's the complaints page if you wish to say something

Have submitted complaint.

Cwenthryth · 17/10/2018 06:06

Oh come on Jemima, let’s not underestimate PN Smile

Got it now. That is pretty shocking. Have submitted a complaint.

  • describing FPFW as ‘anti-trans’ (inaccurate, bias, libel)
  • dismissing FPFW concerns as ridiculous
  • having FPFW described as “they have misunderstood and misrepresented us as this very backward movement of people who want to erase women and homosexuality” by the person who has dismissed FPFW’s concerns and not actually asked FPFW to represent themselves or their concerns at all.

Complaint form is here btw ssl.bbc.co.uk/complaints/forms/?lang=en&reset=&uid=286440527 I feel depressingly familiar with it after the last week or so.

Ring them up as well.

Bowednotbroken · 17/10/2018 06:11

I've submitted a complaint too. Saying I'm not surprised their bias is showing but that it is outrageous.

ThisMadnessMustStop · 17/10/2018 06:15

Outrageous. If this is newsbeat, this is aimed at the Radio 1 audience. I will also complain. To call that organization transphobic is defamatory. To say nothing of the negligent journalism.

Uterusowner · 17/10/2018 06:55

Looks like he's a senior journalist for Shazam which is an app I've now removed from my phone!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 17/10/2018 07:04

So when it comes to Jenni Murray the BBC spouts about balance, then they have the cheek to publish this.

Utterly naked bias. They are not fit for purpose.

ZuttZeVootEeVro · 17/10/2018 07:13

I'll just quote thebewilderness from a past thread I think that we should take transgender advocates at their word that they view anyone, person or organization, that advocates for women's rights or Feminist principles as anti-trans.

Herja · 17/10/2018 07:18

Complained. I think complaining about things will have to be my new and only hobby.

howwillthispanout · 17/10/2018 07:32

They obviously see no problem as the piece has now been posted on the BBC Newsbeat twitter site.

OP posts:
Cwenthryth · 17/10/2018 07:32

ZutZe there’s a big difference between taking someone at their word about their views, and just stating that view as an unchallenged fact in a news article published on the website of our national broadcaster, who is statutorily bound to avoid bias.

AndhowcouldIeverrefuse · 17/10/2018 07:35

I just read this with my jaw on the floor. It is possibly the most openly biased piece I have ever read on the BBC - and I am an obsessive news consumer.

There is so much wrong with this article. Where do you even start? I think the bits that got me the most were:

The FPFW ad is pictured so that you cannot read it, as a screenshot in a critical tweet

The person saying that having a GRC would mean the world to them but won't go through the process

The young person pictured looking all cute and vulnerable with a sign saying "I am who I say I am"

Actually maybe here is something there. Maybe I could identify as British so I don't have to go through the grueling, dehumanising, intrusive process of obtaining a British passport? After all what do these civil servants know about how I feel inside? Do you think this will fly with the Home Office?

Seriously now - I have complained to the BBC before and from their replies I know them to be institutionally biased. They have nothing but utter contempt for GC women and will not accept any points made however civilised and logical. Has anyone ever had a reply from the BBC along the lines of "oops sorry yes we were biased"?

PaleBlueMoonlight · 17/10/2018 07:38

Done, before I even found this thread. I genuinely cannot believe what I just read, just three days before the consultation closes.

Cwenthryth · 17/10/2018 07:39

In my complaint I made the point that they have represented FPFW’s views by quoting someone who dismisses their concerns - they should have asked FPFW to represent their own views.

MrsOrMiss · 17/10/2018 07:46

I've complained too, but experience with BBC complaints in the past shows me they don't give a toss.
It'll be my fault I'm upset because;
a, I'm too old for Newsbeat, it's for 'yooth'. b, I shouldn't be on that particular site.
c, I'm a woman therefore a bigot.

Alternativefacts · 17/10/2018 07:49

Complained.
