Unbelievable bias on BBC news website

Just spotted (and complained) about this gem:
www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-4583802

Casual dismissal of Fair Play for Women as "anti trans" is staggering and offensive. {lease join me and fire off a complaint.

OP posts:

Not anti trans? Just out on the streets approaching gangs to spread fear about trans people. They know exactly what they're up to with this one.

AngryAttackKittens · 17/10/2018 10:46

Narcissism is a hell of a drug.

Cwenthryth · 17/10/2018 10:51

That’s right Lizzy, that’s not anti-trans. It’s raising awareness of the threat that self-ID proposals pose to women’s & girl’s rights.

LangCleg · 17/10/2018 11:03

They know exactly what they're up to with this one.

Yes, yes they do. So do you. So do we.

They are prioritising women and girls. How dangerous! How bigoted! How dreadful! How could they?

Careful: your misogyny slip is showing. One woman's prioritising women is anti-trans, is it? Well, one transactivist's prioritising trans is misogyny. Sauces. Geese. Ganders. All that.

howard97A · 17/10/2018 11:37

The BBC transactivist campaign rolls on ...

Turph · 17/10/2018 11:41

Just out on the streets approaching gangs
Bloods? Crips? MS13? Hell's Angels?
Or just a group of boys on bicycles? To ask them what they think and hand out leaflets? Hmmmm

AngryAttackKittens · 17/10/2018 11:45

When I see "gangs of lads on their bikes" I'm thinking more "doing wheelies to impress each other" and less "hardened criminals with a taste for blood".

I think Lizzie watches too many American films.

rightreckoner · 17/10/2018 11:52

And careful Lizzie - you wouldn’t want to be implying that the residents of Moss Side are too thick to be involved in political debate and too prone to violence to be trusted with an honest discussion.

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 17/10/2018 12:41

Have you seen the latest version of the BBC article? It has been changed LOADS and is now much more balanced! I also rather liked that (at least on PC) the corner of the FPFW ad in the Twitter screenshot is very clearly readable, including the "Say NO to Self ID - say YES to common sense" and the link to the FPFW site Grin It even mentions Karen White (not by name, but with a link)!

www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-45838021

AND the article now has a link to this unusually good BBC article from back in 2017, which includes quotes from 2 Mumsnetters, Sarah Ditum and Stephanie Davies-Arai!

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-40713645

Well done everyone who complained, it certainly seems to have made an impact!

GrouchyKiwi · 17/10/2018 12:49

It is indeed MUCH better. I see they took out the bit about misrepresenting the trans viewpoint.

RiverTam · 17/10/2018 13:00

well, it's better-ish, in the right at the end they've mentioned Karen White whilst getting the details wrong (only mentioning 2 of his victims and saying he's jailed for 9 years not life)m and they've taken out the anti-trans bit. Still pretty unbalanced, though, IMO.

But it seems that we were heard! So that is good.

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 17/10/2018 13:14

Gosh, that's the improved version! Shock I've just complained about it. Can't even begin to imagine how bad it must have been before.

ThisMadnessMustStop · 17/10/2018 13:21

It’s not perfect but I’m amazed they changed it at all. Someone might be listening. Just keep swimming, everyone!!!

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 17/10/2018 13:37

Well done everyone who put in a complaint. Hmm that it has to come to this just to get a balanced article from a media institution that should know better.

RiverTam · 17/10/2018 13:50

if anyone hasn't done so I think we should still keep complaining, I still think it's a very bad piece. I don't think I can complain about the same thing twice in one day (in that their online system won't allow it) but we can see that complaints have an impact to please keep them coming in. If they get them about the new report they'll know that it's still not goof enough, otherwise the'll be smugly patting themselves on the back.

thatdamnwoman · 17/10/2018 14:16

I complained that they quote a transman saying they just want the human rights everyone else had — which of course they already have. I wanted to know who was fact-checking and editing the content because they weren't doing a good job.

I used to defend the BBC come hell or high water but no longer. They have played a really important role in spreading trans propaganda.

Cwenthryth · 17/10/2018 14:17

Good idea to take the screenshot. There’s a disingenuous poster on Twitter who ‘can’t seem to see it :(‘..... came up twice on my feed in a matter of minutes - they’d posted the same message on 3 different threads, turns out the author is their boyfriend.

AbsintheFriends · 17/10/2018 14:31

Complained. And asked for an article featuring the alternative perspective to be put up before Friday.

Isn't it weird how none of us has the faintest expectation of that actually happening? Such is the blatant, in plain sight bias of the BBC now.

DarkDarkNight · 17/10/2018 14:50

Complained, I don’t think I’ve ever read a more ridiculously biased article.

Charliethefeminist · 17/10/2018 15:46

Has it been taken down?

GrouchyKiwi · 17/10/2018 15:51

It's still up and I think they've changed it again so it's less balanced. Confused

Charliethefeminist · 17/10/2018 16:01
