The Guardian is back singing their usual tune on this issue... This article was published yesterday.

The comments are an absolute mess, around 75% have been deleted!

Just another way of shutting down discussion. It's becoming so predictable.

The comments are good. People bringing some critical thinking to the article.

The deletions have to be those who are questioning the ideology.

pisacake · 13/10/2017 12:44

No the comments are shit because most of them get deleted. A comment got deleted for referencing FGM

Ttbb · 13/10/2017 12:50

If you want to express a dissedebt view the guardian website is not the place to do it.

I haven't seen the comments before they got deleted. But if past form is anything to go by, these are much more questioning that has been previously allowed. In fact, for a while, didn't even just disable comments altogether?

I completely agree that they should not delete any comments, unless they are abusive.

A particularly dimwitted article, using the usual dodgy statistics.

TitaniasCloset · 13/10/2017 14:53

I have given up on the Guardian, the deletion of messages is just not acceptable.

Elendon · 13/10/2017 15:31

Something tells me that the person who wrote the article, a trans activist, is also the person who is moderating the comments. It's a hunch, so I may be wrong.

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

Butterymuffin · 13/10/2017 15:39

It won't be the same person moderating, it'll be an existing user of the moderation system, for technical reasons if no others. But they are very down on anything that questions the extreme trans activist viewpoint. (I'm putting it like that because I don't want to tar trans people or even all trans activists with this particular brush.) Plus the article is incoherent.

Ereshkigal · 13/10/2017 19:22

That is an imaginary threat concocted to create a moral panic in an age in which homophobia is no longer acceptable in polite society.

Oh but it is. It just comes from "progressives" advocating that lesbian women should have sex with men.

Yes. And quite disingenuous, given the physical damage puberty blockers can do to children, and the fact that young girls in their early teens sometimes have mastectomies in the US as part of their treatment which is a type of "gender reassignment surgery". And yes, Susie Green "had to" take her kid abroad. As if it's a bad thing that surgery wasn't allowed at 16 in the UK.
