Three stone good, four stone better.

Hi. Is my timing right for anyone else being ready to start losing weight? For me, the title says it all.

This time I am armed with a fitbit (which I am learning to operate), have paid membership for the local pool, have DH on side, have the Lent excuse ready at work and would love some vipers with which to go through this process.

Is there anyone ready to go, so we can comfort and cajole each other?

I have been failing for the last two months to lose anything or keep up any motivation so may not be the best person to join you but I really do want to lose 2 stone 3 would be better .

My aim is to get to the gym 3 times a week and to stop snacking on shite !

I've also been rather half hearted since the New Year; I know I need to throw myself into it properly, hence all the tools, including this thread.

Howlong, do you have fixed days for the gym? My fitbit shocked me yesterday by cruelly informing me of how many calories were in my "healthy snacks" (let alone my wine).

I try and go every other day which works but this last week has been a stressful one so instead of doing the sensible (and much more productive) thing and getting on the treadmill I buried my head in bread and cheese and beer which didn't really help ! Was lovely though Wink

I did have a fitbit one which I loved but I managed to put it through the washing machine ....... Muppet.......

I came on this morning to post this exact message, I was even going to use the thread title!

Today I start to low carb again, with more calorie control in it too. I tend to use it as a bit of an excuse to eat bigger portions and then slip into the wrong sorts of food.

I'm going to do the 40 days of exercise lent challenge (slightly late starting but can carry on past easter).

No alcohol

My plan for this week is

30 day shred today, Mon, Tues, Thurs, Friday. Jump combat on Wednesday (I've just bought a pass to do trampolining exercise classes).

Walk instead of taking the bus for anything under 2 miles

3 litres of water a day, more green and herbal tea.

Ive just weighed myself at 14 stone 3lb. My measurements are

Waist 42 inches
Hips 44 inches
Back 36 inches

If you PM me with your fitbit name I'll add you as a friend and we could do some challenges if you fancy it.

Howlong, umm bread and cheese - not helping...

I can swim each day at the weekend and at least twice during the week, anymore will depend on work levels, which have recently gone bananas.

I am not sure how to get the most from my swimming, what is a good distance or a good amount of time to aim for?

Poor fitbit, I have the one you can swim in, but not sure it would like a washing machine.

Onestep, nice to be aiming for the same goal. Now I am jealous of your head start. Congratulations on your loss so far.

Do we want any rules, like 'fessing up loss or gain on a set day, or just update when you have something positive or negative to share?

Can I join? Please!

I'm still waiting for that 'switch' that every successful slimmer talks of. It's not happened for me yet. I used to be able to last 5 days. Now it's 5 hours of being good Confused

I am going to weigh in every Monday and I will post whatever the result. I need to be accountable and I welcome any kicks up the arse that are going.
I have also signed up for a 5k in May in a moment of madness so I need to get on with it or I am going to look a fool .

I'd like to join in, I could do with losing nearly 5 stone. I find it so hard to know how to diet. I lost 3 stone on SW a few years ago but had an accident, couldn't exercise and used it as an excuse to eat crap again.

I've been reading up on 5:2, clean eating etc but none of it feels compatible with living in a family, eating as a family etc. I know the issue is me, I could make it work but I feel overwhelmed by it all.

I want to do it for ds, I don't feel healthy any more and I'm scared of not being able to be the parent he deserves. I'm 42 now and he's 4, if I don't get a grip on this he'll suffer. I don't even have ambitions to be slim, just average. A size 12/14 would be amazing instead of the 18/20 I've been since I had him.

I think a weekly weigh in would be good and exercise and food updates in between?

Hi can I join please? I need to lose just over 3 stone to get back into the healthy BMI range, but 4 stone would be better.

My weight was stuck at 13st 1 for months, then a couple of weeks ago I had a rotten bug and went down to 12st 7. I wanted to use that to kick start my diet but have instead just been eating crap and I've regained 4lb of it already! I'm only 5ft 1 so definitely obese at the moment and just feel rotten and bloated.

My plan, starting today, is a low calorie diet. I have a big box of exante stuff gathering dust so I've just had their porridge for breakfast. I'm planning their noodles for lunch and a carton of soup for dinner. No snacks, and drinking lots of water and sugar free squash. No more fizzy! I'm a big comfort eater so this is going to be tough. Will weigh myself once a week.

English, we eat low carb (ignoring the sweets, crisps and cake I've started having when out) and it works well for us as a family.

DD (6) hadn't noticed at all as we still do give her some bits. She'll have a sandwich when out and we'll have a salad for example. She loves weekend breakfast of either sausages and egg or pancakes. Main meals dh and I will have binless burgers with salad and she'll have some sweet potato fries with hers. It's making me think about what I feed her more and she's having a lot more fruit and veg as a result, getting most of her carbs from them as it should be.

Ooh I'd like to join you please, I need to loose two stone but three would be better. I'm trying to clean eat and step up my exercise. Have cut out sugar which has been an eye-opener!

I am so pleased there are so many of us to support each other. Together we can do this.

Once I have mastered the fitbit, I will PM, I just need a chance to get to grips with it first. Thank-you glenb. What is the back measurement you mention? So much of your post resonates with me.

Msq, I so relate.

Welcome Spellingtest and Englishgirl, I think everyone has to find their own way of eating which works for them and their family life. Personally I too am low carbing as this has worked for me in the past, but now I am watching my portion control as well as I am clearly a too much of a lover of all things cheesy and creamy.

glen I like the theory of low carb but really struggled when I tried it. Me & Ds aren't big meat eaters so I found it hard to work out meals we'd all like. Dp not so much of a problem, he wouldn't want to low carb (is slim and fit) but would happily have pasta/rice/potatoes on the side of what I'd cook. I think with LC breakfast is my biggest challenge - what would you have? I don't like bacon, eggs etc for breakfast - usually have porridge and fruit.

Hi Stitch and Just.

I'm off for my swim now and then will make brunch for my lot. I am hoping that this will mean just two meals today.

Am I allowed to join? I've already lost a stone in 10 weeks (well actually, I lost a stone in 6 weeks, then fell off the wagon, put 2lb on and have only maintained since). I've got another 1st 3lb to go.

This week is me getting back on it.

English - would yoghurt, nuts and berries work for you for breakfast? You can have that on low carb.

I do a bit of a mish mash of low carb, calorie counting and the odd slimming world recipe.

I was doing Davina 15 minute fit every day in my 6 weeks, but haven't done it since. I plan to today, but I've planned to on lots of days in the last 4 weeks Wink

What happened was that DH and I had a child free weekend away where I said all bets were off. Had wine and 3 courses both nights. And have just struggled to get back on it properly since.

But today is the day!

People have started to notice I've lost too which is nice

I lost lots, quickly on low carb before children. I just don't seem to have the will power anymore. The DH is a veggie, the kids need carbs/energy- it's effectively 3 meals AND I work such long hours, I'm staaaaaarving and grab what's easy. Usually carb loaded. I know, full of excuses. Hmm

EnglishGirlApproximately · 05/03/2017 10:17

spelling you sound like me!
stand that would work brilliantly in summer but on a rainy day like today doesn't do much for me tbh (I know excuses!)

How does low carb work if you don't want to eat much meat?

Report
glenthebattleostrich · 05/03/2017 11:07

I have either full fat Greek yogurt with berries and chia seeds or scrambled eggs with mushrooms. I also do a low carb pancake made with coconut flour which I prepare in batches so I can grab one and go or have with yogurt and berries. Sometimes just left overs from the night before.

We are big meat eaters bit love fish and veggies. DD gets plenty of carbs, they are the healthy ones though.

I really don't know about low carb, whenever I look at it it's all yoghurts, berries & meat! I like a lot of variety so I know I'd end up feeling restricted and not stick to it. I think that's why SW worked for me, o could have a wide variety.

Might relook at SW, or just calorie count.

Will post you a link to a diet book I bought recently English. Its a 14 day plan which I've started today and I think the recipes are really good. There are two options to choose from for each meal every day so if you didn't want the meat option you could go for the other one. It claims you can lose 10lb in two weeks. As an example, today I've had yoghurt, berries and nuts for breakfast, cheese and nuts for snack, will have chicken and crudite with creme fraiche and spring onion dip for lunch and goats cheese fritatta and green salad for dinner.

If you don't like eggs you've pretty much had it for this diet though.

Spelling - my plan is to make the kids and DH what I'm having, but add a carb for them.
