Help me MN, I have 4 stone to lose and 10k debt to pay off!

Hello,

I've mentioned this on a couple of other threads but I hope you don't mind if I start my own thread as I have 2 really important goals this year and want to tackle them both, together.

This morning, I am 14 stone exactly. I'm 5'1' and have never even had kids! (I'm 33). I gave up booze 2 years ago so now time to tackle the cake/takeaway habit. If I lose 2lbs a month, I can be 10 stone in time for (hopefully!) going to Wimbledon this year.

I have taken some "before" shots of myself nekkid in the mirror and entered my weight on fitbit. And am stocking up on healthy food (low GI type idea). I also have a wee stepper machine in the living room so I need to get on that.

RE the debt - long story short this was due to slight overspending mounting up and then being out of work for a while. It's partly overdraft, rest credit card. I should be able to pay this off if I just stop filling my trolley with things I don't need, esp in Tesco. And if I stop buying clothes/random crap. So Lidl it is, going forward! I probably won't clear the lot but if I could get it under 5k that would be great.

So here we go any followers and support is much appreciated.

I wish you luck in whatever goals you have for yourself!

I look forward to Boxing Day 2017 when I should be slim, healthy and financially sound.

WE CAN DO THIS!

Two excellent goals! Good luck and enjoy your new life Xmas Smile

Try joining MyFitnessPal. I've lost two+ stone (still have three to go, that's my this year goal!).

I'll join you. I'm in about the same position. I really want to be debt free before in the next couple of years. I was fine until work decided to half my hours which screwed everything up.

Have you got your goal muddled? (Or have I?) 4 stone to lose in 6 months at 2lb a month?

annabanana23 · 26/12/2016 12:55

Good luck!!

Money - i have about £4k im paying off. I have a spread sheet with a list of what i owe on the top and to whom. Then on the side each month listed. Each column has a £ of what i pay/can afford. Then in the bottom the debt at the end of the 12 months. That way you will see it reducing. I also list all DD's that leave the bank.

Oh plus i collect £2 coins, 20p, 5/2/1 too. I have a steradentbtupe with 20ps and it will hold about £11. Plus a sealed tin for bits and pieces with the £2. Plus any money i get at Christmas or selling some clothes on Facebook.

I think you meant 2pounds a week not a month, not an expert on weight loss but every time you don't buy a cake or a latte or a takeaway put the money in a jar, obviously some will have to go on just not spending more than you earn

Try a draw up a spreadsheet first list all forms of income, then unavoidable fixed monthly bills, mortgage or rent council tax water rates and yearly things like car tax TV licence etc, next list bills that are adjustable like heating insurance phone bills, work out how much is left this is what you have to spend on essentials like food commuting costs also minimum debt repayment now the remainder needs to be divided between debts and the occasional fun stuff eating out new clothes holidays presents.

With debt repayments first pay the minimum on all and then concentrate on paying off the debt with highest interest first so if you have £300 for debt repayment and minimum amounts come to £150, the remaining £150 goes entirely to the debt with highest interest regardless of whether this is the largest or smallest debt once that one is repaid start on next highest interest.

If you can get it all swapped to a zero I treat credit card do so but don't buy on that card as they will use monthly payments to pay off new purchases rather than old debt, new purchases may not be at zero interest

I need help with debt! Shamelessly marking place here to check for suggestions. Wouldn't mind losing a bit of weight too, tbh. Grin

You can do it. I've got debt to pay and weight to lose too - I've decided I want to be at least halfway to solving both by my birthday.

Whoopsy, yes, I meant 2lbs a week as a goal weight loss.

Yes, I have set up a spreadsheet for my budget/debt, thank you. MSE site is helpful.

It's not that I don't know how to do it, it's just those moments of weakness when I see something I want - be it jewellery or cakes!

But I'd rather be rich and slim! Grin

Welcome aboard and thank you for the support and advice. I think several of us have a long journey ahead but today is our first step!

Hello, can I join in? I have a lot more weight to lose than you but am planning on this time next year looking a shitload different for me.

ChickenVindaloo2 · 26/12/2016 13:12

Go for it, Tali. Do you have a goal in mind for the year?

I have also taken measurements of my waist, hip and thighs as I think the more way I can track progress, the better.

I will join you! I also have 4 stone to lose and have around £4000 debt I would like to clear within 3 years (can't afford to clear it any faster this will be around £100 per month towards debt) I usually lose around 10lbs the first month then average 7lbs a month thereafter, so would like to have lost my 4 stone by my birthday in September

I'm in. Also have about four stone to loose and around 10k of debt to pay off so we can save like crazy and apply for visas to move abroad. I started this year with paying debt off and managed to pay off a car loan and a store card in the last couple of months. Fingers crossed we can keep going at the same rate - I'm planning on ebaying a load of crap over the next couple of weeks and paying it straight off the very account which is appalling

I'm in too. Also have to pay off 5k debt and have 6st to lose.

I haven't stuck at anything I've put in place in the past but 2017 will be the year I get it all under control.

Try to get in the habit of healthier snacks. I am constantly grazing so now cut up a carrot and an apple every morning and munch on those instead of biscuits. Try to go for walks with friends instead of shopping. Good luck!

Also, if you do buy clothes or jewelery, leave tags on then take them back. I bet you don't use/wear half the stuff you buy

Good luck everyone.

I would like to loose 2 stone before the summer. I would also like to stop buying stuff we don't need, I don't have debts but I would like to save for a nice summer holiday; and I would like to look nice and slim when we're there.
