Diet Chef - any good?(13 Posts)
Yes I used it after DC was born. I hacked it for about 2 months but then switched to using my fitness pal and just calorie counting.
Food is all nice, and a huge range. I was worried it would be disgusting but it actually wasn't. I gave up because I just missed real food. Sandwiches, cereal, steak....
Potential problems. What will your DC/DP eat? If you still have to cook for them you're so much more likely to cave. My dp did diet chef at the same time so we were food buddies and baby was so little he wasn't weaning yet just on milk.
I lost lots of weight. I had about 3 stone to lose and lost 2 stone of it. a steady 1-2lb a week I was thrilled.
Something to bear in mind, is remember you're allowed extras. So a banana mid morning, some potatos or brocolli on the side at dinner etc is fine. If you don't add in your extras you'll be staaaaarving so dont forget them.
A comprehensive booklet comes with the food delivery
I do need to cook for others but am thinking if I ate my diet chef first so that I am not hungry whilst preparing their food then I should be able to withstand any urges to help myself...
Am tempted by Diet Chef because frankly it involves no real effort or thought on my part (counting calories or points or thinking good food versus bad food is I find the most irritating part of dieting). Its good to hear that the food is of a reasonable standard. Thanks ladies
And the extras of stuff like fresh fruit sounds great because I am tall and energetic so need more maintenance calories than many women so 1200 per day sounds waaaaay low
Sorry, it should have been thanks Heidihole not ladies
I took the 1500 a day option. 1200 was waaay to low for my height and weight. That gives you an extra 2 snacks or something I think. Ie some Diet Chef Popcorn, or a Diet Chef cookie (which aren't all that bad!) you pick what you want when you order. You can start with just 4 weeks worth and see what you think. They do renew automatically though so if you want to cancel you have to tell them ;)
I'd say go for it. DH and I liked it, as I say I only quit as i missed real food but I gave it a really good go. My sister is now on it at my recommendation.
I did it for 3 months then lost nothing else and couldn't face any more of the food. Some of it is lovely. Some of it is bloody awful.
I haven't got loads to loose so I think a couple of months would hopefully do for me
I have just signed up for a 12 week supply of this but to be honest I am finding some of the food awful. The breakfasts, soups and snacks are ok but the dinners leave an awful aftertaste. I'm beginning to think I have made a big mistake.
I tried it about four years ago but didnt like the food. It just seemed a little synthetic and gloopy. i think it may have contained msg. I did it for a month and was relieved to stop.
Did it for 2 months. lost over a stone. was really helpful for me with my work shifts as I could just grab a pack and didnt have to think about it. have now switched to MFP and thats really helping.
Diet chef gave me training on portion control and MFP is keeping me focused on not overeating, plus I find it really easy to use.
Diet chef food wasnt too bad, but you can buy large bags of the linzis granola for a lot less, use normal soups and then just be sensible with your evening meal. I replace the cardboard biscuits with a low ish calorie snack ( I love salt and vinegar chipsticks, caramel snacka jacks or a crunchie bar) so I dont feel I am junk deprived.
I undertand how tempting something like Diet Chef can be: lose weight, someone else does all the hard work. WELL IT"S ALL BULLCRAP!!!! I implore anyone out there to not let their desperation take the better of them and join DietChef. Now as a foodie, I can tell you the food is less than satisfactory. It's practically overrated microwave meals. I made the grave mistake of applying for the 12 week plan. Of course as any sane person (who isn't completely absolved in the hope that they will one day find they've lost a pathetic amount of weight through this extremely costly venture), would tell you that after you realise how useless the first month was and how bad the food was, you should cancel. So I came to cancel after only one month and I was told that I'd have to pay a ridiculous £155 to cancel. This was because they had already taken out next month's payment without my knowledge. When I spoke to the lady and expalined to her my situation, she didn't really seem to care and just kept saying I had to pay- barely heard me out! They claim it's all in their terms and conditions - I guess that's why you read the fine print. Just to add to the injury, they made me pay for the return and the box itself is extremely heavy. COSTLY RETURN + CANCELLATION FOR A PRODUCT THAT WAS TERRIBLE AND DIDN'T DO WHAT IT CLAIMED IT DID. So why all the happy reviews; I can only imagine people just feel good that they are actually doing a diet for the first time, but if they simply wake up and smell the coffee they'll realise that they haven't lost that much weight, and if they have, it is more than likely it is due to exercise and not the pathetic badly tasting microwave meals they send you. Also, make sure you have a lot of storage space because they send you the whole month supply at once. Terrible. I don't even write reviews online or anywhere but I felt a moral obligation to let everyone know what this company is up to.
