Snow watch!

I know it will seem quite crackers to start this when the weekend has been so lovely, but we are starting to get some model consistency on GFS for the potential for snow Friday night into Saturday as a northerly plunge looks set to take place.

Primary risk areas are obviously for hillier parts of Scotland and also Wales, but higher ground in the south and south east including over dartmoor and down the east coast may also see some sleet or wet snow.

Not Much of a chance for London?

Summer feels asthough it has gone on forever.

No, not much chance I'd say, but it is only October.

I follow an account on Twitter, TheSnowDreamer, who has said the same thing, interesting.

This makes me very happy!

We were sitting outside eating pizza for over an hour on Saturday, and DF BBQ'd on Sat night, DD was running around in shorts and tshirt on Sat and Sun all day....fantastic for the 2nd half of October.

DB was telling us about the 2 worst commutes ever (in almost 10 years living there) in Calgary having both been this month (OYBBK and Gloria had pointed to that storm on the autumn/winter '18 thread!) and all the roadtrain of 30 snowploughs coming from Edmonton to deal with it.

And then DH and I were watching the Countryfile forecast for the week....we changed the duvet to the heavier 9 tog one last night (due to have gone down to 1-5 degrees last night).

Apparently there has been snow in Rome yesterday...

Oh no, it can't be that time already!
I spend the entire winter panicking about the weather.
Any long term predictions for winter yet?

If we get snow here I will have to walk dd to school and pick her up on foot - all traffic stops.

taximum it wasn't snow in Rome as far as I'm aware, it was the most ridiculously bonkers hailstorm I think I've ever seen on the internet. Literally feet deep of lying hail.

knitted Gloria has started a thread about autumn/winter. At the moment the met office only go up to December as a 3 month contingency forecast. It is so far going a bit awol as the forecast which includes October said it was more likely than usual to be a warmer, wetter, wilder 3 months than average. So far, warmer yes....

Biddypop

Yes we've had an interesting autumn in Calgary Grin

But for the last week it's been glorious... it was 21 degrees on Saturday. September was freezing with a foot of snow. It's all the wrong way round. But we sure are enjoying this while it lasts.

Just the 1swan - I’m so jealous of you living there! (Am jealous of db also in fairness). I’d love proper winter weather, the ability to ski frequently, and the mountains for summer walking and proper camping!

BiddyPop - it is a pretty awesome place to live. As long as you like snow. And sunshine.

Not sure how i'd feel about winter if I didn't ski. But that was one of the reasons we moved here Grin
